Kulyok Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Hi, all! Glad to see G3 is still going. Thank you very much to all the modders and admins for keeping this great place running! So, DA4 is out, it's interesting, it's enjoyable, it's worth playing. I liked the story, liked most of the characters, and the quests (both story, companion and location quests) were good. I didn't feel this way right away: there's a very railroaded beginning, and it's difficult to adjust to controls, multi-layered maps, combat and the game's interface In the end, I went with the lowest difficulty, and when it didn't help, I made my Rook immortal. Some things I didn't like. DA3's epilogue says Solas cares very much about his people and that elves started following him, yet I didn't see anything about that in DA4. Also, there's not much room for roleplaying: the protagonist is a 100% hero, no room to be evil. I saw very little of Tevinter, too (only the prologue and the docks district, and that looks like the slums). Some dialogue (just a few conversations) was not to my taste. Some of the puzzles required googling. The secret ending wasn't achievable for me, because I blinked and missed one thing. But these were minor things. I can't say I disliked anything major. Actually, I had fun nearly all the time. If you have time, try it out. I'm writing this because I saw some bad reviews, and I decided to post a good one here. I enjoyed it. Quote
Isewein Posted November 10 Posted November 10 (edited) It's so good to see a sign of life from you, Kulyok! I'm currently enjoying a replay of your IWD NPCs and looking forward to the Xan mod for my upcoming BGT run, not to mention Reunion, Brynnlaw and all your other brilliant work. Your mods remain my favourite set overall, to this day. These games would be truly diminished without your charming characterisation, beautiful writing and Russian sense of melancholy. Honestly, I was very put off by the reviews and by how little they seem to have made of the intriguing setup of the Trespasser DLC, so I was going to give this game a wide berth. That you give it your endorsement despite similar sensibilities means a lot, though, and might just have changed my mind. Still, BG comes first, and I'm not sure it'd run on my old potato anyway... Take care & do keep dropping by! Edited November 10 by Isewein Quote

DavidW Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Nice to see you, Kulyok! My wife and I are just playing DA4 now - enjoying it so far, despite a steep learning curve if you're used to more tactical-style games. Quote
Abdal Posted Saturday at 01:45 PM Posted Saturday at 01:45 PM Dunno, there seems to be little player (Rook) agency to the point it feels we are playing as an extra to the companions who found themselves a convenient servant. Rook just feels like a simp and even when he tries to act sarcastic it does not work as well as it did with Hawke. It kinda looked like they wanted to turn this into ME2 but it didn't work out IMO. The graphics are good and I do not mind the change in gameplay. The romance...it does not feel like there is any real chemistry this time. With Leliana and Morrigan they could get jealous, mean and catty with the player having options to be either a good boyfriend or a very bad one. Both girls were also more interesting than either of the Veiguard cast. As for the guys Allistair and the secret character were also better and more interesting than Veilguard guys. Seriously we should at least be able to play as them instead of simp Rook akin to how we could play as origin companions in BG3. I also like when we can kick or not join characters than annoy me or whom I find boring. Even in ME2 we did not have to recruit everyone. Plus the best ending being only available when we were fixing all of their problems... If at least we got some MUCH better loot for all that help. That is how I see it IMO. Quote
