Guest Gibson Posted November 25 Posted November 25 From https://github.com/Gibberlings3/SwordCoastStratagems/blob/447cfc8424646946085fb359a7f0147f397d2758/stratagems/gameplay/inns.tpa#L47 : m.ab_fx.add{s_opcode=44 s_target=2 s_duration=2400*number s_parameter1=1} All of the ability score (str, dex, con) effects (dw#ress3.spl, dw#resc2.spl, etc) have a duration of 2400, regardless of room quality. The multiplication by `number` doesn't appear to be occurring. Perhaps `number` needs to be surrounded with %s in this context to be evaluated correctly? Quote
Guest Gibson Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I might also suggest increasing the 8 hour (2400 duration) buffs to 12 hours (3600 duration). I have found 8 hours too short to provide any benefit. The lowest travel time out of an area with an inn is 8 hours, so the 8 hour buff is gone by the time you are able to reach any map that has combat to make use of the effects with an 8 hour duration. Four hours from Beregost to High Hedge. Plus all the adventure zones that don't require any travel time at all - the Candlekeep catacombs, the wild parts of the Beregost temple map, the hobgoblins at the Friendly Arm, the Nashkel carnival, everything in and under Baldur's Gate city, various quest encounters in the smaller cities, everything in and under Athkatla, Brynnlaw and Spellhold, the Underdark, Saradush and the area immediately outside it, Amkethran ... A considerable fraction of the game takes place close enough to an inn for these bonuses to matter if you make the effort. Especially the main quests of each chapter. Quote
Isewein Posted November 25 Posted November 25 In terms of pure realism, I agree though. A resting period is eight hours and should cover the rest of the day thereafter. I'd rather the boni be lowered a bit overall but last longer. Quote

Those are Baldur's Gate's regions. IWD is a different game, and it takes place around Kuldahar. Thus far, every region is 8 hours travel from Kuldahar. Quote
Palanthis Posted Monday at 09:15 PM Posted Monday at 09:15 PM On a side note of this, i also feel like the number of provisions should be reduced overall. Even in Hardcore difficulty, you never really feel like you will be short of provisions for each trip in the wild or in dungeons. Then again, i've always played these games with some roleplay and realism in mind, and never abused the resting mechanics in the first place. And this is for BG1EE also. Maybe these two components (new inns and provisions gameplay) should be tailored for each game of the saga, in the future. Quote

But most likely, the system was designed with the BG series in mind, and most of the plot there takes place in and around cities. Which have inns. IWD probably deserves a fresh design pass regarding this concept - what makes sense in regard to the campaign's theming? Quote
