roshan Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Hi, I am thinking of doing an install with some amount of quest mods added to Baldur's Gate 2. I am looking for mods that fit the game tonally AND also don't unbalance the game with overpowered items. For example, in DND 2nd Ed, beholders, skeletons, etc are enemies and are evil. So I don't want to add mods that would make these creatures fun and misunderstood creatures to chill out with at a bar. BG2 is supposed to be a violent, twisted mid-high level DND campaign, so anything that adds to this is something I'd want to try. I'm interested in mods that expand Athkatla, add more quests to the areas, new locations to explore, new tactical encounters, or expand the plot of the Bhaalspawn. But nothing that's going to take me out of the world or ruin my immersion in it. I'm thinking I want somewhere around 10 or so content/quest mods to add to the campaign. Quote
Isewein Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 (edited) Pretty much all of Kulyok's mods fit right in, Reunion and Return to Brynnlaw even actively expand on the main plot. So does The Crucible. Tower of Deception has a very classic AD&D feel to it, as do Acifer's recent mods. The older Fishing for Trouble and Tales of Anegh mods do too, but they're a tad unpolished in places, though certainly playable. While Lava's quest mods are the gold standard in area design and creative writing, you might want to avoid them for some of the tonal discrepancies you worry about. roshan Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 Thanks for the response! When you say Fishing for Trouble is unpolished, is it because of bugs, grammatical errors, etc? I've read about Kulyok's mods giving too much XP and items, is that true? Will definitely be installing Call of the Lost Goddess, Crucible and Dark Tidings. Quote
Austin Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Although it is a bit immodest of me, I can recommend you Component #4 from our mod "Heroes, Thieves, and Moneylenders". It adds two interconnected long detective-style quests (each of which can be solved in different ways), one new area (ruins near Athkatla). Does not affect the balance of the game at all, fits perfectly into the atmosphere of role-playing. Quote
