Integration into ScummVm project?

I'll ask it again since it got drowned and I'm surious: will GemRB check for the original CD in the drive?

I would suspect that it would be okay to omit the CD check, for 2 reasons: 1) BioWare has stated that they only put the CD check in at the request of the publisher, and Interplay is now dead, and 2) BioWare is now "on record" as not supporting the CD check, by removing the CD check from the 1.66 patch of Neverwinter Nights.

 

I would guess, that if BioWare ever released another patch for any of the Baldur's Gate games, the CD check would be removed.

Interplay is still a going concern. It doesn't have much money or staff, but the company is not legally dead.

Maybe not legally dead, but I doubt their "going concern" includes snuffing out an infinity engine rebuild just because they didn't include the CD check. I think their only concern is collecting revenue from remaining inventory, liquidating assets, and trying to auction off IP.

Yes, indeed, as I said earlier I don't think including a check actually "helps" GemRB in any way, but a valid reason for omitting one is not the legal status of Interplay anyway, particularly since it still exists.

Any 'reasonable person' could simply remove the check, heheheh....

removing it is not the point. Cd-check can is removed from 95% of "close-code" games.
