Domi Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I would like to be able to add a short dialogues *mentioning* NPCs that can romance a female Charname. The NPC in question will not say a single word. His or her name will be used. If you have an objection to it, I would like to be notified, so I would not step on anyone's toes.
Andyr Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 It might be best to contact authors individually, since I wouldn't be sure they'd all read this forum. I know I don't read a lot of mod forums.
Domi Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 Then it means that they don't care about what I do; hence I get my answer by default.
Andyr Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Well, that's one way of looking at it. If your home town has lots of CCTV cameras, then you could use the same argument to justify breaking in to shops on streets without cameras since they don't care about security on them. It is probably also a matter of time that people don't read everything.
Domi Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 Surely, mentioning the shops in a conversation is not a crime as compared to breaking in. Again, I repeat, I do not do anything related to their NPCs appart from mentioning them in a conversation.
Andyr Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 I'm not suggesting you are doing anything bad, just that I personally think it would be a better idea to contact the authors rather than assume they'll read here or not care.
Domi Posted November 6, 2005 Author Posted November 6, 2005 Thank you for your suggestion. I don't think that this particular case warrants the correspondence and bothering people.
BigRob Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Mentioning is a pretty grey area... Personally, I don't mind the idea for Aklon, because it's one NPC giving an opinion about another and not interacting with them. Which means that any mischaracterisations are made on the part of the NPC. Some other people might not be so easygoing on that... It might avoid argument in the long run to just send a single PM, email or something informing authors of your intention.
Grim Squeaker Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I agree with Andy and Rob. While mentioning isn't a big deal and there's no risk of mischaracterisation I would strongly recommend at least PMing the authors to say that you're doing it. Then it means that they don't care about what I do; hence I get my answer by default. This isn't true, Domi. I only came across this post just because it was the most recent thread in KoS forum. I don't have time to read through every forum on G3 or on any other modding forum, but that doesn't mean I don't care what's going on there.
Domi Posted November 13, 2005 Author Posted November 13, 2005 Well, scratch that. There seems to be such a strong opposition to doing these things, that I'd rather not meddle in that bussiness
