Fencing i.e. swashbuckling style swordplay has been the toy of the nobility for ages.

Sure there are some pirate swashbucklers & some street dualing swasbucklers, but by and large the main swords of the swashbucklers have been expensive & thus tools of the nobility.

This was the arguement that I had been unable to put into words. Thanks Rathwellin.

Okay, it seems that adding a wild mage kit is going to be a git to do so that is out as an option.

Keeping it legal, the mage options for Imoen are:

Conjurer

Enchanter

Illusionist

Invoker

Transmuter

Keeping it legal, the mage options for Nalia are:

Conjurer

Illusionist

Invoker

Transmuter

I may provide more than one option here.

Yes, but that's just what the word means, not what the kit actually does.

(The word "swashbuckling" comes from the practice of beaing your sword against your buckler while going about town showing off your fashionable new rapier. Much like people who install extra bass speakers in their cars today to make as much noise as possible...)

As you can probably guess, I'd suggest illusionist for Imoen :D

I don't know about Nalia. Since Edwin is either a conjurer or a transmuter (I can never remember which one), Nalia could perhaps be an invoker. I have no direct reason for that, though, since I just dismissed the "there's an illusionist in the game already" argument in Imoen's case...

I'll just jump in again to let people know that the Refinements mod currently has a component that turns Imoen into a Swashbuckler/Mage dual class character.

Perhaps... but not everyone may want to install Refinements, and, as such, would miss out on the component. :D

I've been think a little about Mazzy's kit. NiGHTMARE provided some good information but there are some drawbacks. The main two being that it is not a fighter kit and it is a little too powerful. Mazzy has dialogue where she laments that she is not a paladin. I don't think she would be complaining as if she were a truesword as described in Demihuman Deities. I have watered things down a little and come up with the following figher kit:

TRUESWORD OF ARVOREEN: Arvoreen is the nearest thing to a halfling war god. He is a god of stern defence and aggressive watchfulness, who is always preparing for incursions into halfling lands and making ready to repulse hostile creatures at the first sign of trouble. Arvoreen is venerated primarily by halfling fighters.

Fighters that enter the church of Arvoreen, and prove themselves worthy, are risen to the rank of Truesword. Trueswords are the protectors and defenders of Halfling communities. They mount regular patrols, always investigating the slightest hint of a threat. Many Trueswords regularly adventure to gain magical weapons and defensive items of all kinds.

Trueswords of Arvoreen must be halflings of Lawful Good, Neutral Good, or Lawful Neutral alignment.

Advantages:

- Lay On Hands (heals 1 hit point per level) once per day

- Detect Evil (as the 1st-level priest spell) once per day

- From 3rd level can cast Strength (as the 2nd-level wizard spell) once per day

- From 5th level may Invoke Courage for 1 turn once per day per level

- From 7th level can cast Glyph of Warding (as the 3rd-level priest spell) once per day

- From 9th level can cast Strength of One (as the 3rd-level priest spell) once per day (replaces Strength)

- From 11th level can cast Haste (as the 3rd level wizard spell, but on themselves only) once per day

- From 14th level can cast Champion's Strength (as the 5th-level priest spell) once per day (replaces Champion's Strength)

Disadvantages:

- May only specialise in short swords, short bows and slings

This kit would be unique to Mazzy. Comments?

I'm sure I've read somewhere that Sarevok was a Deathbringer. A possible source of this information could be his ToB version of Sarevok's Sword (The upgraded version). I browsed through all of his dialogue files and didn't find anything there, so its either in some item description, another out of the way spot, or I'm just hallucinating.

Regarding Refinements, I was just letting you know that other people have had the same idea before and that the idea isn't without precedent. In other words, if you think it works, go for it.

Yep, Ascension.

Sarevok's Sword of Chaos

The blade of Sarevok, brother of <CHARNAME>, used in the battle they fought in faraway Baldur's Gate.  <CHARNAME> prevailed, destroying Sarevok's plans and rescuing the Sword Coast from the brink of war.  Now Sarevok has joined with <CHARNAME>'s cause and his blade has been restored to him.  Sarevok describes the weapon as a Deathbringer blade and has restored some of the weapon's old power.  Without his Bhaalspawn essence to channel through the sword, however, it cannot achieve the power it once had.  Still, however, it is a formidable weapon...and one that Sarevok warns would become increasingly difficult to wield in the hands of one who was not a Deathbringer, if they could use it at all.

STATISTICS:

Abilities: each hit drains one to five hit points from the target and transfers it to the wielder.  This will not heal beyond the wielder's maximum.

The blade also grants +10% Magic Resistance while wielded.

Damage:  1D10 +4

THAC0: +4 bonus

Damage type:  slashing

Weight: 10

Speed Factor: 8

Proficiency Type: Two Handed sword

Type:  2-handed

Requires: 14 Strength, 18 Constitution

Not Usable By:

Cleric

Mage

Paladin

Ranger

Druid

non-Chaotic aligned

It does suggest a kit, but Deathbringer could just as easily be some kind of title.
