Someone with enough time on their hands (or not) and enough desire to create their own world would probably be capable of creating their own IE sprites. Even if they don't have the knowhow, they can research it. If someone wants to make their dreams a (virtual) reality enough then they will probably do it if it's possible and for free.

This is a very optimistic attitude, but I assure you, someone with an active imagination is not necessarily a skilled 3D artist.

That's the thing, they'll practice every spare moment and learn to create something that they're happy with. Sure, talent is useful but enough practice will make usually make anyone good at something.

though according to the appdb on winehq, PT should work fine with wine, (and thats probably the way im

As the AppDB maintainer of PST I can say that it does play perfectly, I've completed the game about 5-6 times using wine. But please note that I no longer use wine since I moved to a 64-bit version of Debian. So I can't really offer any help if things go wrong anymore.

My hopes of getting PTS have not yet come true, though it could (should) still...

To answer the SCUMMVM issue - well, they do discourage using it for new games, though one could conclude that it would be possible if looking at the discussions on the forum. Their advice in the FAQ is that its not worth the trouble and that using SDL and Python from ground-up in creating a new point'n'click adventure would probably be better.

Also, there allready exist AGS (freeware, closed source, for linux and win) and SCI Studio (public domain, since a few months ago with no developers) IDE enviroments for creating point'n'click adventures (probably making the task much simpler than using the VM or SDL anyways) - and ScummVM team is in any case not interesed in creating another such tool, due to the magnitude of such a task. There are a few new adventure VMs, for creating new fan-made games, not sure how theyre progressing. In any case, ScummVM seems more interested in specialising in supporting old games (not only SCUMM based - theyre more a collection of varous point'n'click engines actually), debugging that support to the widest number of games and game versions, and are doing an incredibly great job in this..

No, Ive never heard of modding adventures. Whole fan-made adventures do exist however - mostly made in AGS..
