Menelanna
Okay...here is what happened to me. My Baldur's Gate 2 game crashed and was not working anymore. So I uninstalled the game and was going to reinstall it. Well now SoA is uninstalled but my computer being the pain the butt it is still seems to think that the game is installed. A strange thing is that the files were still on my computer, but it would not let me open the game. I copied the files and saved them to a portable drive (just to be safe) and deleted them off of my computer. So I have no BG2 files in my Black Ilse folder. When I put my disk in the main menu pops up like normal, but it still thinks the game is installed which it is not. I have tried opening the files from the disks to trick it into installing, but that has not worked. I have also tried to go into my Control Panel and remove the the game data from there. Unfortunetly it will not let me remove it at all. A strange thing is...that when I put my data files that I saved onto my removable drive back onto my computer. I can install ToB and it works normally, but I cannot get SoA to work at all. Can anyone please please please help figure out how to fix my problem so that I can play my favorite game again? Anything you guys can do to help me would be most appreciated! Link to comment
berelinde
I had the exact same thing happen to me. And it was most annoying. I think it had something to do with the install shield failing to close properly. For me, there was a work-around. I hope it works for you. I use Windows XP. I went to system tools and selected the "system restore" option. I reverted to an earlier restoration point. After rebooting my computer, it was restored to that point. This doesn't mess with saved documents, saved photos, saved games, emails or anything else like that. Once you have gone to a restoration point before your scrambled uninstallation, you should be able to uninstall/reinstall as normal. Hope this helps. Link to comment
CamDawg
Bioware has step-by-step instructions for manually uninstalling your game: http://www.bioware.com/games/shadows_amn/s...tml?faqID=40#11 Link to comment
Menelanna
Fixed!! Thank you both of you for the information. It really helped. Lesson learned here...do NOT download a mod that has not been fully tested yet. Link to comment
berelinde
Unless you're darned sure you can get things back to the way they were before. Seriously, though, while the problems with your game were no doubt mod-related, I do not think your uninstallation was. I've seen reports of unmodded games failing to uninstall properly. Regardless, glad you no longer have to endure BG withdrawl. Link to comment
Smoketest
This is why I always inspect mod TP2 files before I let them run. I don't trust the coding of others, and with good reason: most mod writers are not professional coders. (I don't even trust most 'professionals'.) Even if the mod appears to install and work correctly, not everyone writes "well-behaved" mod installations, so the seeds for future failures can be planted without your knowing it. Oh, it's also a good idea to back up your DIALOG.TLK (both of them if you're international) and Override folder. That way you can always go back to a clean install by deleting the current override folder and restoring your original files. I do this all the time, especially with the TLK file since WeiDU won't uninstall all the strings it likes to add to the end of it. Link to comment
