NiGHTMARE Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 Well I know Bioware made a lot of mistakes, but I'm sure even they wouldn't have a duergar who looks like a shield/gold dwarf .
Guest Child Of Murder Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 I had the same discussion over at Gamejag and in the end we agreed that it was either another undeveloped idea or perhaps Korgan had more than one designer, one of whom wrote the dialogues that intended him to duergar while the other was unaware of these plans or chose to ignore them. As for elves and beards, while I can't find any specific mention of elven body hair (or lack thereof) in any sourcebook, in the Dragonlance saga Tanis Half-Elven says that he can pass as either elf or human due to his beard, which full elves cannot grow. Whether Dragonlance elves are the same as FR elves in 3E is a can of worms I'd rather not open.
Eldae Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 I'm pretty sure 3E says something about elves and a lack of facial hair... either that or its FR, but I think one of them said that.
MysticTempest Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Well, I personally think that elves look far better without facial hair, so that's the way I am going. (Geez, I'm a sucker for punishment, removing beards...)
Fallen_Demon Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Definitely always thought of korgan as a surface dwarf, especially because he gains control of a clan on the surface in his epilouge. Maybe the bloodaxe clan was focused near an underdark entrance from which house DeVir came up to raid villages.
NiGHTMARE Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Agreed, I don't see why Shield and Gold Dwarves clans who live deep underground couldn't be included in "Those Below".
Fallen_Demon Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Theres only one dialogue that refears to him coming from the underdark 'I left the underdark long ago', which could very while refear to some backstory of him having adventures in the underdark which was never developed, maybe trying to live among druegar b/c he had a more similar personality than most gold or shield dwarves. Otherwise the mentionshions of his kinship could refear to him simply considering all dwarves kin. I suppose Nightmare's explination works better, except for the fact that i could of sworn when you get to the underdark he asks vic for knowladge of it or something, but i can't find it and my memory tends not to work well. (glances at topic title) wait this is what its about...were way off topic
MysticTempest Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Question - I know Viconia is a drow already, but do you think it is worthwhile darkening her skin as well as changing her clothes colours, just to match with the set of the set better? So this thread doesn't get totally derailed, PM me what you think.
Guest Aristothenes Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Bioware's made mucho mistakes, but think of the deadlines they have been up against... Here's one good one: Gully dwarves in BG1. But you could always say they got there the same way the odd items from Planescape, Oerth, Mystara and Dark Sun arrived.
MysticTempest Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Sorry there haven't been any portrait updates recently - my daughter has been rather ill so I haven't had time. Should be able to get back to it in the next couple of days though.
BevH Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 I echo Rob's sentiment. With 3 daughters of my own I know what it's like to have one that's sick.
NiGHTMARE Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Where are the Gully Dwarves in BG1? I don't recall seeing any.
