Guest Guest Posted November 25, 2006 Share Posted November 25, 2006 Hi there, I've been experiencing the problem that when i try to enter Ymmyrts house to rescue Amber the game crashes. I have a number of other npc mods installed but all of them should have been tested properly. Is there anything i can do about this or should i just forget about rescuing Amber? thanks in advance Link to comment
Meira Posted November 26, 2006 Share Posted November 26, 2006 Just to confirm: the game crashes when you try to enter the building (the second new area) and not after you used the map in order to move to the courtyard before the house (the first new are where you meet Lorraine). Which version of Amber are you using and are you a Mac or Windows user? There was a problem with the spell refresh mod, and a Mac only problem with AreaCheckObject() trigger but I thought I fixed them for the latest (2.3) version. Can you post you weidu.log and tell if you have any non-weidu mods installed? Link to comment

Interesting.... Do you recall if any of the guards on the yard retreated inside the building during the battle? Ie. did you 'kill' Lorraine before all the guards? The guards on the courtyard are supposed to retreat when Lorraine hit points drop low enough. Inside the house they're moved away from the entrance via a script. The retreat process was altered when I got rid of the AreaCheckObject() trigger, but I did test it and it worked perfectly in my game. I might be though that a specific creature script or guard creature is causing an issue now. I didn't test all the individual guards, just couple because I (foolishly) thought that it would be enough. If you take an earlier save and try to kill all the guards before Lorraine makes a plea for her life, what happens? Link to comment

That may be because she was under the influence of a hold or confusion spell but im not quite sure. But yes the guards did retreat. I begin to think its an installation error but it still seems strange. I'll try and make another go for the rescue. I'll notify you of the results. Link to comment

Lorraine's plot is supposed to be pretty 'resistant' to different scenarios (including if she's held or confused etc. and if the guards are killed before her or not). Even if she from some reason does not speak, that should not lead into game crashing - she's 'just' a side plot and her fate does not directly affect the main plot. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 29, 2006 Share Posted November 29, 2006 I have the same problem. I engaged Lorraine and the guards, focusing on Lorraine since she seems the toughest. I actually got her down to the point where the guards flee (I hadn't actually killed *any* of them) and she gives me the wardstone. There were two guards left that didn't flee (one was unconscious due to Minsc's Sleeper Mace and the other was panicking because he was so injured... he had a yellow circle). Killed both those guards, quicksaved, and entered the apartment. It shows my party inside a very short hallway for a second or two and then crashes to desktop. Like out of the whole game. Boom. Reloaded twice, once from my quicksave, once from the autosave, and it still crashed both times. And I don't have a save file to go back to since both my quicksave and autosave are almost the exact same moment in time. The latest save I have before that is like, 4 game days prior. You could send me a copy your savegame and I'll see if it crashes in my install as well. Lorraine's plot is supposed to be pretty 'resistant' to different scenarios (including if she's held or confused etc. and if the guards are killed before her or not). Even if she from some reason does not speak, that should not lead into game crashing - she's 'just' a side plot and her fate does not directly affect the main plot. Hi again, Sorry for the late response. I have now tried playing a load game from earlier still leading to the same error. However since i only had 3 mods installed all of which are minor I thought that I might as well try and reinstall the game and the mods to see if it made a difference... It turns out that while it disrupted the dialogues in my save-game it completely eliminated the crash-problem. I dont know what to make of this but it seems like it is an error of installation rather than an error in the mod. Although it seems incredible that so many people would be struck by installation errors? Besides of the little glitches it appears to be a great mod Thank you for your assistance so far and good luck to you in finding out whatever went wrong Link to comment
