Guest braden
a warlock DOES rely on strategy. if you have a mage, you know the dude's going to hang in the back and cast. if you have a fighter, you know he's going to chop heads off and melee. a warlock is a shit character if you don't know how to use him. he's not a caster, so relying on him for that is not going to be very helpful, because he has a handful of ranged blasts that don't do massive damage like horrid wilting or even a well-placed magic missile or contagion + chromatic orb. if you send him in as a tank he's going to be hacked to bits because he doesn't have a good enough thac0 to hold his own, and his HP and AC aren't tankish. So he's a fighter/mage with diluted versions of both, but leveling up faster. you have to use strategy to correctly use the blasts to weaken your opponent before melee or finish him off. don't give me that argument about strategy either, what about a plain fighter with a big sword and full plate? where's his stategy? knowing when to drink his healing potions or to attack the casters first? give me a break. and i'm not making the kit, so im not an interested party as you say, i just get sick of people harping on kits and characters that they assume are powergame kits, without actually thinking about it. a warlock's eldritch abilities aren't akin to 'blasting your way through a level'. maybe if it was a group of kobolds, sure, but even 10d6 damage at high level? that's not a giant amount, really. thats the same as a nice crit or a meteor swarm or something that another class could do at that level. Guest Guest
Played with warlock for a while, he’s not that powerful at all at the moment. Minsc with common 2-hd sword doing much better, and -4 to attack rolls from missile penalty when enemy come close don’t help either. He’s still quite good for me... So, anyway, is there any tutorial on how to create a new HLA table? Link to comment
Andyr
HLAs are dealt with by Cam's kit creation tutorial, in the Tutorials section of this forum. Essentially, they're controlled by luXXX.2DA files which list, fairly straightforwardly, the .spl files which become available, prerequisites and exlusions and so on. Link to comment
Guest Guest
I made LUXXX.2da, copied it to override, and modified LUABBR.2da so my kit use that LUXXX.2da I made, but I don’t get any HLA at all with this kit after this... even if LUXXX.2da = LUBA0.2da. There must be something I’m missing obviously. Link to comment
Andyr
The XXX is any three letters you like; these must match the three letters you specify when you use ADD_KIT. Don't try to modify LUABBR.2DA by hand; by using ADD_KIT you know WeiDU will modify the correct files in the correct places, and you'll be able to uninstall your changes simply (e.g. if you make a mistake somewhere). If you type in "BA0" at the appropriate place in the .tp2 for your kit, then they will get Bard HLAs. There shouldn't be anything else you need to do. Link to comment
Guest Guest
I already use WeiDU and ADD_KIT, just like tutorials say... Strangely, when I renamed my luxxx another time it’s worked, so I guess missed a word somewhere previously. Thank you anyway! Link to comment
