Nugrud
Baldur's Gate II install in Wine: Go here, get version 6 of Install Shield: These days Autorun.exe and the whole installation process works with plain WINE seemlessly, no need for any Install Shields or whatever of that sort. Though, wine must be <0.9.37, cause of bug #8489. I think you described it because you had problems with some older d-bus blocking cd-rom tray Link to comment
Lightkey
Nugrud: Baldur's Gate II has a rating of Bronze, nowhere near the top ten of Platinum, Gold or even Silver; although the "official" rating is done by the maintainer alone, so not always accurate. http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=272 Link to comment

What critical issues while playing BG2 under WINE are you experiencing? Link to comment
zefklop
Baldur's Gate II works perfectly with 3D acceleration disabled. If you set the 3D animations, you won't see any difference. The only one is technical : 3D acceleration uses openGL instead of directX. Link to comment
