Banter is gone

Downs Duck

Recommended Posts

Good day to you all.

I currently installed Easytutu with all of the steps taken here, in the correct order:

http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showtopic=8122

EDIT: In Castlekeep, I just answered the questions from the modded character (a guard), that ask me if I just want to get the potions and gold instead of doing the quests myself. I answered yes, and got all the potions and stuff.

I then shopped for a longsword for my Kensai character and went to see Gorion. No problems there.

So far so good.

When I wake up from being ambushed, Imoen comes and talk to me, all good.

She joins the party, all good.

But when I search the dropped Items of Gorion, she does not speak/banter as she did in a previous install.

I miss it.

Oh, I am sorry! You haven't actually installed the mod. You probably ran setup-BG1NPC.exe once, which updated WeiDU, but didn't run it a second time to install the mod.

I know this, because I'm looking at your WeiDU.log, and I don't see any BG1NPC entries.

~SETUP-INDINPC.TP2~ #0 #0 // Indira NPC for BG1Tutu

I would expect BG1 NPC to go somewhere around the same place in the installation as the music pack.

This is a hassle, because if you try to install it now, after you've installed everything else, you might run into some trouble. I hate to ask you to reinstall everything again, but I don't know if you have a choice. If it were me, I'd install it now and hope for the best. If you've got to do a clean installation anyway, at least you can try to see if it works to have BG1 NPC at the end.

I will install it again, and if it doesn't work, I'll do it all again.

I noticed on some of the installers that it just updated the files, and asked me to install them (since Windows wouldn't let the installer or something). I thought I got them all, but this one obviously slipped.

Thank you for helping me, once again :p

EDIT: I'll also install the music pack for BG1 NPC Project before I install everything again from the beginning.

Maybe I won't have to *crosses fingers*

If you're going to do a fresh installation anyway, then let me offer a few hints that will make the process go more smoothly.

Print out your WeiDU log so you have an easy reference for the mods and components you want to install. Write in BG1 NPC Project so you don't forget it.

Uninstall Tutu using the add/remove programs utility in your control panel (if you're running Windows).

Delete the entire BaldursGateTutu folder in your Program Files. That will save you a big headache.

Start your installation over with a completely clean slate.

Whether you need to run the setup-MyMod.exe once or twice depends on the packaged version of its WeiDU installer. Recent releases use the current version, v198. Older mods use older versions, which is fine. Once you install a mod with a newer version WeiDU, it updates all the other, older copies of WeiDU. If, after that, you go and install a mod with an older version of WeiDU, the first installation will update the copy of WeiDU to the current one, and the second installs the mod.

Great advice, although I have no printer. I'll just look at the log, switching back and forth between it and the installation.

I'll try to check if I get the banter first, and then I'll do a new install anyway.

Get back to you if I run into problems.

I see hehe.

I was wondering if I should make a backup for every MAIN number I install of mods. Like Backup 1 when i have installed mods for 1.1, 1.2, 1.3.

Backup 2 would be for installed mods 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and so forth.

It seems to me that there maybe could be a better way to do this than back up all the folders for every install.

Or MUST I backup the override folder, baldur.ini, chitin.ini and such for every backup?

Or should I not backup things at all - just rather try out the game for each mod (hell of a time consuming task...)

If you backup your override, dialog.tlk, chitin.key, baldur.ini once, you won't have to do it again, for that version of Easy Tutu. You're going to do that before you install any mods. After that, you're going to just install your mods and play. No need to back up anything else, really.

Just noticed right now, when I installed the Bone Hill Mod:

After the Dialog says it is unpacking the Bone Hill files:

The dialog window/DOS Window shows many lines of "System can not find specified file".

Should I be worried about this?

It went fine after all, I think, because I got the line: "Press any key to continue" at the end, it then showed me the readme.txt, and the DOS Window went away.

Hoo, boy. I have no idea how Bone Hill plays with BG1 NPC, because I've never tried it. I know there were some issues, but I'm not sure what they are. I hope cmorgan sees this, because he's the expert on quest mod compatibility with BG1 NPC.

In any case, I'm afraid I can't offer much in the way of guidance with SoBH. I apologize.

To tell you the truth, this is a question for Miloch. He is the point person looking at SoBH compatibility. I know that it as listed as a warning because of both install and worldmap issues, and I know Sir BillyBob is an experienced modder who will fix stuff if it is broken - the problem is that RL has pushed his time all to heck. I say this so that if you take the question over to SHS, it may be a bit of time before he can get back to you :p

(BTW, Downs Duck, if you are in the middle of install and can wait for a few minutes, I could PM you the link to a version with a corrected Jaheira Quest and a noumber of other fixes in place. If you would like that, please PM me).
