December 20, 2008: A New Mod, Full Plate and Packing Steel, v1

With a new tweak mod, erik delivers a rework of the armour system of BG2, IWD and BG1Tutu, and a small collection of tweaks, dependent or not. In the standard armour system, characters as agile and sprightly in full plate as in light leather armour. Heavy armour helps not one bit if a goblin happens to hit you in the chest with a bent butterknife. You get hurt just as bad as the random unarmoured commoner. In his rework, light, enchanted armours actually help you dodge and take a bit of the sting out. Heavy, enchanted armours don't help dodging much. But they absorb perhaps half or more of the blow in exchange for slowing you down. Armour spells and potions are modified to match the systematic changes. Stealth, thieving, and casting in heavy armour is possible, but difficult. Heavy armour has quite another feel now. With packages for Windows, OS X, and Linux, version 1 ships with (and requires) "Dr." the bigg's shiny new WeiDU v209. You can learn more on the project page or readme, or you can participate in the Full Plate forum. The mod is available on the downloads page.

August 21, 2008: Nythrun's Level 1 NPCs Version 1.1 Released

Nythrun's mod derives from Gebhart Blucher's Alternate BG2 NPCs (lvl1npcs.zip). Her new version allows you to start any of the joinable NPC from BG and BG2 as level one characters with excess experience points. When they join your party, you can level them up and choose their skills. Their experience points end up being the same as if they had joined your party without the mod installed. Level 1 NPCs expands on Blucher's original concept by allowing players to assign any previously installed kit/class - default or customized - onto any default NPC from both BG1 and BG2 games. The mod also allows players to change the NPC's skills and weapon proficiencies. Khalid the Fighter/Painbearer of Ilmater, Mazzy the Paladin, Jaheira the Kensai, and Valygar the Wizard Slayer are just a few examples. The combinations are endless and the choices are purely up to the players interests. The extra benefit of the mod is that it allows the player to try customized kits from other mods, and to apply them to as many default NPCs in the game as desired. Now available for Windows, OS X, and Linux, this version adds a Polish translation by Yarpen, WeiDU update, and several bugfixes. The complete readme is also available, you can visit the forum, or you can grab the mod from the downloads page.

The BG2 Fixpack is a WeiDU compilation of fixes for Baldur's Gate II. With the disappearance of Kevin Dorner and the cessation of activity of the Baldurdash fixpack for BG2, several modders form many modding communities began working on a new WeiDU fixpack to address the numerous bugs that have been identified since Baldurdash. This collaborative effort, including the work of modders from several different modding communities, has resulted in a fixpack that currently includes all of the fixes addressed by Baldurdash (including the Game Text Update) and several hundred new bugfixes. Version 5 is the largest update yet for the Fixpack, with over 50 new bugfixes (including two more exclusive fixes for game breakers) added in just this release. Version 5 also addresses previous compatibility issues with the Ashes of Embers, Kivan, and Unfinished Business mods. The Fixpack is available from the downloads page or you can browse the readme. You can learn more about the mod (including complete documentation of the bugs fixed) from the project page. Feedback is strongly encouraged; please join us on the Fixpack forums.

January 28, 2008: Several OS X Mod Package Updates

Many G3 mods were packaged with WeiDU v203. Unfortunately, v203 has an auto-update bug on OS X that can prevent mods from installing. As such, we've updated all mods that used v203 to the newly released v204, which addresses this bug. Only the OS X packages (Windows users are fine) have been updated for the following mods: Angelo, Auren Aseph, Baldur's Gate Mini Quests and Encounters, IWD Tweak Pack, IWD2 NPC Project, NPC Kitpack, Oversight, Sarah, Sword and Fist, and Sword Coast Stratagems II. In addition, the OS X package of Crossmod Banter Pack was also updated to address a different issue that was also preventing installation.
