: Welcome Back to G3!

We've spent the past week migrating content to our new cloud-based platform and while we're still working down our checklist, we're re-opening the site and forums since we're confident that nothing will catch fire. At least not immediately. Definitely, probably sure.

At any rate, we'd like to thank you for your patience. We've done our best to keep our look and feel from the recent redesign though we're still ironing out a few rough edges. Our full suite of redirects are not fully active, so please bear with us through some inevitable 404s while we sort them out.

We also would like to extend our deepest gratitude to SHS, and to @SConrad in particular. They've been kind enough to host us for years and, while we're moving to a new host, we're very appreciative of the help they've given us. We simply could not have remained online without their assistance.

And speaking of a new host unfortunately means we get to speak of new obligations. For years G3 was hosted and paid for by the staff and modders of G3 itself; however, as the site has grown--and the modder pool has shrunk--it became progressively harder to make the ends meet. As such, we've added a new donation feature to the site for any of our wonderful community who are feeling generous. Every bit helps, and 100% will go directly to the hosting costs.

On a personal note, I'd like to thank both @Mike1072 and @theacefes for their phenomenal work making this move happen--and happen well, as it turns out. They've always being there to help pull me out of holes of my own making. They've both put in a lot of long hours--not their first time, and certainly not their last--and I'd like everyone to join me in sending our sincere appreciation their way.

Welcome back!

-- @CamDawg

: G3 Anniversary v11 Now Available

The G3 Anniversary mod was created by the resident modders on the site's first anniversary as a way to thank our wonderful community. It features one long (and admittedly somewhat silly) quest that can be initiated by speaking a Drini, a half-elf in the Copper Coronet. Version 11 fixes some character set isues for EE games that resulted in some missing characters in dialogue and a potential crash with one of the background items. More information about the mod is available in the readme or on its project page. You can download the mod or come and join us on the forums.

: New Mini-Mod/Portrait Pack: Continuous NPC Portraits

There are five NPCs in the Baldur's Gate series who have multiple official portraits. Edwin, Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, and Viconia all have different portraits for the BG and BG2 games; Imoen and Viconia have a third official portrait from Siege of Dragonspear. This mod will allow you to use any of these official portraits for them on any given game, e.g. you can use Imoen's BG portrait in BG2, or Viconia's SoD portrait in BG. The original and Enhanced Editions of Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II are supported, as is Siege of Dragonspear and the various conversion projects involving these NPCs (EET, BGT, and Tutu). Check out the project page, Readme or Portrait gallery for more info, or download it, or join us on the forum.

: Baldur's Gate II Fixpack Version 12 Released

The BG2 Fixpack is a WeiDU compilation of fixes for Baldur's Gate II. This collaborative effort, including the work of modders from several different modding communities, has been the definitive compilation of fixes to supplement the official patches since its initial release in 2006 and includes all of the fixes addressed by previous efforts such as Baldurdash (including the Game Text Update) plus several hundred more.

This update marks the largest expansion of the Fixpack since its initial release, and concludes the four releases in the v11 beta series. The culmination is version 12, the first new stable release since 2013, and meets the two very ambitious goals set for it:

  • Modernization. The Fixpack was started over a decade ago, and a lot of the code shows its age. I used to joke that a rewrite of Fixpack would cut its code to a tenth of its current size--as it turns out, it was only about a half. The upshot is going to be much easier maintenance, a series of very useful macros (CD_EXTEND-O-MATIC could probably write about 90% of a new Spell-50 mod, if anyone's so inclined), a lot more flexibility, faster turnaround for new versions, and a much easier to read (and therefore customize to their preferences) Fixpack for players.
  • Expansion. The advent of the Enhanced Editions has been an absolute boon. Having a full team of developers, QA, and a massive influx of players identified a ton of new material to address. Since the EEs incorporated the Fixpack since their inception, a number of bugs that Fixpack thought it fixed but really didn't were identified along with identification of more content to restore, and just plain old bugs that had just never been noticed much less fixed. While there are a veritable ton of new bug fixes, Fixpack still has significant ground to make up to catch the BG2EE 2.5 release, and work will continue.

The changelog for the mod can be found in this thread (or jump directly to the v11 beta series or v12). The Fixpack is available from the downloads page or you can browse the readme. You can learn more about the mod (including documentation of the bugs fixed) from the project page. Feedback is strongly encouraged; please join us on the Fixpack forums.

: G3 Caps Off the Celebration with a Site and Forum Redesign

Thanks you for joining us on our countdown to 15! The final surprise for our community is a long-overdue redesign of the site and forums. Please join us on the forums to celebrate, or provide feedback directly on the new design.

: berelinde's Keldorn Romance updates to v4!

This mod introduces a romance for the original BioWare NPC Keldorn. It is compatible with all BGII games: original BGII, BGII:EE, BGT, and EET. This mod offers a chance to romance Athkatla's newest... and most reluctant... bachelor. All relationships take work, and this one takes more than most, but the rewards are great, for those patient enough to endure the trials. Version 4 contains bugfixes from the previous version. Learn more on the project page, forum thread, readme, or head over to the downloads section.

: Sorcerer's Place Collection v11 Released

This collection of kits and an item pack from Sorcerer's Place has a slew of bugfixes and a revised Italian translation, thanks to Aedan. The mods in this collection were originally in an older, harder-to-install format until CamDawg converted them to use a WeiDU installer. Item restrictions are applied dynamically, meaning that the item restrictions for the Arcane Fist and Archer of Sylvanus kits will be implemented across all items in the game, including those added or altered by other mods. Polar Bear, Drizzt1180, and Creslyn wrote the original content. Grab it from the downloads page, browse the readme or project page, or join us on the forum.

: Corthala Romantique v1 Released!

This mod introduces a romance and additional content for Valygar Corthala and is available for BG2, BG2EE, BGT, and EET. Originally a part of the TeamBG mod 'Tortured Souls', the romance had a short-lived history as stand-alone part of said mod. It's since been reworked with lots of additional content and revisions and is now ready as a separate download. The Corthala Romantique adds a romance for female PCs (no short races) of good or neutral alignment (no chaotic neutral) or female druids. To proceed with the romance, the reputation has to be above 13. The mod also adds friendship talks for the SoA part of the game for PCs that do not fulfill the romance criteria. For ToB, all dialogues added are for romance, only. More information about the mod is available in the readme or on its project page. You can download the mod or come and join us on the forums.

: Version 6 of Tweaks Anthology Released

The Tweaks Anthology is a WeiDU compilation of fixes, cosmetic changes, and tweaks that will run on every Infinity Engine game, from the original Planescape:Torment, through the Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate series, and the new Enhanced Editions of the games. The successor to BG2 Tweaks and several other tweak packs, some of these were fan requests, others are needed fixes, and others simply make dealing with the more irritating aspects of the game engine easier. Each component can be installed separately so the player can pick and choose only which ones they wish to install. Version 6 assimilates several components from SCS and BG1 NPC and also fixes a number of bugs. Download the new version, learn about the mod by visiting the project page or readme, or join us on the forums.

: Sword Coast Stratagems v31 Now Available

Sword Coast Stratagems is a collection of interconnected mini-mods for Baldur's Gate (on the BGT/BGTUTU/BGEE versions) and Baldur's Gate II. It is primarily a tactical and AI-enhancement mod: the idea is to make the game's combat more interesting, tactically challenging, and realistic by more effective use of, and choices of, creatures' abilities. It also contains a few rule tweaks and ease-of-use features. Version 31 is primarily a maintenance release to fix some longstanding bugs while DavidW works on the next version. Grab it direct here. You can also visit the extensive project pages, readme, or SCS forum for more information.

: G3 Welcomes The Calling, a New Quest Mod for BGEE, BGT, EET, and Tutu

Designed originally to be a series of class-related quests, it's now being released as quests get developed and completed. At present one quest is available, along with an item pack and a peaceful resolution to some TotSC content. More information about the mod is available in the readme or on its project page. You can download the mod or come and join us on the forums.

: Wheels of Prophecy v7 Now Available

The Wheels of Prophecy is a mod for Baldur's Gate II and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition by DavidW, author of Sword Coast Stratagems, adding new content, dialog and roleplaying options to the Throne of Bhaal expansion. It makes only minor changes to the main storyline but allows the player to interact with that storyline in a much more non-linear way. Version 7 fixes some bugs in the previous version. More information about the mod is available in the readme or on its project page. You can download the mod or come and join us on the forums.

: Crossmod Banter Pack v16 Released

Another release for G3's upcoming 15th anniversary, the Crossmod Banter Pack is a collaborative effort to add banters between mod NPCs that add content to Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal, written by the original NPC authors working in collaboration. Version 16 fixes a ton of typos, makes the mod EET compatible, and fixes one more bug. Available for Windows, OS X, and Linux, you can download the mod, browse the readme, or wander through the project page, or join us on the forum.

: G3 Anniversary v10 Now Available

The celebration rolls on, with an entirely appropriate update to the G3 Anniversary mod, which was created by the resident modders on the site's first anniversary as a way to thank our wonderful community. It features one long (and admittedly somewhat silly) quest that can be initiated by speaking a Drini, a half-elf in the Copper Coronet. : Vynd NPC v2 Released

More celebrations as a new version of the Vynd NPC mod: a Drow Assassin, recruitable at the Burning Wizard inn in Beregost. Though evil in alignment, he will not complain or leave due to reputation. Vynd includes a dialogue track with the player character consisting of 20 talks, banters with all Bioware NPCs (including the four Enhanced Edition newcomers), numerous interjections and extensive player-initiated dialogue. Version 2 fixes some bugs, and makes the mod compatible with the EET conversion. Learn more about Vynd on his project page or readme, download the mod, or join us on the forums.

: v2 of Level One NPCs Available

Nythrun's mod derives from Gebhart Blucher's Alternate BG2 NPCs (lvl1npcs.zip). Her massive opus of "allow player choice" allows you to start any of the joinable NPCs from BG and BG2 as level one characters with excess experience points. When they join your party, you can level them up and choose their skills. Level 1 NPCs expands on Blucher's original concept by allowing players to assign any previously installed kit/class - default or customized - onto any default (and many mod-added joinable) NPCs from both BG1 and BG2 games. The mod also allows players to change the NPC's skills and weapon proficiencies, individually tweak stats, and much, much more... Khalid the Fighter/Painbearer of Ilmater, Mazzy the Paladin, Jaheira the Kensai, and Valygar the Wizard Slayer are just a few examples. Version 2 makes some long overdue bugfixes and extends--tentatively--support for BGEE, BG2EE, and EET. The full changelog can be found in the complete readme. You can also visit the forum, project page, or you can grab the mod from the downloads page.

: Unfinished Business for Icewind Dale v8 Released

The celebration continues with IWD Unfinished Business! Like its predecessors for Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II, Unfinished Business for Icewind Dale aims to restore content and quests that were omitted from the game as shipped. The additional content in this mod is based on what I can piece together from various game resources and from talking with former developer JE Sawyer on the Obsidian forums. Later, through my work with Beamdog, I was able to secure some of the original quest design notes and further refine the restorations. Version eight backports some fixes we made in IWDEE to the mod, as well as making the lone component omitted from IWDEE--Marketh's Ring--available for IWDEE and EET games. Download the mod, check out the readme or project page, or come participate in the forums.

: Version 5 of the NPC Kitpack Is Released

Idobek's NPC Kitpack is designed to add four new kits and provide the opportunity to give a kit to eight of the BioWare NPCs. Version 5 adds a number of bugfixes as well as EET compatibility. You can find it on the downloads page, browse the readme or project page, or join us on the forum.

: Mur'Neth v12 Now Available

Mur'Neth is an NPC mod for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition or either of the Baldur's Gate conversions, Tutu or BGT-WeiDU. He can be found inside the Nashkel Mines and is a Ghaunadan, a member of the race of ooze - like shapechangers who venerate Ghaunadaur, the evil deity of oozes, moulds and the like. Version 12 adds compatibility for EET and fixes a possible crash upon his joining in EE games. Mur'Neth can be acquired from the downloads page or you can learn more about the mod in the forum, the project page, or the readme.

: Geomantic Sorcerer, Every Mod and Dog Receive Updates

Another pair of mini-mod updates keeps the anniversary celenration going.

The Geomantic Sorcerer Kit is strongly based on the Druidic Sorcerer Kit by Constant Gaw, and resurrected by hlidskialf and loosely based on the Geomancer prestige class from the AD&D 3rd Edition Masters of the Wild manual. The kit combines the sorcerer's spellcasting methods and spells with additional druidic spells and abilities and features its own unique tiered HLA progression and custom spells. Version 5 adds EE compatibility, specifically making it a proper sorcerer kit for EE games, as well as streamlined code. Download the mod, visit the forum, or learn more on the project page or readmeUpdate: Version 6 has been released (same links) to fix some crash bugs.

Every Mod and Dog (EMaD) is a WeiDU-based mod that adds a selection of small diversions and sidequests to Baldur's Gate II, original or Enhanced Editions.
