  1. Hey @DavidW,

    Sorry to bother you again with questions:

    - Does "...\stratagems\iwdspells\copyover\tra\..." and "...\stratagems\bg2spells\copyover_bg2\tra\..." files need to be translated/proofreaded?

    - Is the illithids' ability "Mind Blast" (@303 "...\stratagems\lang\english\psionic.tra") supposed to be the same as "Psionic Blast" ingame (@5739/@103209 BG2EE - @25982/@32897 BGEE)? It was previously translated likewise in French.

    - In "...\stratagems\lang\english\difficulty.tra"...

    @261="Fiends will attack fairly unintelligently. They will use some of their offensive magical powers, but not the most lethal ones, and mostly will not teleport, attack your magical defenses or renew their own magical defenses."

    The word "mostly" is a bit confusing, does that mean they will very rarely or never teleport, attack/renew magical defenses?

    dw_iwdspells.tra: I think all those alternative-form bold suggestions look fine, but I suggest trying it out (it's for the IWD spells components, first two components of SCS). I think the bold bits for sfo_lua.tra are fine too but it's harder to test as actually that code isn't used in SCS (it will be used in ToF).

    LISTNAME is one of the eight schools of magic (e.g. Necromancy). It's guaranteed singular.

    Alright, thanks!

    As a side-note : maybe you're already aware of it, but be careful with non-ascii characters inside regexes, I've had bad experience with them.

    I think it's mostly in the case where the .tra file is utf-8, all characters above the 127 first ones (so, non-ascii) are actually two byte and I... guess? that weidu processes regexes as byte strings.. maybe?

    So for example the " "(nb sp) in a regex won't consistently match the same character.

    (For this reason, I tend to use f.example things like ~Avantages[^:]*:~)

    But I can't even say in what cases inserting these characters will or won't work :( (so I just always need to test... which is not a bad idea anyway :D)

    No, I wasn't aware of it.

    Unfortunately, I'm really lame with regex, I use them a bit, for investigation purposes, but I will not be confident enough to write anything from scratch.

    And I'm unable to install SCS v35 in French yet. Unlike v34, lots of errors, something is broken in the translation for now. Can't test it, currently using the English language for context finding in NI.

    For this reason, if you want to make any improvements to it and test them, I can share with you the translated files. You'll be welcome.

  3. Question about "...\stratagems\iwdspells\lang\french\dw_iwdspells.tra:

    - @222 = ~Inconvénients :\|Désavantages :\|Désavantages :~ // must match appropriate string from kit descriptions

    // bg1ee/bg2ee -> "Inconvénients :" <- this is a non-breakable space
    // obg2 -> "Désavantages :" <- this is an ascii space
    // correctfrbg1ee/correctfrbg2ee -> "Désavantages :" <- this is a non-breakable space

    Can I add the bold part?

    Question about "...\stratagems\lua\lang\french\sfo_lua.tra:

    @100="Temps d'incantation :\|Temps d'incantation :" // should exactly match appropriate header in spell descriptions
    @101="Sphère :\|Sphère :" // should exactly match appropriate header in spell descriptions

    @120="Avantages :\|Avantages :" // must exactly match string from kit descriptions

    @100010="Un sort supplémentaire par niveau d'expérience.\|Un sort supplémentaire par niveau." // must be, verbatim, the string used in the description of specialists (e.g., BG2EE string 9564).

    @100020="Avantages :\|Avantages :" // ,must be, verbatim, the appropriate string from class/kit descriptions

    Can I add all the bold parts? For the same reasons, non-breakable space & ascii space.

    @100015="from the LISTNAME school"

    LISTNAME is the list of the different magical schools (SCHOOL_PLACEHOLDER), right? And WHAT is FROM ? Spell ? Could this be plural, both the spells and the schools?

    @100015="(spell(s?)?) from the LISTNAME school(s?)"

    "From" in French (depending on the context) can be singular or plural AND gendered! Yeah... :D

  4. Hey,

    Just a quick question, does "...\stratagems\lua\lang\english\sfo_lua.tra" need to be translated?

    Any other place beside "...\stratagems\iwdspells\lang\english\dw_iwdspells.tra" and the usual "...stratagems\lang\english\xxx.tra" that contains files to be translated?

    @Jazira, @9800 uses no SSWORDxx.wav file because it seems there is not the right one ("We got a gusher!") available. The one you mention ([SSWORD33]) is a duplicate of [SSWORD71]: "Ooo, throw a coin in that fountain! Hahahahaha!"

    Strange, [SSWORD33] (@9800) and [SSWORD71] (@6442) both exist in French BG2 vanilla, and are not the same at all.

    Who knows...

    @9800  = ~Ah ! Haha, voilà qui me convient !~ [SSWORD33]

    @6442  = ~On va voir ça, tout de suite !~ [SSWORD71]

    Yeah, the French translated dubbing is often terrible, especially Lilarcor's one. But why [SSWORD33] was added in French only is a mystery.

    This is text of Edwin/woman... sounds cannot be used...

    Yeah, my bad, I haven't checked EDWINP.DLG beyond the name of it. I'm just reporting changes made by the team.

    It's effectively the equivalent of @48541, @48546 and @48547 but for Edwina.

    But I may have a solution, replace them with existing Edwina audio files, at least it work with French.

    @61534  = ~What is it now?!... So you want me back, do you?~ [EDWINW22]

    @61537  = ~Leave me be! I'm glad to finally be rid of you idiots.~ [EDWINW21]

    @61538  = ~You are doing nothing for my morale, you know. Wasteful behavior and leaving me like this. Is this to be it, then? (Only a true fool would not realize my importance.)~ [EDWINW04]

    Maybe some other audio file will fit even better in English.

    Another solution could be AI voice cloning, RVC, Elevenlabs, etc. You can create faithful models pretty effectively in English. Unfortunately this is not the case for other languages yet, at least in French, which is rather disappointing.

    Oh, and you forgot to mention @9800  [SSWORD33], is it already in BG2 vanilla? If so, why did Beamdog delete it for the EE?

  7. Hi again...

    Thanks to @lefreut help and his script, I've been able to compare all the audio files differences between the French* and the English localizations. And I'm here to share the result with you, most of the early matches are not very interesting, since they came from inherited BG1 audio files, but the later ones have a few interesting bits that you might find useful.

    Oh, and be aware that this comparison was made with the EE games, so... it might have some inconsistencies with vanilla.

  8. Thanks @skellytz for the report, we'll also include the French equivalent in the French localization correction mod (CorrectfrBG2EE). :)

    @Salk, is there any readme listing all the changes made? It could be also very interesting to us, especially the errors that cannot be categorized as typos. Both for BG1 & BG2.

    But, why can't your work be integrated directly to the EEFixpack? Is it a personal choice? edit: nevermind, it's for BG2 classic.

    A lot of the named Staves are straight from PnP (at least in name, not so much in function), where they are listed along with Rods and Wands, none of which list an enchantment level in their name.

    Oh, that could explain why. :)

    So, hypothetically, if you guys were to set some enchantment level for the Staff of the Magi, what would it be? Staff of the Magi +5? Maybe less, if we follow the logic of The Uncursed Staff +1? Or just Staff of the Magi +1?

  10. Thanks for taking the time for this explanation. :)

    It's a bit disturbing, again I'm not calling for changing everything, this topic is meant to bring knowledge and is not directly linked with the EEFixpack. But it seems that these rules apply to some but not all objects (especially weapons). Some feel arbitrary but developers have to make a choice, at the end. Anyway it doesn't sound like a clear consensus that can be applied anywhere without any eventual problems.

    And... I still can't figure out why the Staff of the Magi, for example, doesn't have any enchantment level shown in its name.

    I'd be interested in the answer myself.

    I anted to move the topic out of EE Fixpack but I'm not sure where to. 🤔

    Yeah, we've been talking about it yesterday, @lefreut, @Mera, @rivvers and I, and it became clear that each of us had slightly different points of view about it.

    Sorry if it's not the right place to ask. I wished to ask from the EE perspective, because some vanilla enchantment levels got changed since then.

    As long as we get some clear answers, feel free to move this topic wherever you want. ;)

  12. Hello there,

    I have a few questions regarding item enchantment level (+1, +2, etc.) because I can't understand the logic beneath this subject, or at least identify a clear consensus among all the items.

    What exactly determines the "+X" after the name of an object for EACH category of items ? I counted, I guess, 4-5 different types of item categories.

    For melee weapons? Is it the THAC0, the bonus damage, or the protection against magical weapons levels it can reach?

    Why does the Staff of the Magi, for example, do not have any enchantment level in its name?

    For ranged weapons? My guess is the munitions themselves determine the protection levels against magical weapons they can reach, and for the weapon itself it's the THAC0, right?

    For munitions (arrows,  bolts, etc.)? THACO, damage, protection levels against magical weapons they can reach?

    For armors and shields? By AC?

    All the other items (rings, cloaks, bracers, etc.)? It seems like only the non-cumulative ones with armors and shields AC got some distinctions, all the rest seem to not be covered by it and do not show any "+X" in their names.

    Any special case, exception?

    @Jazira this looks very good! I already removed the "further" from the @1012 in my last commit.

    (And have no idea what will happen if we merge the different changes.)

    Yes, I know it. It's for the Russian translation, since I can't read it. Deratiseur gave me the green light, I'm just waiting for Arkie's one for the PR.

    Don't worry about the merge, I already included your last commits before committing mine. ;)

  14. Hey @jastey, I've made a commit to update the French translation to the 5.0 standard (credits: Deratiseur & Jazira), I'm just waiting for @deratiseur green light to launch the PR. I also corrected a few English typos (with the same in Italian version, 5.0 stuff are still in English).

    I also further corrected the Russian, Italian (still in English) and English Wostok's hammer item to be on the same standard as the German version. @Arkie , could you take a look at the Russian part and tell me if everything is alright? Especially this part for @1012 (setup-AC_QUEST.tra and setup-AC_QUEST_ee.tra): "Cespenar improved the weapon further so it does more damage."

    "Further" need to be removed for @1012 since this particular version only got improved once.

  15. Hey there,

    Here's another batch of strings fixes:

    BG1EE:

    It should be "Shandalar", not "Shandelar".

    @4783  = ~[HELSHARA 2] Only a fool would goad a daughter of Shandalar so!~ [HELSH02]

    The audio file associated should be "[SURGN03]", not "[STORE05]".

    @12433 = ~[THE SURGEON 3]~ [SURGN03]

    The audio file associated should be "[SURGN04]", not "[STORE06]".

    @12434 = ~[THE SURGEON 4]~ [SURGN04]

    BG2EE:

    It should be "southeast", not "south".

    @11195  = ~Take them to the Fairy Queen who lives in the southeast end of the Windspear Hills. This will be our deliverance from this... this Irenicus and his dungeon!~

    It should be "southeast", not "south".

    @11354  = ~Thank you! You must take the acorns and deliver them to the Fairy Queen in the southeast end of the Windspear Hills.~

    It should be "southeast", not "south".

    @11381  = ~If you take the acorns to the Fairy Queen, then she can regrow our trees and free us! She lives in the southeast end of the Windspear Hills! Will you do this for us?~

    It should be "Soldier", not "Soldiers".

    @11488  = ~Tombelthen Soldier~

    It should be "Soldier", not "Soldiers".

    @11489  = ~Tombelthen Soldier~

    Not used IG, but at least it will be synchronized with BG1EE. The audio file associated should be "[SURGN03]", not "[STORE05]".

    @12433 = ~[THE SURGEON 3]~ [SURGN03]

    Not used IG, but at least it will be synchronized with BG1EE. The audio file associated should be "[SURGN04]", not "[STORE06]".

    @12434 = ~[THE SURGEON 4]~ [SURGN04]

    It should be "who lives in the southeast end of the Windspear Hills", not "who lives northeast of the human settlement called Trademeet".

    @17759  = ~You have done a noble thing for us. Please take these acorns to the Fairy Queen who lives in the southeast end of the Windspear Hills, just northeast of the human settlement called Trademeet.~

    It should be "southeast", not "south".

    @17774  = ~You have done a noble thing for us. Please take these acorns to the Fairy Queen who lives in the southeast end of the Windspear Hills.~

    It should be "southeast", not "south".

    @17788  = ~You have done a noble thing for us. Please take these acorns to the Fairy Queen who lives in the southeast end of the Windspear Hills.~

    It should be "duergar", not "dwarf". Since he's never been called so that way.

    @34092  = ~Helping Irenicus's captive dryads

    I have agreed to help a trio of dryads return their acorns to the Fairy Queen. Somewhere in the dungeon is a duergar by the name of Ilyich who has the acorns.~

    Feel free to criticize, since English isn't my native language. I'll edit the commit if needed, no problem.
