  1. Hi,

    It's a question I was asking to myself for months now, if not years.

    I just want to know if there is a way to find the context (the main dialogue) of orphan states in Near Infinity. Or do they don't make appearance in game even once?

    Here are a few examples of said orphan states:

    @9855   = ~Don't fluster yourself with lurid daydreams, <CHARNAME>. ~

    @9859   = ~With that attitude, nothing will ever occur to strike your passion, you brash fool.~

    While correcting the French translation of BG2EE I've already encountered a few of those. But without any context, proofread means shit.

    Thanks. :)

  2. Hi,

    I discovered a few mistakes in the original English version while working on the French translation of BG2EE (https://github.com/r-e-d/correctfrBG2EE), there was also a wrong token used but I believe Lefreut already have reported it here (<PRO_CHARNAME>). I have launched a pull request on the main repo. :)

    6511, 7417 and 7421 are about the murder of the Order knights "disguised" as ogres (Ajantis, etc.), Garren cabin is south of the battlefield, not north.

    7148 is about the drow summoning ritual, Ardulace will offer the fake eggs to the demon, not the dragon.

    @6511 = ~I do believe that you are correct. We should make our way there now. He said that it was just south of the battlefield, did he not?~

    /*

    */
    @7148   = ~The drow summoning ritual

    Phaere has told me of Ardulace's plan in its entirety. The drow intend to invade the surface... to what end, I don't know. But Matron Ardulace's ritual is going to summon a great demon to aid the drow. The dragon eggs will be sacrificed to the demon in return for its service, and this will place House Despana in great favor with Lolth.

    Phaere intends to betray Matron Ardulace and has coerced me into helping her. She wants me to go to the Despana treasury (in Lolth's temple) and replace the silver dragon's eggs with fake eggs that Phaere has had made. Then when Ardulace offers the demon the fake eggs, Phaere can step in with the real ones.

    I must be careful if I go to the treasury... killing the guards, if it is done, must be done discreetly if at all. And even once I get the eggs, the city has been sealed by Matron Ardulace... there is no escaping. I must continue to play along... for now.~

    @7421 = ~Aye, south of the battlefield as he had said. You make the correct choice, <CHARNAME>.~

  3. Alright... Yep, I've got a twisted mind.

    This is the original French translation:

    @8651 = ~Tu es un sacré comique, Jansen. Quel dommage que tu sois si petit, étant donné que tu es de la jaquette, l'humour noir pourrait gagner mon affection.~

    @15362 = ~Je n'ai pas l'intention d'assister à tes ébats avec le boute-joie d'un autre, Viconia.~

    This is the same French translation through Deepl:

    V: You're quite a comedian, Jansen. What a pity you're so short, considering you're from the dust jacket (very old expression for being gay), dark humor could win my affection.

    J: I have no intention of witnessing your lovemaking with someone else's cock, Viconia.

    Now you can get why we need to proofread the whole game.

    Thank you Camdawg!

  4. Hi,

    Since the French community decided to proofread the whole translation of oBG2 & BG2EE (https://github.com/r-e-d/correctfrBG2EE), we need some help to understand/proofread/translate these lines. (Since the original translation is very, very poorly done...)

    These lines are from oBG2, a banter between Viconia and Jan:

    Viconia: @8651 = ~You're quite the entertainer, Jansen. 'Tis a shame you're so short, since your bent, sinister humors could sway my affections.~

    Jan: @15362 = ~I'd not venture visiting your pleasures with the tool of another fellow, Viconia.~

    My guess is that Jan is playing with the word "bent", which could mean gay/homosexual, right? So, Jan implies that he will not gangbang Viconia with his gay friends?

    Or do I have a twisted, fucked up mind?

    Feel free to rephrase these lines for a 5 year old.

  5. I'm a bit out of context, but I come here to say that I like monkeys. Very much! (In fact, I'm using a monkey picture in my socials networks)

    To me (non US), human looking monkeys are not cringe nor racist. But again, it depends on the context.

    Banksy's monkeys drawings can't be told to be racist, Michelle Obama caricature drawing are.

    I'll add that in western Europe, evolution theory is very mainstream, it might have some influence on the perception.

    - French traduction of the paw token for the Improved Shapeshifting component is not up to date. The one for the werewolf form have incorrect base AC (1 instead of 0) in the description.

    The typo seems to be present in english too, language from where this translation come from.

    @13141 = ~This token enables the shapeshifter druid who created it to shapeshift at will into a werewolf. While in that form, the druid is unable to speak or cast spells, but gains the prodigious strength and speed of the werewolf. Unlike a true werewolf, however, the druid is still affected by nonmagical weapons.

Lorsqu'il est sous cette forme, le druide est incapable de parler ou de lancer des sortilèges, mais gagne la force et la vitesse prodigieuses du loup-garou. Cependant, contrairement à un vrai loup-garou, le druide est toujours affecté par les armes non magiques.

  7. From BG2:EE

    Quote

    @14409  = ~Oh, excuse me. A pearl to you and a good day.~

    @16044  = ~Well met, <GABBER>, and a pearl to you. Feel free to peruse my goods and ask questions, naturally.~

    @22409  = ~Well met, <GABBER>, and a pearl to you. My poor business likely has little to offer you, but you are free to look around, if you wish.~

    @38848  = ~Greetings, good customer. A pearl to you.~ [FEMER01]

    @45151  = ~Very well. A pearl to you, <SIRMAAM>.~

    @61435  = ~Greetings. A pearl to you, <LADYLORD> <GABBER>.~

    @61679  = ~A pearl to you.~ [PEASF302]

    What does it mean exactly? I'm unable to find any explanation with google so I need some help.

    In every context it sounds like a "welcome" or "good luck". "I wish you fortune", perhaps?

    Thanks. :)

    A few components were added and a few more combined, so overall there's a bit of new stuff in weidu.tra.

    Thanks.

    I've launched a PR with the updated French translation for v10. I took the opportunity to clean up all the deprecated comment and uniformize the format.

    Furthermore, I also fixed a wrong (commented) Strref in the English translation, and a small logical change for Nalia's ring.

    edit: and thank you for the effort made to facilitate the life of translators ;)

  9. Cheers to Le Marquis, and the others, of course ! But this guy did most of the job by himself. And it is not a small mod...

    In addition, I have to admit that this mod (and the lack of French translation by the time) was the reason I started to contribute to IE mods and their translations. So... thanks for making it. :)

    Feel good to finally see it completed.

  10. I fell in love the first time I saw this portrait. But damn, I don't get why the author added so much dirt or whatever this is (ugly tattoos/scars, war or cultural paintings, bruises, etc.?)... Being colorblind doesn't help either.

    Now at least it's more obvious, war/cultural paint and just the right amount of dirt/bruise that every adventurer worth his salt carries with them.

    + 2 Charisma!

    Later, I'm going back to mud wrestling!

  11. I'm all for a centralized list. What @subtledoctor said about @AL|EN metadata is a great idea, imo.

    And I'll be glad to contribute and help maintain it.

    Maybe this could be of some help, in addition of @Cahir's list : https://github.com/Jazira33/CCTradFR / https://www.baldursgateworld.fr/lacouronne/la-chambre-des-scribes/32456-etat-de-traduction-des-mods-mis-jour.html

    The purpose of this is mainly to track French translations, it's not 100% done (and I'm affraid it never will...) but the data is here. Not as helpfull as Cahir list, but it can fill some blank spot.

    Out of interest, how did the vanilla and EE versions come to have different translations?

    Long story short Beamdog and Mogi Group.

    Beamdog hired a company, Mogi Group, to translate the new content of the EE. This company thought it was a good idea to modify nearly every sentence of the vanilla texts. This company thought it was a good idea to change nearly every character's affinity toward Charname (tutoiement/vouvoiement), some proper nouns, etc.

    edit : Because Beamdog didn't have the legal copyrights to use the French vanilla translation at the first place. So Mogi Group copy/pasted the vanilla translation, and they putted arbitrary changes in it to call it their own.

    But in a way, it's for the better, I suppose, it forced us to react, we already fixed tens of thousands things on both vanilla & EE translation fusion in our unofficial community driven project. None of those translations were perfect anyway.

    edit : I made a mistake, I was talking about BG2/EE and not IWD/EE.
