  1. I'd like to see an additional parameter added to the item and location lists files which is simply a percentage chance of including (or excluding) the given line item/location.

This should be doable (albeit not entirely straightforward) under the condition that Ident-coupling remains. If item ABC has a 100 % chance of being included and location ABC has a 50 % chance of being included, item ABC will be excluded whenever location ABC is, regardless of the item's own inclusion chance.

Edit: for items excluded means the item is not randomised if it already exists in the game, or that the item is not added, if the item were to be added without being taken from somewhere. For locations, excluded means it will not be a location where random items can show up and that it will retain its original item if there is one (as determined by Ident).

  2. The good news is that the crash can be fixed. The bad news is that getting the scripting to work right requires more effort that I'm willing to put into it (if there's even a reliable solution to be found). I'll be disabling the randomisation of the CON manual on original BG1.

  3. It seems with Randomiser installed, entering the golem cave near on the siren coast causes the game to hang with a return to desktop (not a crash, game is still running but unresponsive). Not sure if this is related to a specific component of mod.

Putting random items into Safana's quest uses an invisible creature to do stuff. Something about this creature is making BG1 crash, probably because the creature is BG2 in some way. I should be able to get around this bug by creating the creature from local files instead of using a pre-generated one. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this might also have been the real reason I couldn't get mode 1 to not crash BG1 back in the day.
  4. The version dated 151017 fixes an issue involving the BG1 engine. Randomised scrolls could be bought for cheap. This issue did not affect Tutu, BGT and other flavours of the BG2 engine. Re-installing with 151017 will not break saved games but will not fix scroll costs in stores you've already been to.

  5. The version dated 140720 disables the Polish translation, which was non-functional anyway. I'm disabling it rather than making it functional, because over the years the coverage of the translation has decreased and were I to install a Polish translation I would not expect 9 out of 10 new or altered strings to be in English. The translation will be re-enabled as soon as it is updated.

  6. The file "compile/g3mrsgtu.baf" fails to compile on BGII: EE because it contains the line

    Face("G3Drini")

    Presumably you want FaceObject() instead.

It does not fail on other platforms because WeiDU does not try to look up the argument in an IDS file other than on the EEs, but the action has probably never produced the desired result.

  7. O.k. so we've up and running - but I can confirm the scroll issue - we have only got to the Friendly Arm in and we are Awash with scrolls - the mage had 7, the hobgoblins have some and the chests contain them

    I suspect it is fine.

Tarnesh has 4 scrolls and Item Randomiser gives him a few more. On second thought, he probably should not receive level 2 scrolls, so I'll remove him from that tier (which means at least one less scroll). Considering the 4 scrolls he normally has, perhaps he should also receive fewer level 1 scrolls.

Normal Hobgoblins are not touched by Item Randomiser. The game has its own rudimentary random-item system, which includes common scrolls among its possible rewards. Hobgoblins are beneficiaries, so you may find scrolls on them. Chests commonly contain minor scrolls, as well.

  8. 1) Does item randomiser work multi-player? I can easily see it not working! If it does work would you install it on both computers as usual?

Yes with an if or no with a but. If both games are identical, they can multi-player together. Possibly BGII: EE lifts this restriction, I don't know. You can get Item Randomiser to install identically, or you can install your mods on one game and copy the game to the second computer. To install item Randomiser identically on a second computer, ensure that you have exactly the same mods and components installed on both. Install Item Randomiser on computer A. Copy the three files fl#randomseed.2da, fl#removeditems.2da and fl#randoptions.2da from the override directory of computer A to the override directory of computer B. Install Item Randomiser on computer B and choose to preserve saved-game compatibility (it'll ask during installation).

    2) Has the issue mentioned above (with the very high amount of wands turning up) been changed in the Dev version?

Not yet. It did not go into the last update because this change prevents upgrading and I haven't gotten around to doing another update.

  9. Interesting point about Zhalimar, but arent you a bit incosistent then? zhalimar-suryris blade,basilus-ashideena on the other hand koshi-celestial fury,zal-bracers of archery etc etc. :) :)

No, there has not been a consistent policy in dealing with equipped items. Equipped items are have mostly been randomised when they are notable and easily available, or when they are notable and/or some sort of replacement item can be arranged. Suryris' Blade is perhaps notable, but it is not easily available, and it's hard to arrange a replacement item without simply swapping it for a generic +1 halberd, so randomising it has not been a priority.

  10. 1. I dont have a problem with optional fights because I havent played BG 1 before. On the other hand, giving two 28 tier items to Iron Throne mercenaries in Undercity is somewhat ridiculous - what is the point of getting these items at the end of the game?

I suppose you are right. I'll look into moving those locations elsewhere.

    2. Halberd +2 "Suryris blade" is not randomized - you could consider it ...

Zhalimar uses the weapon, which always makes me a bit wary of moving it. However, I suppose I'm more cavalier about such things today than I were originally. Maybe it can be moved without upsetting the balance of the battle too much, but it might be exclusive to mode 2.

    3. some additional thoughts - move Ulcaster location down to 27 or even 26 tier, with proper "tactics" it is possible to get one nifty item right from start and either move assasins in Cloakwood mines of Taugosz Khosann higher in the order - especialy former is a very tough fight imho ... :)

I'll consider it. Thank you for your feedback.

  11. I just finished BG1 part. I have a suggestion - can higher-tier items be distributed to the places that a player is less likely to miss?

My concern is this - when playing without randomizer, I generally know where to find items (or can look in a guide). When playing with it, I cannot. By the end of BG1, I discovered that I'm missing a tome of dexterity. I went throughout the spoilers and the locations and found it in Sunin's home. I actually killed Sunin before, but didn't bother to loot his house, only his body. I like to play knowing I'm going to find the items sooner or later, but thorough looting is too tedious.

I'm torn. On one hand, I'm not unsympathetic. On the other, I would imagine there are people who like finding loot in e.g., the Silvershield estate. More pragmatically, I don't think I could remove these out-of-the-way locations without either randomising fewer items or stacking higher piles of loot onto the remaining locations.

There was someone else who requested that random loot not be given to optional fights. I guess I could combine this with that, for some sort of "streamlined" option that would probably randomise fewer items (the more notable ones) and limit itself to surer locations. There is, of course, some subjectivity in what's a sure location, but that could perhaps be fine-tuned over time.

  12. And I got 2 bastard swords +1,+3 vs shapeshifters.

Yes, there are two copies of that sword in BG1. Item Randomiser is supposed to delete the copy in Ulgoth's Beard, but I see the code can potentially fail to do so under some circumstances. Can you tell me what platform you are on (BGT or Tutu, etc.) and post the contents of your weidu.log, please?

  13. The version dated 140101 fixes a rare bug that could result in unobtainable items.

It is safe to upgrade from earlier versions but bugs you have already encountered will not be retroactively fixed.

Edit: the archive has been updated to include WeiDU. The OS X version is 64-bit, built on OS X Mavericks. Other OS X builds of WeiDU are available at weidu.org.
