    IceWind Dale 2

If the IESDP guide is anything to go by, IWD2 file formats seem to be less understood than BG2, hence the GemRB version may suffer from that. The Wizard takes a level of Paladin and then can't use Mage scrolls. Improved Invisibility is one of the spells that is not working, Orcs can see right through it. Shaengarne Dam, this time I knocked down the supports going from right to left, everything worked normally. Now, we are at the very tricky Shaengarne Bridge. In Icewind Gate 2, played with the IWD2 engine, See Invisibility did not work at all. Original game had a flaw or it was IWG2. Invisibility Sphere made the bridge a relatively easy event.

Drink Potion: Oil of Fiery Burning?! Shaengarne area: Malarites stand around while the party kills their friends. Shaengarne Dam, knocking down two of the three supports was enough to collapse dam?! Graphics don't update in the middle. Nor does the area map, this may be a feature of the original game. Druid takes a level of Ranger then can't cast Druid spells. About half of the features of the game are actually implemented. Edit: Some of these problems may be transient, Druid -> Ranger spell casting glitch was not found on a previous save game...

Monsters are frequently placed with several on the one spot. Fireball range is too short. Sorceror spells are being treated like Wizard spells when it comes to figuring out how many are left for a given level.

I re-started the game with a party I designed, that I actually wanted. Party has just arrived at Shaengarne Ford, so far so good. Gedlee's Electric Loop targets the caster not the enemy.

Using Parties created in Gem, has two problems: Spellbooks are still dysfunctional, you can't memorize initial spells. You can't set the Action buttons. One approach, create PCs in IWD2. Game starts normally, party memorizes spells and rests. Customize Action Buttons, F6 through F8. Then export them to Chr files, I choose catchy names like "grchar1, grchar2, grchar3, grchar4, grchar5 and grchar6". Then I go into Party.ini and change Char1 = llchar1 Char2 = llchar2 Char3 = llchar3 Char4 = llchar4 Char5 = llchar5 Char6 = llchar6 to: Char1 = grchar1 Char2 = grchar2 Char3 = grchar3 Char4 = grchar4 Char5 = grchar5 Char6 = grchar6 Then I select the Lady's Lament party, my own party then loads instead of them I need to have the game start in IWD2 because I need an IWD2 party as a benchmark to show what alterations I need to make to each PC whenever he/she is able to level up.

My Cache is never cleaned out, for whatever reason. While the Wizard is unable to gain higher level spells I will dual class him to a Paladin. New party line-up Aasimar LG Paladin (Helm) Gold Dwarf NG Cleric (Tempus) Human NG Rogue/Barbarian/Ranger Half - Elf NG Druid Wild Elf LG Sorceror Moon Elf LG Wizard Human NG Rogue/Barbarian/Ranger: takes levels in the ratio 2 Rogue, 1 Barbarian and 1 Ranger.

Garrad Cre file has a script 11GARRAD.BCS, but there is no such script. So I created that script as a copy of 11GARRA0.BCS, so far so good. He can be created but he does not turn into a Doppleganger, he remains sedentary Garradun. Failure of people to appear was an irritant in the Gem version of BG2. There may be a systematic problem there. Letters quest can be completed though. Yes, both Dereth and Sabrina were saved. Clean out the Cache, reload the Quick Save and return to AR2000. Both of them are standing outside the hut. (They will be standing there, out in the snow, 24 hours every day, this is IWD2 after all.) (Have achieved level 9 and still can't find any 4th or 5th level scrolls for my Wizard?!)

Doppleganger, won't appear until Garradun is exposed as one of them. Problem is that Garradun is nowhere to be found. I can try to create him, 11Garrad.cre. I seem to recall her selling Mage scrolls, the Dave Millward IWD2 Walkthrough says the same thing. "9) Go back to Dereth’s house and talk to him. More XP, and he’ll also give you a Scimitar +1 as a reward. Sabrina will now also sell 1st to 3rd level arcane spell scrolls." I don't see these two anywhere, maybe I will need to create them?

A few problems: Temple Pavilion, AR1103 Doppleganger not showing up. Even when I use CreateCreature and he shows up, he can't be seen. Sure can attack though. See Invisibility does not work. Garradun can't be found either. Shaengarne Ford, AR2000 Dereth’s house remains an information trigger only.

GemRB Wiki To Do page says "status from chapter 2 onwards unknown!" So far IWD2 on Gem seems functional enough.

This is the latest save game, it is from AR2000 Shaengarne Ford. If you want to check out Chapter 2, you can fast track your party there, just use Ctrl + Y every time something hostile shows up. (Edit: latest save game will now be found at the first post in this topic.)

The Gem console, forgot about that. Now the party has made it to the Shaengarne Ford, Orcs are tougher than Goblins... Edit: Levelling up will still be done by DaleKeeper2 and Near Infinity. In DK2 or NI you can compare the save game from the original IWD2 with the save from Gem, this avoids clerical errors. It is all basically just point and click. Also, I know of no way of automating the process in Gem, no batch files or whatever.

I am not actually the world's greatest programmer and I have never tried any work in Python. Also the code is far larger than anything I have ever worked with in C++, I would not know where to find stuff. I will keep using DaleKeeper2 and Near Infinity.

    IceWind Dale 2

Most of the levelling up will be done by DaleKeeper2. However it won't properly handle the spell slots, that aspect needs to be done in Near Infinity. Ditto Quick Spell buttons. Spellbook display updates haphazardly when you switch spell level or PC. Spontaneous Casting does not work ever. Apart from that it is playing smoothly. Have finished with Targos, now it is off to Shaengarne Bridge.
  15. If Gem really takes off, you might have the mod available as an option in Gem. You might be able to choose which rules you play a game under. (I have not played the original IWD1 or the conversion mod you mention. I have the game, I just never got around to playing it.)
  16. IWD for BG2 is another thing that comes to mind. Gem could be a mod to end all mods...

    Third Edition IE

If IWD2 can be made to run normally on Gem, then the four Second Edition IE games (BG1, BG2, IWD1 and Planescape) can be played under 3E rules and thus given a new lease on life. There is already Icewind Gate 2, existing in both Beta and Delta versions. It is viable but it can't use a lot of the functions of the original BG2 because they don't exist in the original IWD2. Icewind Gate is a conversion of the original IWD2 game, for information about it see: http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55387

I am not an expert on the Infinity Engine. Though pressing the Spellbook button works okay. Now onto the main battle at the Targos Palisades.

    IceWind Dale 2

One approach to levelling up is to do it in the original game then see what the resulting stats are. Then copy these stats into the GemRB Gam save game file using DaleKeeper2. This has worked in practice. One problem that needs fixing is creation of memorization slots for level 2 spells. Near Infinity should be helpful here. Cleared the Docks and the area below the Warehouse, now it is off to the Palisades. Letter S causes a crash every time it is pressed, just as well the Spellbook button works okay. Party line-up is: The Watcher ,Lawful Good, Male, Aasimar, Paladin of Helm Harbesh Carver ,True Neutral, Male, Shield Dwarf, Rogue Alia Shield-Maiden ,True Neutral, Female, Shield Dwarf, Cleric - Battleguard of Tempus Tianya ,Neutral Good, Female, Half-elf, Druid Mordakai of Thay ,Lawful Neutral, Male, Human, Sorcerer Dalwynd Meadsbreath ,Chaotic Good, Male, Lightfoot Halfling Originally the Wizard was Mirai Wainwright (Chaotic Neutral, Female, Half-elf, Wizard), however she could not actually cast any spells, as I realized after doing half of AR1000, I started all over again. So far everything is going alright. The problem with levelling up will have to be resolved with DaleKeeper2. Edit: I was able to manually calculate new skills and whatnot, then enter the results into DaleKeeper2. Seemed to work out ok.

I have finally assembled a new party from the pregenerated PCs. I renamed their Chr and Res files to make them all members of the White Rose band. "Git" version what is that, anything recent? I am currently using GemRB-win32-v0.7.2-839-ga7c26b8

Can't find the text that gives a description for each pregen party. Level up can be mimicked with DaleKeeper2 I suppose, for the time being. Ditto you can alter a save file with Near Infinty. Couldn't find the text that gives a description for each pregen party, it is in Party.ini, all in plain text of course. Now I can see which PCs I want, then alter their file names so they all occur in the same party.

    IceWind Dale 2

What is the status of Icewind Dale 2 on GemRB? I have IWD2 installed on my PC so I can see how it goes. A Python tamer I am not, I know some basic C++ and that is about it. At the party creation screen, choosing a New Party, created by yourself, leads to the creation of a party where no caster has any spellbooks?!? Everyone starts off down five hit points. I will have to use one of the pregenerated parties, mumble grumble, at least they work. None of them are really to my taste. Edit, Monday 15 July 2013: Latest save game will now be uploaded to here. Currently party is at AR4102. Latest party line up is: The Watcher, Aasimar LG Paladin (Helm) Alia Shield-Maiden, Gold Dwarf TN Cleric (Tempus) Harbesh Carver, Human NG Rogue/Ranger Tianya, Ghostwise Halfling NG Cleric (Lathander) Amraith, Wild Elf LG Sorceror Mirai, Moon Elf NG 10 Wizard/20 Druid, or 12Wizard/18Druid Human NG Rogue/Ranger: takes levels in the ratio 1 Rogue and 1 Ranger. Here the Druid loads up with offensive spells only. Healing is handled by the two Clerics. 000000001-Quick-SaveAR4102.zip
  24. You can have separate gemrb.cfg files, one for each game. Each file has an appropriate prefix, Game Type [string]: bg1gemrb.cfg bg2gemrb.cfg iwdgemrb.cfg howgemrb.cfg iwd2gemrb.cfg pstgemrb.cfg There is only one such file in the main game directory at a time, this file tells GemRB what game is to be loaded, as is the case now. As they now have different names, unused cfg files can all be stored in the same "doc" sub-folder. To have Gem play a different IE game replace the gemrb.cfg file in the main directory with the cfg file for the game concerned. For example if you are playing BG2 and want to play IWD2 instead, just switch the two cfg files. Appropriate, generic, cfg files for each game can be shipped with GemRB. Player may need or want to update the information in a cfg file so it reflects his/her own installation.

    some bugs

Yes, it is BG2 - Throne of Bhaal. Version = GemRB-win32-v0.7.2-827-gff0c3f3 I might add that the game plays ok, it is just this endless message on the console that is the problem.
