Maybe he can contact Nightfarer? Apparently the translation is already done and he's waiting on someone else to proofread it:

    http://www.shsforums.net/topic/55277-translations-into-english-for-various-mods/page-10#entry574264

AFAIK both authors are inactive for years and not sure if there even a way to contact them at this point. They were also doing another, more ambitious mod, but they never finished it.

  2. Hi David,

Not sure if you accept feature requests for future versions (or even for release version), so if not, feel free to disregard this thread.

I'd like to request a couple of additions to subrace component:

    • Human subraces - not sure if the engine allows for that, but I would love to see human subraces (like Chondathans, Tethyrians, Calishites, etc.). I realise, in P&P, it's mostly flavour distinction, and I'm perfectly fine, it would be also just a flavour addition in ToF, but that would IMO add more immersion and role playing options.
    • Two new elven subraces - star elves and avariel. Here's the Wiki page about star elves, in case you're not familiar. As for avariel, I guess the presence of wings may be a problem in implementing them, but if it's possible, that would be a welcomed addition.

I don't expect SHS Forum to be up again for at least one more month. It would be a rather horrible thing, but Stray Gods won't be out until August.

In fact, seems Summerfall Studios related the release by a week (to 10th of August), to not overlap with updated PC release of BG3.

I would suggest moving the auto-generated files from Beamdog translation tool into separated files (i.e. gtu_bgee vs bd_tool_bgee). Then those files could be updated individually. GTU files - manually, BD tool - even automatically. Honestly, it would be easier to update small files for GTUs where changes are only added by a human. And after upstreaming these changes to BD tool, they could be simply removed from GTU files because they would be fetched from BD tool later.

So the flow would beinclude bd_tool translation files if exist and then load GTU files (frequently updated I assume) on top of those from BD tool. What do you think?

I can't help much from a technical point of view, but if this would make incorporating future translation updates easier, I'm totally fine with that. But in case of translation updates not done by original BGEE/BG2EE translation team members, or approved by them, I'd like such changes to be added via optional component (optional to "official" changes). There were some translation change suggestions in the past, that were discarded by our team for different reasons. Other than that, I'm totally OK with any solution you'll come up.

    • Thalantyr, being a conjurer specialist in canon, actually carries conjuration spells in his scroll selection.
    • Thalantyr's appearance is brought more in line with his canon description by giving him a Staff of Power.  (It's not possible to steal or loot this.)
    • Thalantyr's flesh golems are replaced by invisible stalkers, as by canon and how inappropriate creating flesh golems is for a neutral good character.
    • The Nashkell Inn is renamed "The Northern Light" as by canon.
    • The owner of said inn is a wizard named Ries Kensiddar, as by canon.  A few low-level scrolls are added to his inventory.
    • The Nashkell Store is renamed "Cloud Peaks Outfitters", as by canon.
    • The owner of said store is a halfling cleric named Salla Pitontoes, as by canon.
    • Berrun Ghastkill is changed to a human fighter, as by canon.
    • A few spells are given their correct creator's names: Storm's Spell Thrust, Alustriel's (Improved) Mantle, Symbul's Spell Sequencer/Trigger, Sylune's Absolute Immunity.  (I'm considering making this part optional.)

This is great. Something very similar was done by elminster in Eve of War mod, and this was one of my favourite features of that mod. I was always a sucker for canonical lore and each time I encountered bits of lore I knew from p&p, I felt like a kid in a candy store.

If I could suggest a couple of more features of this kind:

    • Allow Halbazzer Drin to cast Meteor Swarm (as per "Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast", p.219).
    • Give duke Eltan some of his canonical items - according to Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (TSR1085), p. 34, he possesses following items: greenstone amuletplate mail +2, displacer cloak +2, ring of absorption, ring of anti-venom, girdle of storm giant strength and gauntlets of ogre power. As for weapons, he wields a silver long sword +2, silver dagger +2 and neutral, telepathic short sword +1, called "Roan", who is his longtime friend. Roan can detect magic, invisible creatures, illusion, traps and know alignment, each once per day. It also automatically returns to Eltan if it leaves him. His most prized possession is, however, a hammer of thunderbolts, which he rarely uses. Now, I realize canonically he is loaded with magical items, but it would be fun to give him at least one or two most iconic items.
    • Scar - give him his canonical items: scimitar +2, six throwing axes, bracers of defense (AC2) and greenstone amulet. Also, his real name is Hurbold Duethkatha, which is a secret known only to his surviving youthful acquaintances in Waterdeep, as well as his friends Eltan and Moruene (Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (TSR1085), p. 35)
  6. Thank you for chiming in, @jastey. I confused myself with Kitanya, by using wrong site abbrevuation on my list, sorry. For now, I'm keeping it until told otherwise, since it's only EE compatible version, and the lists ar all about EE mods.

    16 minutes ago, jastey said:

They are on Nexusmods now. Links should be in teh SHS support topics. You find them in the Miscellaneous Released forum.

Ah, completely missed to check the original post, my bad. The reason I couldn't find them on Nexus is because those are listed in original Baldur's Gate section, not EE section, so I guess I'll need to study again which of those mods, are EE compatible. Thanks, anyway!

  7. A follow-up questions. Do you think any od the mods hosted on Nexus mods are worth including on the list? Most of the mods hosted there are portrait mods and I am hesitant to list them due to a potential copyright issues. Can anyone try assess if any of those mods are safe to list? The only mod hosted on Nexus that is present on my modlists is The Picture Standard, because it has (had?) its own site on SHS

Also, do anyone knows if ikonomov mods are available somewhere? They used to be hosted on SHS, but AFAIK ikonomov requested to pull them off and since I can't find them anywhere anymore, I had to remove them from my lists.

  8. As a separate point, question.

There are still three mods on the modlist where PaulaMigrate was involved (updated versions of other authors mods, usually with EE/EET compatibility). Now, I know PaulaMigrate is Roxanne's alias, who is notorious in updating others mods without their consent and even against their wishes at times, but in those cases I haven't seen any official EE compatible release or haven't dug out any conversation that lead me to believe those specific mods were updated against author wishes, so I kept them on the list for now. BUT, if anyone asks me to pull these mods from the list, because there is a legitimate concern, those mods are totally unofficial and unsanctioned versions that should not be shared, I'll pull them off. Just let me know. The mods in question are:

Saerlith (there is an official v19 on Chosen of Mystra alternate download site, but AFAIK, it's not EE compatible).

Dorn Romance Expansion - since this is on original author's github, I assume Paula Migrate was just a contributor and trinit approved this. I think this one is safe to stay. But let me know nevertheless.

Kitanya - this is an SHS mod, so I assume there is a chance Gwendolyne (or others) may prepare an updated official version of this mod in the future, but at the time there is no EE compatible version except PaulaMigrate's. Now, I have no clue if this is only a maintenance update, or she included additional unofficial content there. Please let me know, if this one should stay or out.

The same situation with some Roxanne mods (under her Roxanne alias). Please let me know, if those should be pulled out or are safe to stay.

  9. Ok, it took me a while, but I finally managed to update download links and cleaning up some not working links. The rule of thumb I followed is as follows:

    • Mods hosted on Github (GH) with Release page - link to download (Release) page
    • Mods hosted on Github (GH) without Release page - direct link to master version (you can still enter the mod page by clicking "Strona" on modlist page). I chose this approach, because finding a download button for master version is not obvious to anyone.
    • Mods hosted on The Gibberlings 3 (G3) - link to Download page
    • Mods hosted on Spellhold Studios (SHS) - link to the mod page (you can then click Download button to download the mod). I chose to link to mod page and not Download page, because some mods are downloaded directly after hitting Download page and others directs to one more page, with various mod versions. To avoid downloading the mod directly from my modlist, I thought this is the best compromise.
    • Mods hosted on Pocket Plane Mods (PPG) - link to the download (Release) page on PPG github. I did not check if mod versions on PPG site are up-to-date, so I chose to link only to PPG Github site. Since original links to PPG mod sites were not working anymore, I needed to correct all links. If someone wants to download directly from PPG site (not their github), you can still do it, entering through "Strona" link on my modlist, and finding download button there. But as I've said, I haven't checked if mod versions are up-to-date with github.
    • Mods hosted on Black Wyrm Lair (BWL) - direct download from the link on forum or link to mod site, from where one can download the mod. It's a bit of disorganized mess on BWL, so I chose an approach mod by mod. Some mods are linked to direct download location (i.e Jini romance), others to a mod page (i.e Drizzt Saga). In any you can enter to a mod page (via "Strona" link) or mod forum (via "Forum" button)
    • Mods hosted on thebaldursgatemode.com (a.k.a Chosen of Mystra) - since the site is down (possibly permanently), I relinked download links to direct download of the mod from alternate download sites: BG1 mods and BG2 mods. I chose this approach, because sometimes the name of mod is confusing, and it's hard to deduct what mod it actually is, without digging through the readme. Since the site is down, this is the only example, where you can download the mod directly from Children of Bhaal site *and* there is no separate link button to a mod site (because there is non-active at the moment) or mod forum. If anyone has any objections about this approach, I can relink downloads to BG1 and BG2 alternative locations, and users will need to find a mod themselves there. Just let me know.
    • Weasel Mods - links to a mod page and alternative Dropbox location. I relinked the dropbox download to a mod folder, instead of the last version directly. This will save me time from changing the link each time Lava releases a new version.
    • Beamdog forums - direct link to forum attachment. Majority of mods hosted on Beamdog forums are in the form of an attachment on the forum directly or leading to off-site location, like megashare, zippyshare etc. I chose a direct download approach, to save everybody's time of clicking through layers of different pages you are exposed on hosting sites. The separate link (via "Forum" button) leads to a mod forum, so anyone can read about a mod before downloading.
  10. Hey Cam, thank you very much for this amazing tool. I have tested it briefly on a clean BG2EE checking some Gameplay Options in game menu, where I know we changed some things after 2.6, and also checked some other lines in Near Infinity. Everything looks in order! 👋

  11. The Polish translation has undergone the same long verification process across all 3 games (BGEE/BG2EE and IWDEE), to unify the original translation of those 3 games, both in terms of lore and gameplay mechanics. Fortunately (mostly) the same team coordinated BGEE, BG2EE and IWDEE translations, so this process was pretty well coordinated from our side, and I think the end result is visible in the the games. We faced the dilemma, if we should unify Polish translation in such cases, if the English text is not unified, but we decided to go with it. We realised that those discrepancies were not the effect of conscious decision, but rather by the fact that at some point of development, different devs were writing the text and the text consistency was not set as a priority.

I know Beamdog already corrected a good part of such discrepancies, I still remember how many English lines were changed during development that we needed to catch up, but with so many things to correct they would need to dedicate one person to spent time only on this.

Anyway, I perfectly understand Jazira and if anything, EE Fixpack is the perfect place to get rid of those discrepancies, if possible.

If you can't see that the translation is not the problem but the fact that there is double standard...

The problem is that the translator did a traification which should be a modder's job. As said in this thread already, traification is done when modder feels there will be no new content, or if the content added will be limited and can be easily plugged in later, when new translations arrive.

But I guess there is no way of convincing you to anything at this point, unless until you calm down a little. If you want to feel angry at AionZ, that's your choice. It won't make this situation resolve to your favour, if anything, AionZ will be more adamant to not include your work at all. And if you want to convince everyone around that he is a bad guy here, well, good luck with that, you're doing a bang up job.

Sorry for sounding harsh, but you really don't make this situation coming any closer to a successful conclusion.

In addition of this thread I sent him a message on beamdog, to ask if the traification was appropriate and if he would like something to be done differently...

No answer, but he updated the mod yesterday, changing the file structure and making the translation already done useless !

I'd suggest trying to reach him on The Artisan's Corner discord. If he doesn't respond there, that means he doesn't want to. I think he mentioned there once or twice, that he doesn't want to traify his mods yet, because he is still working on them and changing things after traification is much more of a headache than it is now. It would have saved you some nerves.

Generally, as a fellow mod translator, I'd suggest translating mods that are not active development, or at least those that the majority of content is already written and their authors don't plan changing them substantially. This would save you a lot of headaches.

This is the major reason I haven't translated any of @subtledoctor's mods (I only proofread Scales of Balance). It's not because I think low of his mods, quite the opposite, it's because I know he does make a lot of changes often, with any of those changes involve adding or changing .tra lines. I want to save him and myself the additional stress of worrying to update translation before release. This is also the reason why I wait for some of @morpheus562the mods, to reach more or less final shape, before I consider starting to work on them. I have fallen into this trap once, with Monastic Orders of Faerun, where the author decided to redesign the whole mod, which would need me to translate it again from scratch. Just to be clear, I don't hold any grudge about that, mod authors have every right to do with their mods whatever they want. Some authors remember to give translators a heads-up about the new version release, even coordinating with them the .tra files update, others simply don't remember about that or simply relying on translators to keep track of new versions and monitor if translation is still up-to-date. All approaches are fine by me, as I've said these are their babies, and they can take care of them however they want.

    18 hours ago, JohnBob said:

I just learn to traify with this mod, sorry, I thought this community would encourage learning...

Learning is fine, it's just a shame you haven't waited for an answer. If the author doesn't respond, you can always ask here if someone knows where is the best place to reach him/her. As I've said, it would have saved you some nerves.

    19 hours ago, JohnBob said:

Translations take a lot of time and translators work as they can, just like the modders...

As a fellow translator, I sympathize, but I repeat what I wrote. Mods are the work of modders, and they can do with their mods whatever they want. It's a good practice to ask modders first, if they are willing to include translation in their mods beforehand. Granted, I haven't followed that rule always, but I'm usually fairly certain if an author/maintainer of a mod I want to translate will include it in the mod package. If I can reach an author, or he deliberately doesn't respond, it's like a red flag to me, to stop considering translation of said mod.
