  1. Hello everyone, I've done multiple forum searches and have tried to follow multiple guides and haven't had luck with subsequent Google searches. I hope I won't be adding any redundancies to the forum though I feel fairly confident that I won't be (at least I hope). To explain everything from the start and to provide background: I'm running Debian Buster (testing) and I have a decent-enough of a build to run BG:EE, BG2:EE, etc. I'm relatively compotent with a terminal so this process didn't seem too intimidating (and still doesn't—I feel like I'm missing some sort of obvious detail). The other relevant information follows: I initially began my process of installing mods from the Beamdog forums following the directions from this topic. I first installed the BGEE+SOD Modmerge tool which seemed to go-on without a hitch. I then began the process of installing the BG1NPC mod. I followed the directions from this page. I first installed the WeiDU files and copied them into my /usr/bin/ folder. After this, I began to run into issues. I've attached two screenshots to this topic and in subsequent paragraphs I will explain what I did leading up to the errors. Leading up to the errors, I extracted the contents of the folder into my BG:EE directory (/home/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition/). I then attempted to run the tolower command which came back with a relatively simple error stating the since I'm using the EE of the game, it would break the game if the command were to run so it quit. This made sense to me. My thought process was that the weinstall command would be the next step to take. Here is the error: The installer was unable to find dialog.tlk. In a few searches through the Beamdog forums, I found that some people would move dialog.tlk to the /home/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition/ directory and then move it back once the installer ran. I attempted this but the following error was returned: At this point, I found myself at a bit of a loss. In addition to this, the directions from the readme seem to indicate that one should use wine when booting the game? Is that requirement? Here's a screenshot of what I am referencing: Please let me know if I can clarify anything. Does anyone have any ideas about where to go from here or anything that I am missing? I've reverified the game in Steam so I'm ready to go at it again. Thanks all!
  2. I've been following the excellent guide corvias put together here: http://gibberlings3.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=28516 Everything goes smoothly up until I actually attempt to install EET. Once I'm prompted for the path, I am stuck with the "Invalid directory, or incorrect BG:EE+SoD installation." error. I've made 100% sure I've got SoD installed and ran modmerge beforehand. My games work, and the path I'm specifying is valid: /home/stew/Games/BG/modbox/bgee I've looked over similar threads on the forum and seen common answers, like needing SoD installed. Is there something I can look at to see how the path is being verified, or even better, specify it someplace other than the prompt (it appears that this was an option in the past)? I've got the Steam versions, latest patch, no mods installed. Using EET RC 11. Any help appreciated, for such an easy prompt, I am stuck here. Thanks, stew

    Building GemRB 0.8.4 on Ubuntu 14.04

    I've downloaded the latest (0.8.4) tar.gz from the SF page. I read the INSTALL file to check the required packages to build GemRB. I'm following the build instructions, but when I do "cmake .." from the build directory, I get the an error message (see below) that there are missing python libraries. Running "python" in the terminal reports that I'm running 2.7.6. What should I do next? I'm attaching a copy of my cmake log file.
  4. Not sure if this is the correct forum. I have IceWind Dale 2 running under Wine on Linux, but my i5 laptop overheats easily and crashes the game. It pushes one of my four cores to the max, whatever resource use setting I try. Will running the game under GemRB result in less resource use? I have Baldur's Gate working on my Nexus 7 without extreme battery drain, so it seems like it but I wanted a word from the wise!

When I trying to convert the stupid *.png files to the stupid *.bam files that is need for my mod to BG2:EE I have obtain a super-mega idea how to make a matrix like console screen saver for linux! So I started to read a lot of a stupid boring man pages and I have found program that called openssl rand this thing should to generate a pseudo-random bucket of data. But this data is looks very suxxy in the console . So I have found another crazy flexible and a crazy inopportune and a stupid program called xxd that can show a some data in 0101010010111111110101 format. >openssl rand -out cool_e 8 -out means a name of a file in which will be wrote the data, 8 - this is a bit-size of data or byte-size, but who really cares about. . >xxd -bits cool_ethis will show something like this. 0000000: 00110011 01101111 11001011 11111001 01010111 11111100 3o..W.0000006: 01001011 11011001 K.but I need something like this one 0011001101101111110010111111100101010111111111000100101111011001e.g. without the number of line rightward and without the symbolic column leftward. HOW to do it?   6. I have EE versions of Baldur's Gate from steam and unix based OS. Is there a way to install any mods that use weidu? The linux installation instructions for most mods seem to expect you to run original Baldur's Gate using wine, even thought they say that they are EE compatible. The EE version seems break if you run tolower, which is the first instruction in prety much every installation guide. Is there guide or tutorial for how to use WeiDu on linux with EE? Can the tolower be avoided or fixed afterwards? Without tolower WeiDu gets: ERROR: Unable to find DIALOG.TLK in: ./^dialog\.tlk$ And with it, I can't play. There is dialog.tlk named files in lang/xx_YY folders and DIALOG.BIF in data folder. So is the error from location or naming of the files? So, renaming xx_YY to xx_yy (ex. en_US to en_us) got me bit forward. The next error is like this, but it does allow to continue. Couldn't open the readme: file not found. ERROR: No translation provided for @0 Continuing despite error.
  7. Hi all! I bought the GOG Edition of Icewind dale I and i install it on a Fedora 16: its work perfectly except for the widescreen mode. I download the widescreenmode and when I install it, the installation suddleny stop and i dont know if it finished or not. How i know if the mod was sucesfully installed?
  8. This post is for Noobs like myself. I just thought id share how after 3 days I was able to install the bg2fixpack after many fails. It was actually not that hard. The installation notes in gibberlings readme file give an "idea" of what needs to be done but are in need of explanation. Also reading and rereading the error lines in the terminal gave hints to missing data. Here goes: First install BG2 properly. (just thought Id say) Download WeiDU-Linux-237.zip for linux which at time of this posting Jan 9 2015 will be version 237. Download lin-bg2fixpack-v10.tar.gz (the fixpack for BG2 linux) Move those zips/tars to the "correct" Baldur's Gate 2 directory. Mine goes: /home/downloads/BG2Linux/Baldurs Gate 2/prefix/drive_c/GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 You want that last BG2 directory. Extract both the archives into that directory. I use engrampa 1.6.0 (archive manager) to extract others like to open up the terminal and type the command. You will now have a weidu-linux folder. Go into /weidu-linux/bin folder and choose iether amd64 or i386. i386 worked for me. Move the tolower, weidu, weinstall files to .../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 directory. Then open your terminal from system tools. Type sudo caja then enter (my file management system is caja). Caja will open with superuser privileges. Navigate to /usr/bin select the 3 files above tolower, weidu, weinstall and drag(which will copy) them into the /usr/bin close the superuser caja Now in the .../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2/bg2fixpack directory copy the 2 lone files namely: readme-bg2fixpack.html and setup-bg2fixpack.tp2 and paste them into the .../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 directory. HARDEST PART (or if you have chitin.key in the "correct" afore metioned directory, use that and disregard "HARDEST PART") Your going to need a file called chitin.key. It did not come in my GOG BG2 linux download. I had to get it from a BG2EE iso torrent download called Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition.tar.gz Copy and paste the chitin.key from this into .../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 directory. After downloading the tar ball again (since I had deleted it) and checking the files. Indeed as others have said the chitin.key file is there. In my confusion and late nights to get the mod working i must have moved/deleted the original chitin.key. Anyway use the one that comes with the game you are moding (although Ive had no problems as of yet). Next run tolower in ../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 directory and all its sub directories. Basically you are lower casing everything. Gibberlings mod directories come lowercased. I had to manually go into all the main directories within ../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 directory. Using caja or your favorite file manager simply be in the desired directory (starting in ../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 directory) and right click and select open within terminal. Then type: tolower select y for both questions from here on out select y the n Then go into every other main directory within the ../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 directory and do the same. Just by glancing at the files you should notice that every file is now lowercase and subdirectories seem to get lowercased also. Then finally you can go back to the ../GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2 directory and open in terminal. Type: weinstall setup-bg2fixpack.tp2 enter and the install should begin.
  9. I've installed IWD2 on Linux using PlayOnLinux and a GOG game. I want to also install the IWD2 Ease of use mod on top of that so that my dex-based monk can take the Weapon Finesse Feat. See http://www.gog.com/forum/icewind_dale_series/dex_monk_weapon_finesse_feat I was told to install Weidu as a first step. I thought that it would offer options to install various mods so I followed this: http://www.shsforums.net/topic/29361-linux-and-weidu-mods/ Weidu installed but there was no dialogue to install other mods on top of it. What should I do next? I looked at http://weidu.org/iwd2.html#iwd2-ease, but the RAR file links to a directory called /old that can't be right?
  10. I installed the widescreen mod with a resolution of 1024 x 600. Here is the result when I launch "full screen" mode: I've tried 1024 x 576 and 960 x 540 with the same result. I also tried 1024 x 768, which curiously did fill the whole screen. I thought it might be related to this bug on WineHQ, but I have 3D acceleration turned off. I did try turning it on to see if it made any difference, and the game crashed. (See attached bug report) I have played in the game in at least one of these resolutions under Windows (1024 x 600 I think), so I know it's not a hardware compatibility issue. Also, I can set my desktop resolution to 1024 x 600, 1024 x 576 or 960 x 540 using `xrandr` from the command line.   11. I downloaded BG2 from GOG and extracted the files to my ~/Downloads directory. I also downloaded the bg2fixpack and extracted it to the game directory (~/Downloads/Baldurs Gate 2/prefix/drive_c/GOG Games/Baldur's Gate 2/) along with the WeiDU bin/amd64 files. So the game directory contains the bg2fixpack directory as well as the tolower, weidu and weinstall executables. I ran tolower in the directory and answered Y to both questions. But now when I try to run the command: ./weinstall bg2fixpack/ It just says: Killed I tried running the command with sudo but that doesn't seem to do anything at all. I also tried moving the tolower, weidu and weinstall exe's to /usr/bin like the instructions recommend but no difference there. Edit: Figured it out. I needed to copy the exe's from bin/i386 to /usr/bin. And yes they have to be in /usr/bin or the script can't find em. How do I delete this thread?
  12. Hi! I did some searching, but still couldn't find a soluton to the problem. I'm playing iwd:how on Bodhi Linux (pretty much like the latest Ubuntu, I think) with all the patches (iwd-1,06-how-1,41-ToL) and I believe I'm using the newest gemrb. I also use the Widescreen Patch, tried installing it both ways - for the original IE and for GemRB, to no difference in the following. The game crahses randomly in mid-combat, sometimes I get to kill one goblin, sometimes I don't get even this far. Trying to cast a spell (Magic Missile, in this case) seems to crash the game every time. gemrb.log shows this: I thought it was my ancient ATi videocard or the drivers. But then I tried to run the same iwd on the same machine with no gemrb from virtualbox. And it doesn't crash that way. I tried to reinstall iwd to a directory with no spaces in the address, to no result. What am I doing wrong?
  13. I'd appreciate some help on this. Firstly, I know what the AR0100.wed error is for, its a location error. I can get widescreen PT working on Win7 and with wine on Ubuntu 12.04 but I no longer use Win7 and it's really slow with wine on Ub, especially as I intend on modding BG later. As it's GOG it's a patched full install with correct torment.ini. Using tolower and WeInstall I can install the fix, ub and tweak mods but not widescreen. I've used tolower to put everything in lower case on a vanilla install through playonlinux and acquired the linux.ini (which is wrong). WeInstall widescreen fails with Ar0100.wed/bif error so the paths are incorrect.   14. Hi there, I'm a new user of GemRB and I experience some problems playing Baldur's Gate I (with no Add-on). When in fullscreen mode I can't move the mouse pointer to the right or the lower edge of the screen. It seems there is an invisible frontier for it. At the right edge this limitation is exactly the boundary of the character selection menu bar, the lower limitation has about the same width. Thus, I can't move the screen in these directions and playing the game is impossible. I don't have this issue when not playing in fullscreen, but then the screen is very small. Does anybody have a clue how I can get rid of this phenomenon? Some background info: I'm using - Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity - GemRB 0.7.0 - Screen resolution 1024x768, game resolution 640x480 Thanks a lot in advance
