  1. Hackers are people who change/edit/remake computer programs using 2nd and 3rd party software, crackers are people who try to get into other computer systems. Hackers are the ones who create viruses and other nasty things but stay clear of attacking computer systems on a direct level. Crackers are the ones who attack your coputer system directly in order to delete/steal information. destroy your computer, and toy with you. All modders are technically hackers. Hacker/cracker are not "bad" words, it's just that the only time you hear them is when someone is deleting your hard drive (or some such), never is it mentioned that most of the fixes that Microsoft/Norton/MacAffee/Zone Alarm (and everybody else) use are submitted by us. We are also the ones who prevent more viruses and computer attacks from happening and stop the current ones. If you believe that Microsoft or the government stopped them you're dilluded. The government could care less, and Microsoft spends all it's time trying to correct the mistakes THEY made. Dictionaries are only useful for spelling and making sarcastic remarks.
  2. In 2e the weapon damage is variable but the number added to it when you backstab is always the same. Using Ghreyfain's example of a 1d8 weapon with x7 backstab, you have 8 damage possibilities (7,14,21,28,35,42,49,56). In 3e, using the same weapon, you have anywhere from 88 to 968 damage possibilities (+2d6 to +20d6). The math may be off, as sleep deprevation has been shown to dull math skills, but it's close enough. The x5-x7 (or whatever you decide if/when you do this) would change the damage possibilities to 24. It's obviously not the same but it's closer then usual.
  3. This has more to do with logic then D&D, but what about a variable backstab multiplier. Even without the person knowing you are there, I doubt you could always get your blade in exactly the right spot or you could even get lucky and you blade does more damage then you expected. Dependent on lvl, your multiplier would be x2-x4 instead of just x3, or x6-x8 instead of x7. You could add a ability like "Perfect Strike/Backstab" which would keep your backstab multiplier the same, when you get to a high enough lvl. It would also appeased some of the 3e D&D fanboys as it is closer to damage modifier. Of course I don't know how feasible this would be.

Shall we begin? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, looks like fun. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Shall we begin? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, looks like fun. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> don't encourage them! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> oopse..didn't mean to do that... : p <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You should be more careful <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I mean, it's not like it's easy to do. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Huh?!? What?!? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was just pointing out that it's hard to do that kind of thing by accident. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course, if no one made these mistakes, such insane acts would never continue <{POST_SNAPBACK}> @BigRob: Just trying to keep the chain going and keep in with my personna of not having a clue. And to continue the chain... mistakes?!? We *never* make "mistakes". ; ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Almost a work of art. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What do we have to do to get rid of that almost? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not exclude Kish's post. :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> and since there've been no additions for, you know, an AGE! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And, of course, my post is lost btw, I cant use more than 30 quote tags. I guess they forsaw crazy people like us. Edit: Great, Fallen_Demon posted simultaneously, so now we're really confused. There is only one solution: Let's make two threads! WE WILL TAKE OVER THE WHOLE FORUM MWAHAHAHAHA <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Confusion is good. @forseeing people like us, Damned psyching Gibberlings BTW, I don't know which is sadder, that we actually created this thread, or that we failed to keep quoting eachother. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I feel obligated to say "he started it", and point randomly. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I did so NOT start this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> my but you ARE defensive aren't you? methinks the, *rats and curses and dangs 'cos the quotes ruined* *paraphrases* methinks the jester doth protest too much! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why does it feel like I need to get some dramamine? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quote sickness be a rare condition. Arr. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wonder if this thread title should be changed to "A meeting of extremely disturbed likeminds"
  5. That depends on your system, if you could get this info 1. Current video card (maker and chipset) 2. speed of ram (266mhz, 33mhz, etc) 3. your motherboard (maker and chipset) 4. what games you play the most Some general rules for buying a computer people should use to avoid problems (this is not targeted at you Jinnai, I just post this whenever a conversation like this comes up, for people who might not know) 1. BUILD IT YOURSELF 2. DO RESEARCH 3. CHEAPER = PIECE OF CRAP (about 95% of the time) now some more specific ones 4. building it yourself is always cheaper unless you break #5 5. never pay less then $700 ($1000 if you can manage) 6. if you can't build it yourself buy it from a big name retailer (Alienware, Dell, Gateway, etc) not Wal-Mart or "Bob's House of Computer Thingies" (you will pay more, but get less less stress, downtime, and violent thoughts involving chainsaws/explosives/blowtorches) 7. if a part is much cheaper then the MSRP, avoid it like the plague (see #6) 8. BUILD IT YOURSELF, DO RESEARCH, and CHEAPER = PIECE OF CRAP 9. skip the top-of-the-line stuff (the stuff released in the past 6-12 months), you don't need it and it's a waste of money Finally, the most important rule 10. if you buy a computer (parts) from Ebay you might just be the dumbest person on the planet
  6. see here http://www.rinkworks.com/stupid/ When I read this I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry, I did a hell of a lot of both
  7. Sell them to the "black market" and computer "chop shops", but mostly the parts with "removed" slots and interfaces are made that way by the manufacturers and sold slightly cheaper, which wouldn't be a problem except that the retailers are not obligated to notify you that they are using stripped down parts unless you ask, and no one EVER does (and some seedier places will lie). Dell, while being the "best" mainstream pure computer retailer, is not close to being adequate to some one who uses their computer for more then IM, email, and surfing (a bit of an exaggeration, but not much of one). The only thing the word new means when it comes to computers is that you just bought it. @Jinnai - that is an extremely encouraging statement. To many people get an inferior, more expensive, and buggy computer because they think building a computer from scratch is hard/complicated and that they won't be able to figure it out or screw up. I can put together a computer from scratch and install Windows in 1 hour, some one who has never done it before can do it in 3 hours easily, and that is if they are taking there time.
  8. I have always considered Anomen a "special" case, I just don't think it's along the same lines as the thread title, and killing Anomen can NEVER be a bad thing. Oh and I third Killara and K. Lou
  9. If you aren't going to build your own computer you should try to avoid buying a computer from general electronics stores (Circuit City, Best Buy, Tweeter, etc) unless you have no other choice, as they are the biggest perpetrator of removing/using computers parts that have been "trimmed" (manufacturers sell them for less but the store can still say it is the normal piece of hardware, which saves the store money), except of course if you buy one from a place like Walmart/K-Mart, in which case you will get a computer that will (quite literally) blow up in 3 weeks. Always buy a computer from a store that only deals with computer hardware or at least a VERY minimal amount of software (stores that sell software as well have a lower profit margin, so they cut corners, usually in the shiiping, tech support, and return policy areas) unless you have no other choice , but you still have to be careful, there is a very large and abundant "balck market" for computer parts. Oh and emachines =
  10. That's ... an interesting way to build a machine. But thanks for the exposition. Now I understand why you're only getting a video card. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This happens ALOT, and I mean ALOT. AGP, PCI, Ram, IDE, SATA, PS/2, USB ports (among others) can all be removed "legally" without notification to the consumer. Basically manufacturers deny all knowledge that it happens and that they give permission to do it, and I have never heard of or met a person who was happy when they found out. Of course it happens illegally as well and I have heard reliable stories of people who, when they turned on their computer and nothing happened, looked inside the case and found not only did they not have a CPU inside they did not have a CPU socket to put one in. Saving money sometimes costs you alot of money. "Buyer beware" and all that jazz Oh and who did you buy the computer from?
  11. Here's a bunch Her "experience" in female-female relationships. how the above was handled - in the underdark and if she would change anything now. Basically anything about the underdark - you've never been and an insider's perspective is always interesting (pre-underdark or comments on stuff that happened while you were there) Why she still worships Shar - considering if you want to be able to change her alignment or because Bioware handled here differently then most would envision Shar's priestesses (the fact being "evil" is not that easy without serious roleplaying and a bunch of imagination) Anything about her past - especially about her experiences in the underdark, her family, former lovers (both female and male), a more indepth reason why she left the underdark and her life after it until you met Basically anything about her you don't know, stuff that she knows and you don't (History, Art, weapon use, religion/god worship, etc), what she thinks about random/everything/anything. This stuff does tend to come up in every intimate lationship that would not be classified as "sex friends/friends with benefits"
  12. Look here - http://www2.newegg.com/index.asp - it's the most trustable place to buy computer parts on the internet, has great shipping, a VERY good return policy, and the prices are middle of the pack Video Cards - http://www2.newegg.com/Product/ProductList...Submit=Property http://www2.newegg.com/Product/ProductList...Submit=Property All but one is a Geforce FX (mostly because ATI stopped making PCI cards a long long time ago) And since you only have 512mb of ram you need this too (anything newer than Win ME needs at least 1gig). Depending on your computer hardware and software setup in can improve performance by 43% or more (going from 512mb to 1gig) Memory - http://www2.newegg.com/Product/ProductList...Submit=Property http://www2.newegg.com/Product/ProductList...870&PageSize=50 http://www2.newegg.com/Product/ProductList...70&PageSize=100 the first one is 266mhz, the second is 333mhz, and the third is 400mhz, all three being DDRram (since you didn't name your motherboard, and I find it hard to believe you have RDram). Oh and avoid anything that is not Crucial, Kingston, or Corsair like the plague. If you ever decide to get a new computer go here - http://www.pricewatch.com/ - and build it yourself, it's cheaper and you can get better tech support from friends/the internet then anywhere else including places like Dell and Alienware. The only thing to watch out for is some of the sites that advertize there suck badly and will do things like remove you AGP slot (you'd be supprised how often that happens).
  13. Yeah I realized that after I had made the poll. I put both as more along the lines of a EoU concurrent romance hak and the fact "romancing" beautiful sisters/twins is alot of guys (and some girls) huge fantasy (notice the subtitle "being the perv that I am"). Oh and so Grim Squeaker didn't end up "missing" if he voted for one or the other , not that I expected him to.
  14. Nice But the forehead, cheeks, and chin need more detail/imperfections, while there is a little color variance, they are to "clean"/"painted" and it makes the portrait seem alot less realistic. They rest of it is great and I would prefer it over the golden guy with a sword one.
  15. umm *poke* *realizes he broke his rule of not asking about progress/release dates and hides in shame* *poke* Just really looking forwartd to this one. *hides*
  16. After rereading Rastor's posts I got a mental image of Rastor in a stereo-typical pimp outfit saying something like "Hey babies I have enough love for two". So now I have to go rip out my eyes and bludgeon myself until the image goes away.

It's a government conspiracy. AAAAAAH THE MEN IN BLACK ARE ON TO US. *puts on tinfoil hat and huddles in a closet*
  18. Could you possibly be more desciptive in how you envision him being Domi, I don't think I got a clear enough picture. I see him as ..... damn I just lost my mind (literally or figuratively, you get to pick) This has been 6 seconds of you life you never get back Sorry I am in a wierd mood today
  19. The stubble can be color faded to be removed and give the impression of pores. The only problem I have with the coloring is the cloak, it's gold and Kivan's old portrait had him wearing green, plus his paper doll clothing color is green. You are right though it is very good and the facial expression is great.
  20. Not bad except he has a sword. Being an Archer he CAN use a sword but realistically an archer tends to stick with a bow.
  21. Basically the only time identifying someone by their race is okay (at least in the US) is in a kidding and sarcastic tone between people who know each other. An example being in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Boromir often refers to Legolas as "elf" in their dialogue, it is not said as an insult nor is it taken as one, because they are friends Legolas understands that Boromir calls him that in jest and even more so out of respect, because of the rivalry between dwarves and elves calling him "elf" is a constant reminder to Boromir that Legolas is an elf (most dwarves think of elves as a bunch a prancing wusses) and yet has saved his life many times (a favor Boromir has returned in kind) and is in fact his equal on the battlefield. While this example requires some knowledge of the LotR trilogy (which I don't know if you have) it is pretty self explanatory. Another way it is okay is if it is used as a pet name/nickname to a lover/partner and is usually used as a joke. Adding adjectives like kind and dear to it make it less offensive but should only be used by friends as well because if someone does not know you they might still think it is an insult. But I agree with Bri don't just refer to him as Kivan the whole time, it gets boring, you should try to come up with a nickname or two for party and friendly NPC interaction to keep things fresh, but calling him "elf" in a doragatory (sp?) way would be acceptable if the person saying it generally hate his guts.

    A Present for Aklon

Honestly I was half joking with the paper mache thing. I think that buying something for him would make more sense only in that while you may have had a hobby in Candlekeep whether or not you kept it up once you left is certainly debateable what with all the people trying to kill you, among alot of ohter things.
  23. This is my vote, but basically I would like more soundsets in general considering there are only 5 male soundsets and 4 female soundsets with BG 2/TOB and 3 each with BG 1/TotSC.

    A Present for Aklon

Maybe the PC can make a paper mache version of Aklon out of his/her stamp collection.
  25. Any idea on how this would be decided? For instance, would it be a choice made by the player, a stronghold thing, etc.
