Problems with IWD2

I can't seem to get this to work in IWD2.

After reading through the forums I've tried a few tricks. The last thing I did was.

1. Install a fresh version of IWD2

2. Run IWD2 config

3. Run IWD2, play through the first couple of conversations, kill the first couple of goblins. :)

4. Install Widescreen Mod

Then when I try to set everything up this is what happens:

C:\Leikir\Black Isle\Icewind Dale II>widescreen\weidu-202-23.exe widescreen\wide

screen.tp2 --log SETUP-WIDESCREEN.DEBUG --tlkout dialog.tlk --ftlkout dialogF.tl

k --noautoupdate

[widescreen\weidu-202-23.exe] WeiDU version 20223

This is a non-stable version. Unless you're sure about what you're doing, consid

er downgrading.

[widescreen\weidu-202-23.exe] Using scripting style "IWD2"

But when I run IWD2 and start a new game everything is just in 800x600. I've tried this a numerous times now and I never get anything above 800x600

If I check my ini file now it has reverted back to 'Resolution=1680'.

I have the "Icewind Dale: The Ultimate Collection" package. It comes with patch 2.01. It also comes with a bonus CD which I haven't tried installing yet.

I'm not sure if there's anything more you'd need to know. I've tried multiple resolutions but none work. It either always defaults to 800x600 or gives me an error telling me IWD2 can't run (IE. when I try doing a 1600x900 in windowed mode).

ooops...

What I meant was, after I've run the game after installing widescreen and seeing that it's just 800x600 I quit the game and check my ini file again.

Now it has reverted back to 'Resolution = 800'. (not 1680)

Did you install the 2.01 patch?

The game itself actually seems to come with it pre-installed.

When I click 'Options' on the Main Menu screen there's a little box at the bottom with:

v2.01 (091311)

printed in it.

v 2.01 101615 here. Download link hopefully here.

Thanks a lot The Bigg :)

That was the problem, I didn't realize I had a different build of patch 2.01. I figured it had to be the same one. This is something anyone using the "Icewind Dale: The Ultimate Collection" should keep in mind.

One hint to anyone who has had the same problem as I though.

If you've already installed the Widescreen Mod then you need to both uninstall IWD2 and delete the Widescreen Mod before you can get it to work again. Simply applying patch 2.01 (the one The Bigg linked) won't work, since the Widescreen Mod actually rerolled IWD2 back to the old version of v2.01.

So, this is how I did it:

1. Uninstall IWD2

2. Delete the widescreen mod

3. Install IWD2

4. Run Config

5. Played the game for a bit

6. Installed the patch The Bigg linked

7. Run Config

8. Play through the first conversation etc.

9. Installed the Widescreen Mod

Now everything worked perfectly.

Note:

Step 4 and 5 were 'accidental' and can most likely be ignored, but since I went through them I thought I should include them 'just in case'.

Step 7 and 8 were simply because I read in some thread on these forums (albeit for BG2 iirc) that that was a good way to get the Widescreen Mod to work.

Thanks again The Bigg for both the help and the quick response.

Also a huge kudos for creating this mod, I never figured it could be done. It really makes for a whole new experience.
