Mixed-Use Dagger Fixes

Daggers that can be used in melee and thrown are an irresolvable bug: when thrown, daggers should get an extra attack per round, but there's no way to apply this bonus without also granting it when he dagger is being used in melee. This component grants the extra attack but at the expense of removing melee abilities.

Files altered: dagg11.itm, dagg12.itm

Can't we use this technique from BG2 Tweak Pack:

Two-Handed Bastard Swords

It always seemed odd that the general description of bastard swords implied they could be wielded with two hands. This tweak adds an ability to all bastard swords that will create a two-handed version of the sword in your inventory. The one-handed version will be removed. The new sword will have the animation of a two-handed sword but, in all other respects, will be the same as the one-handed version. You can switch back to the one-handed version at any time. The ability is found behind the backpack icon, once the sword is equipped. This component will not affect items introduced by mods.

Note: Instances may occur when a bastard sword appears to have a selling price of 1 gp. Resting will fix this.

to solve this issue?

An item ability could switch between a melee-only version (without the bonus attack) and a ranged-only version (with the bonus attack), right?

Unless I'm overlooking a game engine quirk that prevents this...

Seriously, it's a little cumbersome but it's a hell of a lot better than removing the melee abilities entirely. The daggers in question are among the most useful daggers in the game, and to cripple them because of a PnP rule quirk is completely unacceptable.

As it stands, your fix doesn't actually fix anything. It just breaks the weapon further.

Btw, no offense intended. The forum's here for feedback, so I'm giving it.

The thread that birthed Mixed-Use Daggers:

http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showtopic=4257

does not mention the method that WL suggests, so he's not rehashing an old issue, attempting to incite chaos, etc.

So... Is there any good reason that this suggestion is being ignored? If it'd work (I don't know if it would), then it'd be great to have as an option (perhaps you could even keep the existing fix but offer this as an alternative).
