Charm and Dire Charm: how do those work?

Hi there!

I had a slight problem with the Charm and Dire Charm spells: it seems they expire right after having charmed the creature, even if I do it no harm.

I was ambushed by the Gullykin mercenary group (SCS component) and tried to charm two of them, one with Charm and the other one with Dire Charm, and both failed their saves. I have autopause on spell cast, so I effectively saw them with the green circle and gave them some orders. In the meanwhile, I had another character casting blindness on a third enemy (not one of the two charmed ones of course), but as soon as the character cast the spell and the autopause kicks in, both the charmed creatures were red again. In the combat log I had no indication of any harm done to them whatsoever. In fact, I had only those lines (more or less, cannot copy-paste but I'm 100% sure the following is the only text I had):

Autopause for Rose's Charm

Game unpaused

Enemy Charmed

Autopause for Viconia's Blindess

And here the two enemies turned hostile again.

 

I've checked both SPWI104 and SPWI316, the first has an effect with charm creature and time set to 30, the other one has an effect with charm creature and time set to 60, so I believe that's not the issue - but I do not know what all the other eff files do, even if I guess they're for racial resistances for elves and half-elves.

 

I believe there could be a clash with the AI, forcing them to be enemies, or something that breaks the enchantment both in the spell itself, or in the shouts attacked creatures do periodically to call for help. I decided to post the issue here in the first place to check if someone else has noticed this odd behavior or if there is a known cause I couldn't think of that breaks the charm effect. If not, I'll also post on the SCS boards since I think this could be related to it too.

I caused such issue long time ago but it should indeed be fixed since ages.

 

Back then the mistake was that both spells had the flag "break invisibility/hostile". Try checking if such flag is there in the .spl files, but they don't in my clear SR install.

 

P.S The EFF files are indeed there for racial resistances for elves and half-elves. ???

Thanks for the reply. ??? I've checked the flags, and indeed both spells have no flags set at all. I've then tested the spell on two hobgob01.cre, and they worked flawlessly. In the end I've tried against Drakar, Halaca, Molkar and Morvin (I CLUAConsol'ed them in) and on them the effect expired in seconds. I've checked only Molkar's script, but I think I found the culprit, as the script has the following blocks:
