Jaheira's spellbook not updated

I just started a new game with v3 and hotfixes applied, but while imoen has the new mage spells, nothing seems to have changed for Jaheira, she has all the old spells only, and I'm sure even the description of those has been updated. Any idea what's wrong?

I have a feeling it's do with Level 1 NPC's, perhaps the component that sets NPC xp near to your character's xp? That has some script that runs to 'auto-rest' without actually resting to set spells up.

Only thing is, I have not modded Jaheira with this, just Minsc and Imoen...so I don't see how it should affect her directly in that case...

Here's the Weidu log anyway:

Ok, there seem to be a few things not working out.

That component from level 1 NPCs I thought was causing the trouble is probably not, since I went ahead and uninstalled it, then even reinstalled the 'update spellbook' component from SR, started a new game, got Jaheira and she is still missing all the new spells like sunscorch etc. The ones she does have do have updated descriptions, so things have indeed installed fine.

She does gain the new spells upon level up, but that's annoying to wait for.

Further, the ADSCROLL method, whilst obviously being a little immersion breaking, does not seem to work too great either. If i use it for her, she actually loses barkskin. I suppose I do not need to use it? As in, there are no spells that need to be removed from druids at any level? (The scroll does mention druids, so I used it...)

I then jumped areas to Viconia, to test out what's up, and she has spells like Shillelagh and barkskin. I use ADSCROLL on here, and she loses those as wanted. Now, the issue is do I need to use it again at later spell levels (when she gains them) to remove any more spells she should not have, because the problem there is that using the scroll again causes her to lose spells that she SHOULD have, like symbol of death for one, and some spell at level 4 too, for just 2 examples. (I cheated her up in level to test what would happen should I need to use ADSCROLL to remove spells at higher levels, and she lost these).

Of course, if there are no spells to remove after that initial use for things like barkskin, then there is no issue, as I won't use it after that inital meeting obviously. Just wanted to point out what happens with multiple uses (it's the same with Jaheira, more than one use of ADSCROLL will cause loss of spells like barkskin, for e.g.)

Anyways, I guess the point is, is there any reason the component is not working? And, anyway the spellbooks could be fixed in a 'quicker' way than waiting for a level up?

It would just be really nice if this all worked by itself somehow, and preferably without the ADSCROLL method, but I understand there are many limitations that are not your fault. Just hoping for a solution and some answers.

Mike would probably be much more helpful on this than me but unfortunatley he isn't around right now. I'll see if I can do something about it.

I don't remember anymore if the ADSCROLL is still up to date in terms of spells list, I never touched it since Mike added the patching component. What I do remember though is that it was kinda rough indeed, but worked: it may remove some spells to both classes instead of just one because back then (3-4 years at least) I didn't used EFF files much to heavily refine this immersion breaking system, but after a lvl up everything is fine. You have to use it just once, you don't have to use it again after each lvl up simply becasue characters don't gain spells they shouldn't have. You should use it just before leveling up if you want to minimize the amount of time spent with .

We do want it to work by itself, and we don't want ADSCROLL to be used (it's there just as a left over and backup system).

I don't know why it isn't working, though there was a similar problem not long ago (see here) and it seemed a compatibility problem with Lvl1 NPC. There was also a player suggesting TweakPack's druid spell progression causing that, but I cannot confirm it, and I actually always used such component with SR without any issue.

I'll try to investigate a little.

Thanks, that would be great if you could look into it.

I unistalled level 1 NPCs completely, and reinstalled SR, but still nothing

No idea what's wrong.

This was reported not long ago here, and we discovered it was caused by ToBEx, and should have been fixed by now (apparently it's not).

Regarding you having many issues I'm kinda lost, especially because SR is pretty much bug free in its current state, even when used on mega mod installs. The only thing I really don't know much is the very recent ToBEx, which is "silently" used by SCS and may have consequences I'm not aware of (e.g. the above issue). I may have to change some things to allow for it which I currently don't know about, and some of its components may clash with something else. For example I think I recently read within SCS forums about a small issue with one of its components affecting spellbooks (scrollable?) and having zero knowledge of it (and how its hacks work) I don't know if any of those component can have compatibility issues with Mike's component to update NPCs spellbooks.

Well, i'm having many issues. The latest of which is the cutscene with Irenicus outside in the promenade has him kill the shadow thieves, then fire off 4-5 flame arrows right at me - aren't flame arrows supposed to go to different targets within SR? They all hit my main, and luckily he had the hp to survive! I read that you have changed this to a melf, well, it certainly was not! I have the latest SR, with hotfixes, downloaded like 2 days ago. He doesn't even cast the spell, he's in fact facing away from us, and they come out of nowhere, these arrows.

Here: I managed to spam print screen a little:

http://img683.imageshack.us/i/baldr010.png/

http://img850.imageshack.us/i/baldr011.png/

Regarding ToBex, Scsii does indeed add it in fairly surreptitiously (as in, i have no choice about certain components - it's all or nothing with whatever SCSII decides to give me, i can turn all of tobex/tob_hacks off or none afaict), and I do have the scrollable spellbook by default - perhaps this causes that patch to not work as you seem to be veering towards aswell?

The entangle spell; is it meant to use a new animation? from iwd or something? If so, it may have something to do with directdraw? I have directdraw acceleration disabled. Anyway to have the old spell animation back? I know that works.

Finally, I had some weird stuff go on earlier in the dungeon...an assassin managed to charm herself over to my side...(combat log shows it)

http://img683.imageshack.us/i/baldr008.png/

This must be some SCSII issue more than anything else, but perhaps the spell is modified in a way she can't handle?

As you say, this is not even a megamod install, nowhere near, and everything seemed to have gone smoothly during installation.

It's patched 26498, then fixpacked as seen above in weidu.

If people are really not having these, then i guess it's local and don't worry about it...don't know why though. Thnaks for the help so far.

Yep we fixed this issue by replacing the cutscene's FA with a Melf's Acid Arrow, and it seemed to work fine as no one reported the issue again since then. I really don't know why you're experiencing so many issues that shouldn't exist.

Sorry but my knowledge on this matter is really limited. You'd better ask to David or even better A64 at SHS because my comprehension of hacking an exe and its consequences is pretty much non existant (I'm an ignorant kid compared to A64).

I suggested to look into ToBEx's "scrollable spellbook" simply because I have no other clue, and because we never run into any of this before the latests SCS version.

On a side note, I really don't see any reason to force "scrollable spellbook" component of ToBEx into SCS, is there?

The entangle spell; is it meant to use a new animation? from iwd or something? If so, it may have something to do with directdraw? I have directdraw acceleration disabled. Anyway to have the old spell animation back? I know that works.
Pacek's solution was this: in Tobex.ini set Brighten On Disable Brightest No3d Fix=0

If you don't feel fine tweaking ToBEx than you can simply remove SR's spentaai.bam and spentaci.bam from your override after installing SR. That will restore vanilla's animation.

Finally, I had some weird stuff go on earlier in the dungeon...an assassin managed to charm herself over to my side...(combat log shows it)

Very strange, the spell isn't modified in any way that could cause that (Charm Person and Dire Charm are pretty much identical to vanilla within SR). I'd guess it's a small error in a script, let me know if the issue rises again and we'll look into it (perhaps asking David about it).

If people are really not having these, then i guess it's local and don't worry about it...don't know why though.
Yep, right now it seems you are the only one having these issues (which actually makes my job of helping you harder), but who knows, you may be the first of many, thus discovering what's going on would be great.

Can any other player reproduce any of these issues?

Pretty much the same problem here. Additionally, Viconia also comes up with both Priest and Druid spells. Level-up does not fix her spellbook. I remember not having these problems with an almost identical mod setup before. I believe that the only changes I made were installing TobEx and aTweaks, the former before SR and SCS, the latter after those two. Current Weidu.log as follows.

Viconia with druid's spells?!? As I feared it almost surely is a compatibility issue with ToBEx, because none of this was happening before the latests SCS release which uses ToBEx instead of Taimon's hacks. ;)

Can you un-install ToBEx and see if everything works again? I think SCS has an install option to fall back to old style instead of ToBEx, hasn't it?

Hello, 'original guest' here. I too had the viconia thing with druid spells, thought i mentioned it? guess not.

It seems to me to be ToBEx too, he does not have level 1 npc there, and it's the next thing that comes to mind.

Perhaps letting A64 know over on SHS, if you haven't done so already, would be an idea. You can probably explain the problem better/more technically than me.

Uninstalled both SCSII and TobEx, results are still mixed, however (pretty sure that TobEx should no longer load (no console popup)). Even though I reinstalled the "Update spellbooks" component, Jaheira still does not come with all available spells at level 1, and gains them only after leveling up. However, when importing the stock cleric character into a new game, he starts with some druid spells, for some reason. After leveling up, he does not seem to gain any new, but he still keeps Flame Blade, Barkskin, Animal Summoning, and Shillelagh (maybe others that I couldn't identify as Druid spells at first glance). Interestingly enough, other druid spells aren't included, for example, Summon Insects.

Are you loading a save or did you started a new game?

By "stock cleric" you men the pre-generated characters offered by BG2? I don't know the component so well (Mike is the one behind it) but it could be the component doesn't patch them.

Look, the way it's working out in-game I can certainly explain, in regards to other guests finding about e.g. summon insects.

Basically whatever level you start at, as a cleric, you will have the druid spells that your spellbook level allows, but won't gain any others upon subsequent level-ups. For example, try creating a level 1 cleric, (eaytutu+SR, say) and you'll see you will have things like shillelagh, and whatever else originally was for clerics and druids. Level up to level 2 spells and you should NOT have barkskin etc.

In bg2 you start at level 7, hence have spellbook levels up to 3 or 4 open already, and so barkskin et all are there.

Just wanted to explain what happens in-game; the technical side of things is up to you of course, but hopefully this provides some insight without needing to extensively find out yourself wtf is up.
