Guest Bluenose
In 2nd edition PnP a lot of spells required expensive material components. Examples include Stoneskin, Contingency, Death Spell and True Seeing. While it's obviously impractical to require specific items, would it be possible to remove gold from the party when some of those spells were cast? And if it is possible, is it a worthwhile idea as a way to reduce the power of PC wizards/sorcerors? At the moment, those classes are heavily favoured and personally I'd like to see their power reduced. Link to comment
Andyr
The same rules apply in 3E/3.5E too, though characters can learn feats to make do without cheaper components. I thought about doing something similar in the past but didn't figure out a method. I worry it would prove more irritating than anything else in the end. I'd thought it could maybe be worthwhile, though, for some spells as a use for some gems (e.g. I think Raise Read needed a diamond, Animate Dead black onyx or something). Link to comment
Qualidor
I'm not convinced nerfing PC wizards is a good idea if NPC wizards don't suffer at all. That just makes enemy wizard even more overpowered. Link to comment
