There's  also a IWD NPC mod that... makes the party a punch of NPCs. Well... that's a story for another time. Being that it was originally designed for IWD & IWD-in-BG2. Grhm.

K4thos: Sorry for turning this topic into The Imp's mod recommendation thread. 😛

Nah, not very interested at the moment. I might try that sometime in the future. Actually, EET is the first mod that I'll be installing into Baldur's Gate ever once I'm done with my current run. Should be exciting.

Time is money but money is not time. A small donation would not afford any contributors the ability to take time away from their day jobs, so it would not get the mod made any faster. And taking time away from *making the mod* in order to put together a trailer or gameplay preview is not a great idea either.

There's no rule against accepting donations, but almost every modder has declined them when offered, IMHO for good reason.

Fair enough although you're not telling me a screenshot or two would take days to upload, are you? Don't want to come off as an ingrate but this mod could get a lot more exposure that way. Just so you fellas know that all your hard work is not going by unnoticed.

I kinda actually like the IwD's story... it's just that the PCs are quiet that might haunt you, but being a Fin, I can understand people that don't say a thing. "If you have nothing to say, the silence is gold."

Maybe the EET readme should contain all this stuff and I would expect that version to be published only after the IWD-in-EET comes out.

Oh no, don't get me wrong. I am very much in love with Icewind Dale's story and setting but the non-existent characters have made me import the portraits and sound sets from my favorite party members in BG2 into the game. They liven up the place with the few lines that are available from their sound files. Given the writing that has been done for this mod I am sure it will improve IWD by a wide margin.

I'm a bit busy right now and answering all these questions (content availability, balancing, scaling, NPCs) requires quite a lot work. So expect a wall of text in coming days, once I find some time to write it all down.

Just letting you guys know that the topic is not ignored.

Yeah, no worries, mate. I've actually begun playing IwD just so I can get a feel for the setting, difficulty and gameplay. I see now why it gets so much hate. It doesn't hold a candle to the high-fantasy grandeur of BG but as a side story it works quite well I think.

Then you should use the non-EE game, and just play the NEJ's.

My assumption is that one just exits due North from BG1 map and you eventually end up in the Easthaven. Looking at the map ... one might have to travel to Ulgoth's Beard, and then "pay for transportation to North", which takes a boat trip there.

Oh. I have no qualms with that. Do you think I could delay my trip up north until the beginning of SoA though? I mean, depending on the difficulty I could progress in Icewind Dale up to a certain point during the BG1 campaign and come back later in SoA or even ToB. Perhaps I should have rephrased my question. Have you made a final decision as to the difficulty curve and how monsters will scale compared to Baldur's Gate's level progression?

Also, thanks a lot for telling me about Never Ending Journey, Jarno! It seems like a real treat. It just doesn't seem very well-documented and I can't find a decent description of what it does exactly.

  6. Hi, everyone.

I've been scouring the internet for the vanilla BG2 sound sets to little avail. The one set I did find just a little while ago I could not get working with IWD:EE fully (for example, my characters wouldn't respond to being selected). More specifically, I am looking for Jaheira's, Imoen's, Aerie's, Anomen's, Minsc's and the Hero's (Aggressive from BG1 I believe but that one I can easily extract from the game files) sound sets that are used in Baldur's Gate 2. I've tried cross-referencing the sound file naming conventions for BG and IWD and I haven't found any major discrepancies so I'm wondering what may have gone wrong. Is there a chance the sound set that I downloaded is corrupt? If so, where could I get a working set?

    Here are the sound lists:

Can't find the sound list for BG2 so that may well be my main issue here.
If anyone helps me get this working, they will be my savior! I'm so close to making my IWD:EE playthrough more immersive. Thanks in advance for tips, download links and suggestions!

Here are the sound sets I downloaded: https://www.fileplanet.com/archive/p-44608/Baldur-s-Gate-II-Sound-Sets-All-16-NPCs

The worst part is that the sound set linked to above appears to have quite a few extra sound files but there is little indication as to what sndfile formatting it follows. Maybe someone on here knows?

It's such a shame because the sets seem to be mostly compatible with IWD:EE. My characters seem to behave exactly like they would in BG2 as far as banter and confirming my orders but I can't tell to what extent the sound files have been installed correctly. Other than that I've come across a thread on Beamdog's boards where some posters claim the party member selection sounds are broken when you're using custom sound sets but it's a few years old so I have no idea if that has been fixed in the meantime. Tried renaming a set to "custom1x" but my character would still not respond to their portrait being clicked on in the UI. I can live without subtitles but fixing this small issue would enhance immersion very much.

Just speaking for myself but when I wrote for this I did it out of a sense of love for the game and not for any expectation of payment. I'm kind of with Kathos on this, it would be weird to accept donations at this point. I cant imagine a few dollars is going to move the project along any faster anyway.

While I disagree with the notion that love and money are mutually exclusive (even AAA games can be labors of love, can't they?), I cannot force anyone to take the money I throw at them. Especially when I'm mistaken for a penniless peasant *cough* (no offense taken). Looking at the thread dates I'm very glad to have only discovered this project about a week ago since the long wait would have worn me out by now for certain. Could you guys give us a few screenshots or some footage of the mod please? Something to tide us over until a release candidate is available to download.

Edit: I find it odd how little of the mod has been exhibited thus far. Are you guys bound by non-disclosure agreements or something? If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say you keep in touch with Oster & Co. but don't mind my blabbering, I must have picked up quite a few bad habits since working as a journalist on-and-off. 😝

That's odd statement when you consider that all major community sites accepted donations from the community members. If it allows you to breathe a bit so the mod could be released earlier, it's a good thing.

If K4thos & Co. ever agree to such a thing I think it would be wise to come up with a trailer that shows off some gameplay and dialogue. A little hype would go a long way towards raking in some money. I would not underestimate the number of fans who are upset over not getting IWD2:EE. Also, having dealt with Beamdog's esteemed employees myself I must admit I have an axe to grind with their policies and business savvy (or lack thereof).

  9. Hi fellas,

I've read most of the threads on here from back to back and most of them are kind of old so I thought it would be a good idea to create a new one. My question (which is somewhat summed up in the title) is at what point in the main storyline will Icewind Dale be available to us? We all have our likes and dislikes so when it comes to me personally I much prefer the party I gather in Shadows of Amn to the one in the first game.

    Spoiler

I prefer them primarily because half the party members are not killed off like they are at the end of BG1 (now SoD). :(

Apologies if my thread is redundant.

nope. Accepting donations is not a thing in IE modding community. Also there are more people working on this mod (AWizardDidIt and Grimo write NPC dialogue content, Bubb indirectly makes it all possible with EEex, Ulb contributed worldmap icons, bob_veng helped with unifying IWD2 item names to follow BG convention).  So who is the money for, on what base it should be split, etc.? On top of it the project is created as a hobby and (like any other mod) is meant to be treated as a fair use/transformative work (or whatever the right term is), so I think no money should be involved by default.

In other words it's just not worth opening this can of worms, imo.

Forgive me if I sounded overbearing. You seem to have a list of everyone who's involved in the project and as far as who should get what cut of the dough I'm sure you could work it out. It's a bit beside the point though. Let me explain. Beamdog are a company with an attitude who have admitted they could not care less about the community and that IWD2 would not be getting an enhanced edition because it would be too much work (in other words, not economically feasible). While you cannot (for obvious reasons) charge money for a mod, I fail to see how modders are precluded from accepting donations if they have a bank account set up. I just think it extremely unfair for you guys to be doing Beamdog's work for them and get very little recognition for it in return. I hope you can see things from my point of view. Cheers to you and everyone else for all your hard work.
