You have an item ability under the backpack icon, it’s called “Arcane Spell Selection” or something like that. You know, like if you have the Sandthief Ring of invisibility, the place where you would use the invisibility power. That lets you choose one spell at a time, you use the ability repeatedly until you have chosen all you can for your level. After you level up, you use it again.

So far I see no evidence that this isn’t working with your UI mod - you just haven’t found the spell choice ability.

Thanks, I will try it later. Right now I uninstalled the "repick sorceror spells every three levels" component, and it worked fine. I will use your method when I get to BG2.

Are you using the item ability? Are you using UI mods that conflict with it?

Maybe it was a UI conflict? I used the Classic BG UI 1.5. When I created any sorceror, I had zero spell that I could pick. And if I use the repick spell ability, it told me "don't change any spell now".

    The arcanist works fine.

Darn it, I really like the classic UI.

Spell Shield blocks one antimagic ray. I set the power to 10 for this one while leaving the types in place. Spell Shield (and nothing else) will still block a ray, but will be used up in the process.

Sounds good and what I originally thought should happen.

To be honest, I just hope Antimagic ray is truly a cone of ray in front of the beholder so you can avoid it by flank the beholder, or position yourself through Haste. Every time I want to pick up BG2 again, the idea of fighting beholders just scares the shit out of me.

  4. Korgan, Keldorn, Anomen, and Minsc all desperately need Gauntlets of Dexterity in the early SoA. But you must be a mad man to rush the Unseeing Eyes' Lair to get those gauntlets. It feels like the Cloak of Mirroring, by the time you get it, it is so late in the game and you have already overcome so many challenges without it, you throw it in your backpack and think, meh.

I think it may be for the better to smooth the earlier game experience of a fighter by swapping the Girdle of Hill Giant and the Gauntlets of Dexterity. The Girdle is more of a luxury than a necessity. Korgan, Minsc, and Anomen definitely don't need it. Keldorn and Jareira, well, I never take them as damage dealers. Besides, all the other strength girdles are out there in the wild, why not move the Hill Giant one to the dungeon as well?

Another tweak I was thinking is that, is it possible to allow Heal and Regeneration to go through Improved Invisibility? Fighters don't have many ways to stack their AC. When you tank the Golem/Vampire/Cambion, 4 AC is quite massive. But if you get hit by a crit, you cannot be healed. I find this limitation makes this spell much less useful. Mages don't need Improved Invisibility, they have Stoneskin and Protection from Magical Weapons, I don't think it is wise relying  on mages' AC to tank. The save bonus seems good, but enemy mages will cast True Seeing. Clerics have Entropy Shield, Draw Upon Holy Might. Druids have Iron Skin. Fighters only have their naked butts(Remove Magic, Remove Magic) getting spanked by all kinds of evil creatures. Maybe we can show some love for our good old fighters?

I honestly don't blame you or anyone else that has trouble figuring out how some stuff works - I had been working on SRR for a couple of years before I was made to notice and thus finally understand the mechanics of Improved Invisibility + Non-Detection vs. Detect Invisibility/True Seeing. It doesn't help that the descriptions of these spells in normal SR simply don't explain how the mechanics work at all. As for Spell Thrust, the functionality is quite different compared to vanilla but you could be forgiven for thinking it's the same at a glance, especially if you haven't had the opportunity to study each and every spell and their differences yet, :).

You are really helpful. Thank you very much! I promise next time I post anything I will read the spell description at least twice.😆

  6. Okay, I did some tests on BG and BG2. It turns out I don't even need to dual class.

BG(2.5EE): Right after recruiting Imoen, level her up, spend the 15% thief skills. Kick her out, give myself exp which is enough to level up Imoen. Pick Imoen up, she magically gains 15% thief skills again.

BG2(2.6EE): Mostly the same, recruit Yoshimo, level him up normally, spend the thief skills, escape the dungeon. Dump him inside Copper Coronet, give myself exp in order to level up Yoshimo. Pick Yoshimo up gain, profit!

I tried to change both of their kits, the results are the same.

If you can't reproduce this, I can reinstall BG and only install SCS to see if there are any differences.

Don't know if you're using regular SR (which doesn't try to explain these mechanics at all in the spell descriptions of Non-Detection, True Seeing, or Detect Invisibility) or SRR (which does), but...

    1. The second level arcane spell "Detect Invisibility" (or True Seeing) allows the mage that casts it to cast all of the rest of their spells through improved invisibility. Which means you could also cast e.g. Secret Word to dispel the Non-Detection (or just Breach them).

    2. ...Or, even simpler, Spell Thrust does not require invisibility targeting (AoE spell), and you can use it to dispel the Non-Detection which then allows you to cast e.g. True Seeing Detect Illusion or Oracle to dispel improved invisibility for everyone in your party (as would a cleric's Invisibility Purge...but Detect Invisibility would only strip the regular invisibility, NOT the improved invisibility).

Thanks for the input. I think I let Nalia cast Detect Invisiblity, then told Edwin to cast Secret Word, which was a habit. It didn't occur to me that Detect Invisibility grants the caster the ability to see through Improved Invisibility without dispelling it. I actually like it. Before that, only one mage needs to cast True Seeing, and every one else will benefit from it. Nice!

I also didn't read the description of Spell Thrust carefully so I didn't know it was an AoE now. I apologize. Installing a spell overhaul mod without reading it in detail is very amateur. So I just need to cast two Spell Thrust, the first one takes down Spell Deflection, the second one takes down Non-detection, then let Viccy casts Invisibility Purge. Bang, that Rakshasa is naked now.

Relearning how to mage fencing is cool.

  8. At this moment, this combination feels stronger than Mislead. Yuan-Ti Mage, Rakshasa will use these. I believe some mages cast these as well. According to my knowledge, until you have a mage who can cast Piece Shield, there is nothing you can do about it. Piece Magic, Ruby Ray might work but you still can't Breach. Also, Yuan-Ti Mage is not high level mage, yet you need level 8 spell to take it down effectively. Waiting for 4 rounds, just letting them cast Remove Magic, Breach, Slow, Cloudkill is devastating. And I do believe Rakshasa has more then one cast of Protection from Magical Weapons.

My strategy now is enter and leave, because luckily they don't rebuff with Non-detection. And it is very frustrating.

  9. My impression on Beholder is that it will strip you butt naked with anti-magic ray no matter what, then petrify you, lastly blast you into millions of stone pieces. Yet on my recent playthrough(Hardcore difficulty), they seemed to be dazzled by me shining Spell Shield, not be able to do anything about it. They still stole my shining shield and cape though and zapped my ass with lightning, but they just couldn't take down the Spell Shield, which was hilarious.

I have to ask: did I broken the Beholder AI with my mod installation? This is not an intended feature right?

  10. I can confirm this, although I need to do more tests to find the exact culprit of this issue.

It will most likely happen when I try to abuse this feature and duel Imoen or Nalia at a higher level. For example, Nalia is supposed to dual at level 4. In order to give her max Find Trap and Detect Illusion, I delay the duel until level 7 or 9. After the duel, you dump her, farm some experience, recruit her. If she tries to catch up with your level, the game sometimes tells me she has unspent thief points. Imoen seems to get another 15% thief points after I take her at spellhold guaranteed.(after abusing this feature, haven't try this normally).

I uninstalled steam using IObit Uninstaller and THEN went and deleted every thing (even hidden files) in the Steam program 86x folder then I reinstalled it and it didnt work (the game does but the Tweaks Anthology still won't). Is there ANYTHING I can try before I try RESETTING my PC in the Recovery tab of the Update & Security section of Windows 10 settings.

How about install the game outside the `Program(x86)` folder? My steam is inside c:\Program Files(x86)\steam, but my games are located in g:\games\steamlibrary.

Make sure there is no space or non ascii character leading to your BG folder.

For example, my game is located at `g:\games\steamlibrary\steamapp\common\`

Hi! I tried this solution out but somehow I'm getting this error below. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is it because my BigSur is 11.5 already?

ERROR: Unable to find CHITIN.KEY in:

    .

    .

    ..

    ../..

    ../../..

    /

FATAL ERROR: Failure("Unable to find CHITIN.KEY: run me in an Infinity Engine game directory")

You didn't run the weidu command from the game directory.

Type `pwd` from the terminal and tell me you see. I am pretty sure I can help you with this.

Run weidu from terminal manually, you'll at least see the error.

I used to have a macbook... after some time I just installed Ubuntu on it.

Run weidu from terminal manually worked fine! I can't believe it. My HERO.

To help anyone who ran into this thread with same problem:

    1. Download the OSX Tweaks file, unzip it, copy the `cdtweaks` folder to your Game. It is usually located in {YOUR_HOME}/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Baldur\'s\ Gate\ Enhanced\ Edition/.

    2. Download the latest WeiDu binary from GitHub. https://github.com/WeiDUorg/weidu/releases Grab the Mac version.

    3. Unzip your WeiDu zip, grab the weidu and copy-paste it into your game folder.

    4. Open your terminal, use the command `cd` to change the current directory to your game folder.

    5. Type `./weidu cdtweaks/setup-cdtweaks.tp2`. Voila!

    6. If macOS complains about permissions, open `Security` from the `System Settings`, in the `General` tab, click `Open Anyway` (Yes macOS I know what I am doing, stop treating me like a retard)

    7. If your `weidu` binary doesn't have the executable permission, type `chmod +x weidu` or `chmod 755 weidu`.

    8. It didn't happend on my Mac, but should `weidu` says it has no permission to change folder, go to `Security`->`Privacy`->`Full Disk Access`, add `weidu`.

Did you delete the "weidu" file in your game folder and replace it with the one linked in this post?

I hear you about upgrading. I tend to find a version of the OS and stick with it for as long as possible. I stayed on Mountain Lion for a loooong time... that was a great system. Then I got a newer Macbook that didn't run ML, so now I have Mojave on it; I really like Mojave, I'm not going to change it anytime soon. Probably not until I get another new laptop. Apple provides security updates to older OSes for years and years, I don't feel a compelling need to stay with the most current OS.

Yes I did. Still nothing happened. I checked WeiDu's Github and it says Mac package had been updated to supported Big Sur(11.01), but my system is 11.2.

I really tried to make it work so I downloaded WeiDu git repo, but I couldn't compile it properly due to some compatible issues with Ocaml. I don't know the language thus not being able to troubleshoot. Guess I have to struck with vanilla  BG.

PS. Should have stayed with Mojave just like you do. I don't even understand why I kept upgrade the system... Guess I was feebleminded.
