  1. These mods may cause an issue:

The Expanded Thief Stronghold causes severe problems with Amber's quest if it is installed after Amber. Installing the Expanded Thief Stronghold before Amber should solve the issue. According to Blucher in the Expanded Thief Stronghold's version 2.11 (released 23rd July 2006) this issue has been fixed. This is good news to Tsujatha fans too.

just a question, why is it good news for tsujatha, were there some issues? i have tsujatha installed and there is ono info in his readme file about any conflicts with expanded thief stronghold (ETS) mod

Well, like Amber Tsujatha appends a area script that older versions of ETS overwrote. In both cases isntalling either of the mods before ETS would have caused problems. Most likely this issue never got back to Sillara and that why it isn't in the read-me.

my game is tdd, ets (older version 1.08 i guess) and than amber and the quest for realeasing amber and later collecting her stuff worked fine

    Good to hear.

  2. TDDsinTDDEngBeta4

    what about full TDD (weidu)?

Well, the list was for mods that Beta testers had installed when testing Amber. No one confessed having TDD installed, so I really cannot guarantee anything. ;) But since it's the WeiDU version I don't see why it shouldn't work just fine. Of course Amber does not have any TDD specific content because I've never played that mod. :)

  3. Pinned.

As mentioned above interested parties should contact us via <amber@welho.net>. However, it would probably be best to wait at least until version 2 since I'm actually modifying some dialogs for that.

All NPCs that have their MORALEBREAK stat set to 5 (like the Bio-NPCs) instead of 0 (like PCs). These include Hubelpot, Kelsey, Solaufein, Kivan of Shilmista, Willie Bruce, Goo, Kova (BTL), Kulyok's Xan, Tiax, Iylos and Jatsey's Ajantis.

The Expanded Thief Stronghold causes severe problems with Amber's quest if it is installed after Amber. Installing the Expanded Thief Stronghold before Amber should solve the issue. Any mod that uses all 16 free songlist.2da entries. Generally mods don't do that, but if you have many mods that already use a few entries each, your song list might become full. The easiest way to check this is to go to the override folder in your main BG folder and see if songlist.2da is there. You can open the file in an ordinary text editor. If there are numbered entries from 0 all the way up to 99, complete with Name and Resource entries, your song list is full.

Tashia v2.05g: This issue has not been tested, but it seems that Amber's music might play instead of Tashia's if Tashia is installed after Amber. This issue (which exists between Tashia and all mods that add song list entries) can be avoided by installing Tashia before any mods that add entries to the songlist.2da, including Amber. This issue has been fixed in the latest vesion of Tashia (Tashia_Remix_v1.0).

From version 2 onwared of Amber is no longer compatible with earlier versions (v.32 or earlier) of Item Upgrade, unless IU is installed after Amber. Please use v33 of Item Upgrade, which will work regardless of the installation order.

Old versions of The Rogue Rebalancing Pack should be installed before Amber. This issue has been fixed in the newer versions of The Rogue Rebalancing Pack (v3.6 and newer).

According to Sikret the version 4 (and newer?) of Improved Anvil is incompatible with Amber v 2.4 (and older). This problem will hopefully be avoided in the next version of Amber. This issue has been adressed in the latest vesion of Amber (v. 2.5).

  7. Compatibility:

This mod is designed to work with Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn with the Throne of Bhaal expansion pack. The mod should be compatible with other WeiDU mods. See following posts for details and exceptions.

Amber's romance with the protagonist is scripted to end if a multiromance script for bio-NPCs is used, avoiding lagging when scripts try to change variables over and over again.

    Known issues:

You need to have the Throne of Bhaal expansion installed even though Amber currently only has Shadows of Amn content. This is because Amber uses the MakeGlobal() scripting action, included only in Throne of Bhaal.

If you're using an existing save game and have visited the prison in the Government district before installing Amber, the quest leading up to her joining will get stuck.

Although Amber will not use helmets, 2-handed swords or halberds, or shields bigger than a buckler, these items don't appear red in her inventory. We're really sorry about this. :)

Some of the lines that were originally intended to be voiced are still missing. We hope that they can be added later.

The Vanim NPC mod by Maus uses the same prefix as Amber (M#), as does blacksmith Ruad (v19) by Moonfruit. There should be no duplicate file or variable names, and you can safely use both mods with Amber. However, we do not know how many German language mods Maus has made, and whether they contain file or variable names duplicating those in Amber. Please do let us know if you find some.

The mysterious "tilesets not unpacking" -issue.

Remember to check out the bugs reported for the current version.

  8. The mod features not only romance and friendship tracks for the protagonist, but also a romance track for a second PC in a multiplayer game (Player 2). This feature is also exploitable in a single player game if you want enjoy two concurrent romances without cheating.

Although the following FAQ might make the Player 2 romance seem unnecessarily complicated, it is not so in practice! All you have to do is to create another PC in the party slot 2 and go. Also single players can start a multiplayer game, create two characters, begin play and save the game, copy that save game into their single player savegame folder, load it in a single player game and play a normal single player game with the two PCs.

    Q. What's the difference between the protagonist and another PC? Or the difference between PC and NPC?

    A. The protagonist is your main character, the Bhaalspawn and the only character you create in the single player game mode. By another PC (player character), I mean additional character(s) that you can create for your party in the multiplayer gaming mode. NPCs (non-player character) on the other hand include the various characters that you can meet during the game and who can join your party. Amber is one of these NPCs. While you can control their actions in battle and their inventories, they talk and banter on their own with other characters. You don't get to choose their dialogue options in those conversations.

    Q. So, I have to create another PC in the party slot 2. What if I change the party formation during the game?

    A. While the non-protagonist PC must be in the party slot 2 for Amber to romance him, the party formation (that you change by dragging the character portrait) during gameplay does not matter. The actual character order can be viewed in the character arbitration screen (multiplayer mode) or in the save/load game screens (look at the order of the small portraits). If you have created the other PC in slot 2, that's not going to change unless you kick him/her out of the party and take him back. You should protect him from being turned into stone or getting imprisoned, though (as these will remove him from the party).

    Q. What happens if Amber is romancing Player 2 and I kick him out of the party. Will she continue romancing, say, Korgan?

    A. If the character in slot 2 is no longer a PC, the romance will stop. Amber won't romance Bio-NPCs or those modded NPCs that her script recognises (see the Compatibility thread for more info). If the PC is returned to the second character slot, the romance will continue. (This can be accomplished by dismissing all characters but the protagonist from the party and taking them back in the correct order.)

    Q. I want Amber to romance Player 2. How can I make sure that Amber will not try to start a romance with my protagonist?

    A. You have two options. You can make sure that the protagonist is not male, or that either his charisma or his intelligence is below 12. Alternatively, you can choose a very clearly phrased dialogue option in the end of Amber's joining dialogue that introduces her to your faithful sidekick.

    Q. Does that Player 2 have the same requirements for the romance as the Protagonist?

    A. Yes the Player 2 has to be a male with both intelligence and charisma of 12 or higher.

    Q. Will the be ToB content for the Player 2 romance?

    A. Yes.

Any further questions regarding the Player 2 romance option may be submitted to this thread.

  9. Name: Amber

    SoA Script: m#amber

    Romance is serious number: 2

    Romance kill number: 3

    Can kill other romances?: 1

Can be killed by other romances?: 1

Note: Amber can also romance player2, so you should also check that M#AmberMatch is not 3 before killing anything.

Added, but this will almost certainly need testing.

  10. The final list for voice talents in Amber's SoA part is here:

  11. Q: How come it requires ToB? Is it some scripting or spells or wild mages or something?

A: First of all, some scripts in the mod use *SpellRES actions. Although you can technically use them with just SoA by adding them to your action.ids, we decided to play on the safe side. I think along the way there was also some other reason for requiring ToB (I think it might have been a ToB spell that I used somewhere), but I cannot remember it right now. At some point, when I go through everything once more, I might check whether we ended up using something ToB-specific or whether we could just have the mod append the missing SpellRES actions to action.ids (if they are not there already) and have it work without ToB. But for now, I *think* you will need ToB.

All right, I looked into the ToB issue and found out that we use ToB only action MakeGlobal() in our area script, and I don't think that I want to go back fiddling with those - not now at least... Areas have caused enough stress as it is.

So, Amber will require ToB. Sorry about that, all you who never got around buying ToB. :)

  12. In the unlikely event that I one day wake up certain that Amber would be better off as an aasimar that portrait might do well. :) More work from the artist (including the full painting of my avatar) can be found here: http://peachysticks.deviantart.com/

Amber's default portrait can be seen here. I don't think I'll be adding alternatives - I'm quite attached to the one Darios edited from Amber's IWD original. You are of course free to change it to whatever you like better. :)

EDIT: My avatar has been changed from the one discussed here.

  13. Question: will she join the PC if it is evil or neutral?

Yes, she has no way of really knowing whether you are evil, good or neutral on your initial meeting. Of course, if you treat her badly or do somehing really evil she will leave you eventually. Naturally, I don't think that evil characters could not act reasonably if it suits their goals. Also, a high charisma and/or intelligence will help you to keep her for a while longer.

I admit that the mod is probably best suited for good or neutral PCs. However, it is possible to make evil or questionable decisions throughout her quests.

  14. It's not a bad idea, though.

Her becoming leader comment is already on the lines of the PC being out of his/her mind, but one-time talk on the subject would not do any harm. Of course I can't make any promises, but if the muse is favourable...

  15. Q: I was just wondering why her charisma was so low? Is it because of her physical features or her personality?

Heh, this seems to be a serious concern to many. Who cares if she's weidu or not, but why the charisma is so low.

It's both physical and personality issue.

To ordinary citizen she has very outlandish features, even though her fiendish traits are not extremely apparent from further away (no horns, wings or tail(s)). To some more sensitive people she also 'reeks' of odd and out of place, which can be very uncomfortable before you get used to it. To seasoned adventurer this might not be so bad as they are bound to have seen many strange things.

Amber is also very good with bad first impressions, especially if she finds the person somehow threatening. She's not a leader either and for example, I would never consider a stronghold for her. Not that either the fighter or the thief strongholds would suit her anyway.

Without revealing too much I might add that she's also not terrible consisted with certain opinions she has. The PC gets to address the issue though.

  16. Amber's portrait was edited from the Icewind Dale II original by Darios.
