HOW TO EDIT .BAM FILES

How do I open the .BAM files in a program like PAINT or something so I can change the color of objects/weapons/etc?

You don't directly - you need to export them to their constituent frame formats which are essentially bitmaps (.bmp files). Those you can open with any graphics program. Take a look at BAM Batcher to dissemble the BAM frames.
