NPCs level up forever

So I installed the NPC customization component, and it worked fine for Imoen. I was even able to select a kit when dualing her. But Aerie, Anomen, and Minsc have all leveled indefinitely instead of stopping at their intended levels. No idea what the problem is!

Did you install Level 1 NPCs mods components ?

Erhm, sorry, but the characters can't level up forever... they run out of numbers between 1 and 50. So either they just got too much XP or something else... and what that is, is what you have to explain. For example, if you installed the SCS's NPC customization and Level 1 NPCs, the components kinda very much try to do the same thing which breaks the game, so you can't install both. The SCS and level 1 NPCs combo once for example made it so that the Character when joining party, would be at level zero and having XP to level up, the player could level them up... which would normally set the character to it's normal form, but the reason it didn't work was that the characters script would reset before it was over. Which lead to the character having and extra invisible item that made them unkillable like a troll and still be constantly at level zero, which meant they could relevel up just after the player leveled the character up.

Repeat, DO NOT install both Level 1 NPCs and SCS's NPC customization, choose ONE. And then it's done.

Ouh, and open up the weidu.log from your game folder with Notepad and copy paste it's content to a post.

I didn't bother going all the way to the cap, but yeah, whatever is supposed to stop them at their intended level isn't working. I only have the SCS component installed. 

I managed to work around it by consoling their XP to the intended level after leveling them up the right number of times, but every time they gain a new level I have to do it again.

weidu.log's content... and by saying that she/he is level 7, do you mean level 7 and level 18 on a secondary not yet gained dualed from class... or just 7th level. And what kit/class/ etc combo. There's a lot of variables in this that you might not be able to detect that can influence this and the more info you give the greater chance it is that we catch it ! If you just give enough info.

This was a solid work-around for the issue for me.  I had turned off AI after Imoen, but before Minsc.  He kept leveling.

I reloaded from the initial "meet Imoen" auto save, and kept AI on.  Minsc stopped leveling at 8.

I've encountered exactly the same problem with my new BG2:EE runthrough: NPCs leveling up without a limit and being unkillable like a troll. Imoen and my main char are fine and Jaheira aswell, but everyone recruited afterwards I can level up straight till 8 mio. XP, starting from 0 XP.

I know I've turned off the AI at the start because Imoen kept casting Spells and I really like to micromanage every char. But turning it on now in the Copper Coronet doesn't yield any positive results. Anomen and Korgan can still level up without a limit.

In order to make it work, do I have to restart again and never turn the AI off?

Found the solution. The AI needs to be toggled on when an NPC joins your party, respectivly when you level him/her up for the first time from Level 0 in order for the component to work normally. If the AI is turned off then, it doesn't matter if you turn it back on later, the NPC will level to the max and cannot die.

What AI needs toggled? Having the same issue. Do you mean the AI in the script section of the PC information screen?

You just need to not disable the AI by pushing the party AI (the lantern in the bottom right screen) off.
