elhran Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 I played BG1 (and BG2) with my sons when the games were first released on disk years ago. They are grown and gone, I'm now retired and am getting ready to do BG1 Enhanced Edition with several mods, including Romantic Encounters. I think I'm just being a little "thick headed", but I don't quite fully understand the extent of the differences between "BG-Style" and "Descriptive" in the install choices. I know one is dialogue based and one is descriptive etc., but would I lose any of the flavor or "immersive" feel of the game by my choice. I guess I'm asking if one is more abbreviated than the other or for example, does descriptive feel more like a narrative observation rather than like I'm part of the action. Sorry to be dull-witted but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Guest Thimblerig Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 Hey Elhran - glad you're giving this a try. "Dialogue-based" is exactly what standard BG/BG2 gives you - just what the character is saying. So: Miss Blanc: "It's a terrible story. Truly terrible." Miss Blanc: "But... I'm glad you asked." Miss Blanc: "My feelings about icecream go back to my ninth year, when my father took myself and my two siblings to the Duke's Gardens..." Descriptive is more like a novel: Miss Blanc: "It's a terrible story. Truly terrible." (Her grey eyes flicker with repressed emotion.) Miss Blanc: (Biting her lip, she sighs, then continues.) "But... I'm glad you asked." Miss Blanc: "My feelings about icecream go back to my ninth year, when my father took myself and my two siblings to the Duke's Gardens..." You'd get the same basic encounter with either style, but a bit more detail with "descriptive". It's a matter of taste, basically. Quote
elhran Posted December 7, 2019 Author Posted December 7, 2019 Thank you so much for your answer...and so quick! You certainly made everything clear. I'm going to use Descriptive...I like the extra detail, and as you say, more like a novel, which I really enjoy. Thanks again !! Quote
jastey Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 Hi Thimblerig! It's nice to see you here. @elhran To add to Thimblerig's information: bg1re also adds encounters for the PC's quick relief (amongst a long list of really beautiful quests that have nothing to do with that). Descriptive version for these encounters really do mean description of what the characters are doing (no porn). Just a small heads up. Quote
