  1. Someone over at SHS might make an NPC named Akron! If he gets there first, you might have to change the name!

    [p.s. good luck]

Hehe, I was thinking Akron would be Aklon's Kozakuran name, so it's still mine.

Thanks for the well wishes both of you, and those cookies and/or honey bread must have agreed with someone, because I've finally found a some time to do some more work. Hopefully something worthy of the progress thread will be ready in a day or two, but I have just finished a large banter that involved the PC quite heavily.

  2. Thanks Ankhesenpaaten, yep, Aklon's not lost, just limping. t's beena bad two weeks for writing, and cap that with a PC interaction heavy banter and I'm not having a good month. Keep an eye out, I'll try to post some real progress soon!

Glad you've made some more progress. I can't wait to see how he deals with Edwina. ^^

*donates some bread, milk and honey*

Thank you, thank you, hopefully everyone's largess will get my muse murmering in my ear between bites.

And as for how he deals with Edwina, well you'll see soon enough (well, I hope). :)

    I missed ice cream??
You did fall asleep. We'll stop the next town over.

    Haven't been around here in a while, great to see stuff's still chugging along, especially with all the roadblocks thrown in the way. It seems you've had terrible luck recently. ^^;

Honestly, I'd beg for another spoiler, but I'm terrible with those. I'm one of those people who will take a look at the last page before I begin a book. @_@

*also donates bread, milk and honey*

And thank you too. I don't want to reveal too much about the plot, but I might see about a small spoiler when I've got Edwin done and moved on to the next NPC.

  3. Thanks for the kind words everyone, I'm glad there's still a few people hanging around to watch me limp through an attempt at making an NPC. ;)

Yay, for progress! ;) (hides cattle prod) Good to hear that the computer is fixed and banters continue. I may even need to bring Edwin into the party for once just to see the banters.

My latest foray into computer upgrading was to scrounge some ram, from another system I have lying around, pop it into my current (although old) system and voila it worked. Double the ram, happy os and no flames in sight! :) Although I also seem to be currently surrounded by old, non working, pc peripherals, rapidly encroaching my floorspace. (I think a trip to the computer recycling centre is in order. I mean how many keyboards/printers/scanners/connector leads can one person use?! Arrgh! :) )

But you never know when one will break, and if you recycle everything, then where will you be? Off to buy another, that's where! At least scavenging RAM is a flame free option. Then again, I would have said that about hard drive until a few weeks ago...

Wait, was that a cattle prod?

I bet the banters with ol' Edwin are pretty good. It will be interesting to see Aklon deal with Edwin. I feel confident that Aklon will have no trouble holding his own with the

"All Sarcastic, I mean, Superior One." :(

Ah, well, you'll have to see, won't you? :)

Keep up the good work and may the muses camp out at your doorstep, or better yet, move on in to your home! What's a few more mouths to feed? Cookies, anyone? Or do they make a "muse-chow" :)??

I think you're supposed to leave our bread soaked in honey and milk for them.

You ain't kidding. I had my NWN2 mod 95% done, and poof.

Ouch! :O That has to suck! I hope at least some of that work was retrievable somehow.

  4. Ouch, how did I go three months without posting any progress?

So here's an update to let everyone know how things are going. I've had a badly real-life disturbed couple of months for progress, not least including an attempt to upgrade my computer which resulted in two weeks of downtime while a series of faulty components fried a hard drive and needed multiple return trips to sort out the problems.

Anyway, Edwin banters continue, with seven done so far and about three to go, plus one PC banter involving Edwin. My pace has picked up in the last couple of weeks and I'm hoping to get all of these done before the end of the month.

I'd like to thank everyone again for their patience in sticking with me and I'd like to let you know I'll be trying my hardest to at least finish main writing before the end of this year.

  5. Shame to hear about your computer and I hope it gets fixed soon.

Oh dear, that sounds particularly nasty!!! :p

Good luck getting your putter back on track!! As someone who just spent a week tinkering in her own computer (and almost went insane because of it, long story!), I really feel for you. :D

Indeed, technology's awesome until the day it fails you!

A good example for always backing up your work . . .

I have an external hard drive that automatically backs up for me. (I love my Mac :D )I would be lost without it.

Glad to hear that your work was not lost!

    CelticRose

Thanks for the sympathies everyone, computers are indeed awesome until they crap out on you without any viable explanation. :D

And very much a lesson for those doing anything like modding: Backups rule!

  6. Short answer, not yet, but I promise we'll stop for ice-cream soon.

Long answer, I'm coming along with Edwin's banters, about half way through now, though I have hit a bit of a snag in recent weeks with the Modder's traditional hard drive crash (am I in the club for real now guys?). Or actually, Modder's traditional hard drive vents fire while attempting a computer upgrade...

Fortunately, I have everything backed up, so no data has been lost, aside from one day's random notes, but I am currently without a computer, so writing has been slowed while I try and organise to have the thing fixed.

  7. Aye, I think the Full Amber would be the way to go. If you release piecemeal you're only going to get puppy-eyed requests for the next bit, and the next bit, and so on. :(

  8. Good Gravy! I spy progress!

OK, after a hideously busy Real Life couple of months, Cernd's banters are done like a thing which is done. As you can see, it has cost me my ability to make witty comparisons.

That aside, I'm now on to Edwin, and hope to have him done in a similar amount of time, due to the slightly more complicated relationship he has with Aklon. My thanks continue to go out to all of you who have failed to have me assassinated for tardiness and in return I will continue to keep updating you all as progress happens. :(

  9. Terribly sorry, we're not quite there yet, we're still a few towns over. Thanks for the vote of confidence though, I hope Aklon lives up to your expectations.

I personally don't like Anomen, but I'm aware that he has his good points, and though Aklon and Anomen never become bosom chums, I figured that each has a chance to find some respect for the other in those good points, given the right circumstances.

Don't expect it to be a fast process though. :(

This week has been especially bad for writing due to insane RL commitments, however, I'm hoping to polish off Cernd's banters in a few days and move on to the next NPC. After that is quests, the friendship path, interjects and coding.

All I can keep saying is soon, and thanks to everyone for their patience. :)

  10. The easiest thing to do would be to to edit the MXSPLWIZ.2da file using NearInfinity or something similar so that a mage gets 9 spells of each level. It should apply to all mages and kits equally, but non-party NPCs get most spells assigned directly or by script, so most of them should recieve no benefit.

For how to put that into a specific kit, you'd have to hunt about a bit on this sub-forum to see how to package things up.

  11. Yeah, the jump from 3rd to second edition is a long one when it comes to stats, particularly as there is no maximum human stat, so +1 or 2 bump to a stat is relatively minor in 3rd edition, but huge in second.

It would be quite ironic if Aklon was the best at killing illithids... you'll see why when I'm done. :) Personally, I've always favoured raw AC against them, to stop the brain drain hitting.

And thanks for the encouragement F8ed1, I'll try and make sure Aklon's out as soon as I can finish him.

  12. Well, I was certainly off-target in that previous post. However, after a rather large gap, there is some progress in the progress thread for a change!

Anomen's romance/personal conflict with Aklon is now completely finished, and I am now moving on to gathering my thoughts for Cernd banters and interactions. Since there's not so much chatty-chatty with Cernd, he should be out of the way in much less time. I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot and try to give dates this time though. :)

  13. Thanks for stopping to post, F8ed1 and thanks for the input, as well as the vote of confidence. I can certainly appreciate where you're coming from, and I did debate doing that, but I've deliberately put Aklon's CON at 13 so that he doesn't get any bonus hit points, and I'll probably set his base HP on the lowish side.

The rationale I have is that Aklon's done enough in life to have a better than average constitution, but he relies on efficiency of action in his travels and more on avoiding being hit in the first place than on being able to take the damage in combat.

Now, depending on how he looks in testing, I mght nudge up his HP or his CON a bit, but also in terms of game balance, the low hitpoints are part of the offset for his ability to create healing potions using his pharmacopoeia.

And somehow I missed the post by Moongaze. Well, extremely belated thanks for those words of encouragement. :)

  14. Thank you, Tarayani for the belated Valentine's wishes. I kind of thought I might get away with it this year without anyone asking.

However, since you and Celticrose asked so nicely (and since I'm feeleing better for nearly being done with Anomen), I'll see what I can dig up tonight that's not seen the light of day before... :)

And thanks for the hit of praise there StarcrosS, it's gratifying that you picked Aklon to de-lurk in for the first time. Welcome to G3, and if you do end up playing Aklon, I hope he's as enjoyable as he looks incomplete. :)

  15. It's not exactly major progress, but I've just finished an Aklon/Anomen conflict talk which was pretty extensive due to the PC being able to interject in the whole affair. The class specific options in it were taking me a long while to write in between work and family things over the Christmas break. I should be forging ahead with a bit more speed now. *knocks on wood*

  16. Any chance of another Christmas preview present of a lovetalk/banter....or conflict :) ? Pretty please!! (*Hides cattle prod and proffers passionfruit sorbet instead....also makes a mental note to halt her habitual alliteration* ;) )

    I second this wonderful idea . . .

'Tis a lovely Christmas tradition, (and hopefully the last holiday season necessary for a pre-published mod pre-view  )

After all, it is the season for giving, true?

(Have I used a sufficient amount of buttering-up?)

    :help:

    Celtic Rose

a little preview wouldn't be bad *shifty eyes*

    XD

A little preview is NEVER bad.. :bday:

Hmm passionfruit sorbet and alliteration. And yes, it is a season for giving. Alright, there will be a Christmas preview again this year *eyes the cattle prod* not today, but I'll go through the Aklon/Anomen conflict and see what juicy bits I can dig up for your expert reviews. :bday:

I'd like some, too. (Admittedly, because I'm wondering how much better than my mods this one's going to be, but still).

I don't think that'll be anything to be concerned about.

  17. Thanks Silver and Vestrael, and everyone else for your patience!

Sadly, I can still promise no dates, but I'm close to having the Aklon/Anomen conflict wrapped up and I'm hoping to tear into the rest of the banters during the X-mas break. So no Aklon for Christmas, but still early next year some time.

  18. Thank you for the kind words, I'll be trying to make sure Aklon's worth all the encouragement that's been dished out to me.

I don't like to make estimates these days, as they've almost all been shot down. I was hoping to have writing wrapped up by the end of the year and move on to coding, but realistically, I won't be able to finish up until at least early next year.

Also, welcome to G3, enjoy your stay. :p

  19. It's a little of both. Larger mods take a longer time to write, and there are some that did take several years of writing to get finished. Also, some authors write faster that others and/or have more free time. I have been at this for an embarrassingly long time though, especially given that I said he was half finished when I announced him.

Sadly, my amount of personal free time varies trememndously, as while my work is certainly interesting, it doesn't follow standard business hours. Happily, I've got a clear space coming up in my schedule (knock on wood) in which I'm hoping to blaze through as much of the remaining writing as I can.
