I just installed baldur's gate 2 and TOB with a lot of mods

 

My install order:

-SOA

-patch SOA

-TOB

-patch TOB

-BG2 fixpack

-store and items mods

-NPC mods

-NPC related mods

-kits mods

-quest and challenges mods

-tweaks and rules changes in last

 

Here is my problem... my game crash at the very neginning...when i click on Accept my vreated new char...why? i have no clue... some 1 can hlp me out here?

well i don'T know what resolution I should do because iknow nothing of modding and i know your community here is still active and know how to deal with this kind of problem so i am begging for hlp...

 

I noticed some of you report some kind of log also when you have a problem how i manage to get that log?

I'm asking about your screen resolution, and it doesn't have anything to do with installed mods.

 

You see, Tutu is not supported at resolutions higher than 800x600, and attempting to do so oftentimes results in CTD on character generation, or when opening the inventory page. You can check by running config.exe and looking at your resolution settings.

 

You could post your WeiDU.log. You'd do that by opening your game directory. If you use EasyTutu, that will most likely be under the path C:\Program Files\BaldursGateTutu. If you are using Tutu v4, that would most likely be under the path C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA. There will be a file in there labeled WeiDU.log. You can open it with any text editor. Notepad will work. Then you'd copy the contents and paste it in your post.

I just tried all 4 possible resolution and i still have my problem so it must be with the mods i think...

If the character you are trying to create is using one of these kits, that might be the problem.

Not saying it is, but I don't know them, and I can't spot anything else wacky about your installation.

It still crash to deskop...I think that it maybe BG2 FIxpack because it says in the readme (no baldurdash or crash) idid not install baldurdash but does some mods that ihave installed include them?

I do not think it is the BG2 Fixpack. I use it on my own installation, and I don't get CTD.

 

After checking my own WeiDU.log, I see that I have installed the same components as you have.

I'm not a modder but do play a lot of the mods and in the past have had CTD problems. Sometimes, it was because some mods did not play nice with each other. Other times because there was just simply a bad install of the game itself or a mod file itself.

 

When it became too aggravating, I would simply start over with a fresh install of the game. To save yourself time in the future, especially if you want to play a lot of mods, there's a thread, IIRC in this forum, talking about what game files to backup to make a new install go faster. I forget the name of the thread itself, unfortunately, but it can be found via the forum's search function.

 

I noticed you said you installed BG2, its official patch, then ToB and then ToB's officail patch. It's in the back of my mind that you should have installed SoA, then ToB and then ToB's official patch. ISTR that the ToB patch included the patches for both SoA and ToB. I don't know if that is contributing to your problem or not. I'm sure some of the modders will be be able to set me straight.

 

I just reread your post and see that your CTD occurs at the completion of character creation. I haven't had that problem. Only thing I know from reading the threads here is that something can happen if a group of mods add too many kits. AIUI, there's a hard limit to how many kits can be added to some of the classes. I have no idea what happens if that occurs. If so, you might double check that.

John, you are most completely correct. Shame on me for not spotting it.

 

When you plan to install ToB, please use the official ToB patch *after* installing ToB. As it incorporates the SoA patch, you are going to get no benefit from using that one as well.

 

I don't know if the behavior you are seeing is caused by a patch mis-match, but at the very least, you will not get anything good out of it.

 

The point about kits is well made. I suspect that the kits might be the problem. I couldn't tell you if you have a conflicting kit issue, or if you're using a mod that has proven unstable, but if you wanted, you could try installing the kits one at a time and seeing where the crash occurs.

The installation order of mods can cause CtDs. There're threads about both install order and mod compatiability on this board and others, but sorry I don't hae the links. Someone here might have it.

 

In no way am I suggesting this is causing your CtD, I just want to state that there is no need for using both Ease of Use mod and BG2 Tweaks, as the latter incorporates all the tweaks from EoU.
