Rogue Trader fluff was the best, before they added that Horus Heresy and that Chaos stuff *mutter, mutter...* and all Space Marines in the end of 40th Millennium were those creepy beakies *mutter, mutter...* Squats *mutter, mutter, mutter...*

 

 

Personally, I suspect that they could make a perfectly balanced WH40000 long time ago, but they don't because they wouldn't be able to sell next editions...

 

 

As for FR and AD&D...

2nd ed was my favourite. I hated what they have done with style of equipment (going from realism to dungeonpunk), how they dumbed down weapons and armour and made them absurd and how they retconned some things like infravision.

 

Yeah, Shattered Realms is a good description. Personally, I would prefer to see (major) characters being more liberally killed off than things like that happening to whole realms.

Also, Drizzt's friends should die in battle.
