Sunfire with Spell Revisions

I posted this at the official forums and it was suggested I cross post here. I tried using the vaunted Protection from Fire/Sunfire spell combo in my mage heavy party. Specifically, I was at the first encounter with the drow in the Underdark. I had Imoen, Aerie, and Edwin(a) all protted for fire and ready to sling Sunfires.

 

After hasting my intrepid mages rushed the drow. I tried a few reloads but never saw the damage animation for the Sunfires. So I removed the drow from the equation and just tried to Sunfire my own party a few times. No dice. The chat box would show the spell being cast but there was no spell animation and no damage being dealt to my non-protted party members. Could this be due to Spell Revisions?

Sure thing. I'm not 100% sure it is Spell Revisions myself. It's just the biggest spell modifying mod I am trying out for the first time this run through. Here's the log:

I've found the issue: SR's Protection from Fire also protects from fire-based spells (to avoid damage animation) and in this case it "clashes" with the way SR's Sunfire work (via shell system). I should be able to fix it relatively quickly.

 

Speaking of Sunfire vs. Drow, the above-mentioned "shell system" was implemented specifically to fix the "Sunfire bypass magic resistance" bug, thus don't expect this spell to be the ultimate anti-drow spell anymore. I know some players may not consider it a bug, but it was:

- vanilla's spell was set to "not bypass magic resistance"

- PnP and IWD version of this spell don't bypass magic resistance

Unfortunately a glitch in the game engine makes all self targeted spells bypass magic resistance, which is something I've not been able to entirely fix, but in the meanwhile I fixed this instance (because it's the only one where the player didn't have to actively "cheat" to achieve the exploit of bypassing magic resistance).

I didn't realize it was a bug. I think I like Spell Revisions enough so far that I can deal with that bug being fixed by another bug, lol. It is neat to have a plethora of spells available. With summons and haste I've been dealing with the drow pretty well anyways. Thanks for the reply.

You won't have to bear the bug for long because I've already fixed it, I'll update the hotfix asap. :p
