Hello. I posted some months back , intending to play through BG1 or somesuch using GemRB.

I gave up simply because I didn't have enough time back then.

Now I have decided to playthrough IWD.

I have it installed and working properly, but when I run GemRB 0.6.4 it tells me it can't find the GemRB.cfg file.

Why could this be?

Doesn't it tell you in the command line window? For me it works, the config file is in the GemRB folder, on C:

Yes, there is a file named GrmRB.cfg in the GemRB folder.

It seems I cannot upload files in my posts. I would simply upload an image showing my setup if it were possible.

Is it possible that an older version put something into the regirsty telling the program to look for a config that no longer exists?

gemrb doesn't use the registry at all. Btw, you can run gemrb from the dos prompt and use -c (/c i guess) path\to\the\config to pass it the config directly.

eg: gemrb -c C:\afasfsdfsfs.cfg

No Lynx, that does not seem to work. Perhaps the command prompt in Windows 7 has lost some functionality, I remember it working differently.

Also, the GemRB.cfg file is also described as a "sample" fiel, what's up with that?

GemRB ships only a gemrb.cfg.sample, you have to edit it and save it as gemrb.cfg

It is not just "described" as sample, it is its extension. You fell for the silly windows style of displaying file names.

This is one of the reasons, i hate window's file explorer. Total Commander ftw.

Open command prompt and type dir c:\gemrbdir . There should be GemRB.cfg file there. GemRB.cfg-sample does not count.

GemRB.cfg-noinstall.sample is mainly of interest to developers, ignore it.

I had the same issue as OP with IWD, GemRB searching for config in ./GemRB.cfg, then in ./.GemRB/GemRB.cfg and then exited. I solved it by cleaning ./cache folder, it seems that windows IWD installer (or widescreen mod) write something there, that confused GemRB. Running 0.6.4 on android with limited output in aLogcat, maybe on desktop there are less cryptic error messages. Hope it will help someone.

To clear my previous post, on desktop (linux) with alien folders in ./cache folder I have output:

[Config]: Trying to open GemRB.cfg [OK]

**contains another dir**
[Core]: Cache path ./cache doesn't exist, not a folder or contains alien files!
Press enter to continue...^C

Seems quite clear to me.

But the same situation on android make output:

I/GemRB (3257): Config: Trying to open
I/printf: (3257): GemRB.cfg
I/GemRB (3257): [OK]
I/GemRB (3257): Core:
I/GemRB (3257): Config: Trying to open
I/printf: (3257): /sdcard/app-data/iwd/.GemRB/sdl.cfg
I/GemRB (3257): [NOT FOUND]
I/GemRB (3257): Config: Trying to open
I/printf: (3257): /sdcard/app-data/iwd/.GemRB/GemRB.cfg
I/GemRB (3257): [NOT FOUND]
I/GemRB (3257): Core: Could not load config file
I/GemRB (3257): [ERROR]

After cleaning ./cache folder it runs fine.

Found troll death bug, blocking gameplay for me.

At level2 in Dragon's Eye dungeon some trolls don't want to lay down ant waiting for melf's arrow. After receiving heavy damage they go to "Almost Dead" but continueing to attack and ignores any other damage, even acid and fire untill kills all my group. I think they are trolling me ;) .

Reproduced on 1548b9091cfa116c44f2497e80562a18184bf779 and on 0.6.4.
