Drow CTD

I've had a problem with the drow in the Underdark. Whenever I trigger the creation of one of the drow parties (like the ambush on the bridge), I get a CTD, with the error message, "An assertion failed in CGameEffect.cpp at line number 16598."

 

I'm fairly confident it's SCS2. I had a megamod installation when I first encountered the bug, and on that install I had for the first time the Quest Pack's "Creature & Area Improvements" component, which adds abilities to the drow. So, I guessed it was the Quest Pack that was the culprit, uninstalled the game, and did a fresh install with all my other mods. When I tested it, to my surprise I still had the bug. So, I uninstalled again, and this time I've tested it after each mod I've installed. The bug only happened after I installed SCS2.

 

It's probably just a mod conflict (maybe with Divine Remix?), but I'd greatly appreciate any insight you have to offer. I have used an older version of the Improved Drow component in the past, so I'm doubtful that's it on its own.

If I were you , I would enable the ToBEx'es error logging and rerun into the bug and see what it prints out. The said file has been previously associated with broken spells, but as the line number is totally of the scale, we need more info... I would say. It's readme says:
For more debugging information:

1. Open TobEx_ini/TobExCore.ini in a simple text editor.

2. Under the [Debug] section, set all values of 0 to 1.

3. Try to reproduce your error in-game. TobEx may sometimes reports some extra information about the error.

4. Report any errors you find on the Spellhold Studios forums. Expect to be asked to attach a .zip of your saved game folder, WeiDU.log, TobEx.log, TobExCore.ini, and TobExTweak.ini

At a guess, some earlier mod in your install has done something weird to break drow07.cre, then when "improved drow" messes with it, the file becomes unusable. Try doing a weidu change-log on that file.

 

To do this:

 

1) open a console window (type "cmd" in the start bar)

2) navigate to your BG2 directory (e.g., type "CD c:\games\bg2" - the actual command depends where your BG2 directory is located)

3) make a copy of weidu (e.g., type "copy setup-scsii.exe weidu.exe")

4) type "weidu --change-log drow07.cre"

Thanks, David. Unfortunately, neither one worked, and I'm still getting the same error messages with the ctd. I'm just going to give up at this point and do an install without Divine Remix (if I still get the bug I think my head will explode). I've enjoyed DR but I'd rather have your drow component, and really I have some RL stuff this coming week so I'm running out of time!

Erhm, you still have the of chance that DR did something irreversible to the file and it's just not showing up without SCSII... you still can try copying the <gamefolder>/divine_remix/backup/0/drow7.cre to the <gamefolder>/override/ -folder. ... or just removing the file from the override folder for good.

In case it helps anyone else, when I tried an install without DR, I still got the bug (much to my horror). I tried doing an install with DR and the SCS2 drow component, but not the "Additional Alignment Fixes" from BG2 Fixpack, and I didn't have a problem when the ambush triggers. I think it's hard to believe I'd be the first one to have problems with these two mods together, so I'm not sure what's going, but I'm just happy it's working now for me (apparently at least...).
