Guest Graion@Work
What is your d5_yaras.ini? The power of YARAS is that it is completely customizable (I'm using with the Tweaks settings pretty much). Quote Link to comment
subtledoctor
You should see it in the combat log. It would say something like "Jaheira: 8 damage (4 resisted)" or something like that. What difficulty are you playing on? Gibberlings have S1-8.itm which does 1d8 slashing damage... if you play on a difficulty level that increases enemy damage, they could do 12 damage of which 4 (30%) would be blocked. Or it could be a crit. Gibberlings' thac0 is 20, so depending on Jaheira's stats they might need a 16/17/18 to hit her in splint mail... which means something like a quarter of all hits will be criticals. Finally, note that, IIRC, damage resistance always rounds down. When we are talking about percentile resistance agaisnt attacks doing less than 10 damage, this means big swings in resistance number might have no visible effect in the game. If the Gibberling hits for 5 damage, than any DR from 20% to 39% will block a whopping 1 point of that. So not much difference between chain mail and full plate, in that instance. (This is why I don't like mods like IR which has damage resistance ranging from like 10% to 20%... there's just not much difference between those values.) 5 damage, knocked down to 4, then doubled for crit... makes 8 damage. So, hard to say. Could be lot of things. While I haven't specifically tested it recently, I've seen no indication that DR isn't functioning - I know in my recent BG2 game I saw LOT of "(x damage resisted)" messages. Quote Link to comment
Chitown Willie
Thanks Subtledoctor. Playing on "Hardcore" w/ SCS, so: HARDCORE: Enemies now use all of their powers as effectively as they can; a small number receive a boost to hit points. Some enemy numbers are increased. Spellcasters more aggressively cast spells in advance. In the later game, some of the most powerful spellcasters begin to use High-Level Abilities. Is Damage Resistance supposed to work *all* the time - or randomly some of the time? Look how Karlat resists some of the time: Edited April 25, 2022 by Chitown Willie Quote Link to comment
subtledoctor
See my point above about rounding. From your numbers above I presume Karlat has 22 to 24% DR. 14 damage x 0.22 to 0.24 = 3.08 to 3.36 damage blocked. Rounds down to 3, leaving 11 damage. 4 damage x 0.22 to 0.24 = 0.88 to 0.96 damage blocked. Rounds down to 0, leaving 4 damage. DR matters a lot more in BG2 and late-game play where damage numbers jump a lot higher, so the DR percentages can have more fine-grained effect. jmerry
Another thing to watch for - melee attacks get +4 damage if the defender doesn't have a melee weapon equipped. 7 base damage, plus 4 because she's wielding a sling or something, is 11. 30% resistance is 3.3 resisted, which rounds down to 3, for 8 damage taken. It's also a lot easier for the gibberling to hit her in that case, with the +4 to hit in that situation. Quote Link to comment
