  1. I finally got something running, Kali Linux and it looks at least close to what I need for this WSL
  2. I'm trying to figure out how to get this WSL to run properly on Win10. I've done a bunch of steps but can't seem to get the bash shell running
  3. No errors, no results either. Looks like this in the base folder and the temp subfolder I created: G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2>weidu --biff-get "*.bcs" [weidu] WeiDU version 24600 [.\CHITIN.KEY] 475 BIFFs, 80668 resources [.\dialog.tlk] 247282 string entries No matches for: *.bcs
  4. No matches, same as I got from the base game folder. I've turned on Windows Subsystem for Linux if that's what you meant before (although I need to reboot for it to work), this is all a bit above the level of what I've done before
  5. So I'm running weidu from 10pp/temp/baf in cmd prompt, I'm getting repeated messages about files not found in chitin.key . I feel like I'm doing this wrong
  6. So there's good news and bad news. The good news is I was a bit of an idiot and forgot to set the path to gemrb in my bg2 folder which meant I could install all the other gemrb specific mods which I've now tested and appear to work sufficiently well for me to be happy. The bad news is 10pp is still running into the same error when it doesn't run out of memory. I think that's a good reason to try the manual way if you still want to help. I don't know if these are issues with my installation or just integration with gemrb but I noticed a few odd things while testing. I can drag menus in directions they aren't supposed to go, spells didn't appear to complete correctly (lacking icons, spellcasting animation on loop but the effects seemed to work), I didn't appear to take damage in combat despite seeing multiple hits land according to the readout, I saw my character go over the max hp a number of times and the paperdoll was being a bit weird (s/m/c didn't show one in character generation, in game it didn't show the dagger equipped in the inventory screen but did for the animated one in game)
  7. Might do, not quite there yet. I'm going to call it a night for now, shut my PC down fully and hopefully clear the lingering instances of weidu that seem to have survived two reboots that I only noticed a moment ago. I checked my version of weidu and it looks like it's right v249. Thanks again for all the help, I'll give it another go tomorrow hopefully with all my system resources available
  8. No joy, installation was successful (still a few issues but less than last time, I think I'll make notes next time to track the issues) but it still hit the memory leak problem when running setup-10pp.exe. Something stood out to me this time though, the weidu window logged lots of this message "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." And they coincide with the debug for these messages: [./override/#V7000.BCS] loaded, 2453 bytes [./override/#VAR11.BCS] loaded, 503 bytes [./override/#VAR12.BCS] loaded, 503 bytes [./override/#VAR13.BCS] loaded, 503 bytes [./override/#VAR20.BCS] loaded, 6826 bytes [./override/#VAR21.BCS] loaded, 3607 bytes [./override/#VAR22.BCS] loaded, 3193 bytes [./override/#VAR23.BCS] loaded, 9122 bytes [./override/TRIGGER.IDS] loaded, 9598 bytes [./override/ACTION.IDS] loaded, 15325 bytes [./override/DIR.IDS] loaded, 109 bytes [./override/OBJECT.IDS] loaded, 1844 bytes [./override/SPELL.IDS] loaded, 20913 bytes BIFF may be in hard-drive CD-path [G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\data\\DATA\DEFAULT.BIF] BIFF may be in hard-drive CD-path [G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\data\\DATA\DEFAULT.BIF] BIFF may be in hard-drive CD-path [G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\data\\DATA\DEFAULT.BIF] BIFF may be in hard-drive CD-path [G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\data\\DATA\DEFAULT.BIF] BIFF may be in hard-drive CD-path [G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\data\\DATA\DEFAULT.BIF] BIFF may be in hard-drive CD-path [G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\data\\DATA\DEFAULT.BIF] BIFF may be in hard-drive CD-path [G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\DATA\DEFAULT.BIF] [G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\DATA\DEFAULT.BIF] 5847739 bytes, 444 files, 0 tilesets [./override/EA.IDS] loaded, 244 bytes Copied [#VAR23.BCS] to [10pp/temp/baf/#VAR23.BCS] (NO BACKUP MADE!) [./override/#VCARIEM.BCS] loaded, 635 bytes What's interesting though is the instances of weidu showing up on task manager also appear each time these messages were generated. I really don't know what to make of it, could my version of weidu be out of date? I thought I had the latest but maybe I followed the wrong link. Or is this something else entirely?
  9. Doing a full install from scratch to try to clear up potential corruption, I'm making a few changes to what goes in (mostly removing). It wasn't the most successful install I've ever done anyway, I'd like to try to clean it up
  10. As I said Weidu has over 200 instances running in task manager when I'm looking, they don't manually close. When I say it's killing powershell I've got a cmd window up and Avast tells me it's stopped something, the cmd prompt changes and Pearl isn't runnning anymore
  11. Yeah Avast really hates Peal, I have to completely disable it while running the scripts as it intercepts the powershell stuff which makes me all sorts of nervous about security issues. I tried adding some exceptions but nothing seemed to work
  12. Oh, one more question. I know the EE tool that replaced BWS won't do the old BGT but is there another one that replaced it that I've missed? Would definitely help for a cleaner installation if one exists
  13. So when you said don't worry about biffing did you mean it's fine to do or try to skip it where possible? Sorry if I'm being a bit dense, I've not slept properly in months and am off work because I was making silly mistakes
  14. OK, this is new (I did see something like it once but it wasn't recorded in the debug either) Fixing scripts... Copying and patching 7805 files ... The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. utf8 "\xEA" does not map to Unicode at G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2\10pp/extender.pl line 26, <$baf_handle> chunk 1. 15. On that note I am almost ready to start a fresh install, just wanted to check whether removing all BIFF mods is a good idea or not. I spotted Generalized Biffing in the folder and found BWS does some as well. It claims the game will run smoother with it but it was written a long time ago when computers were a lot less beefy
  16. Nevermind, figured it out, there were a few .tp2 files that had .dlt added to the end for some reason, removing that got it working. This is the result: G:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Baldurs Gate 2>weidu --change-log path\to\aminota.bcs [weidu] WeiDU version 24600 [.\CHITIN.KEY] 444 BIFFs, 77761 resources [.\dialog.tlk] 212003 string entries Mods affecting PATH\TO\AMINOTA.BCS:
  17. [weidu] WeiDU version 24600 [.\CHITIN.KEY] 444 BIFFs, 77761 resources [.\dialog.tlk] 212003 string entries FATAL ERROR: Sys_error("SETUP-IWDITEMPACK.TP2: No such file or directory") Does this mean anything to you? That's what I got when running that line in cmd in the BG2 folder. Also it was RoT not NeJ, I corrected it but you probably need to refresh the page to see that. I couldn't see any obvious places in RoT's directory for a similar named file or biff, there's a large folder of BAFs but nothing stood out there either Unsurprisingly it didn't like uninstalling that component. I've backed up the entire game folder and might try a fresh install without BIFFING, I'm aware trying so many mods at once is part of the problem here but I might be able to help you to get a better idea of what works and what doesn't if I can get past the installation
  18. Turns out I was looking at the .baf not .bcs before, that's the only file that I could find with the search query "aminota"
  19. That might be it, I had to manually install some of the mods because BWS is out of date and I can't find the versions it wants of those files. I selected RoT to BIFF not knowing what that meant and assuming it was necessary. I'm attempting to uninstall that component now and see what changes (assuming it still can) *edit RoT not NEJ
  20. Forgot to mention I had an issue with it running out of memory a few times, after closing some applications it was able to run but it looked like it had a memory leak. It managed to get to nearly 5GB of RAM at one point with hundreds of instances of Weimer Dialogue Utilities showing up in task manager. Also after closing I had to manually end task to free back up that RAM as they didn't close
  21. It isn't lying, that file has nothing in it 0kb according to windows, no text in notepad++ and nothing in nearinfiniity. That's from the temp folder in 10pp, I can't find it anywhere else via searching. I've tried to attach it a few times now but I'm guessing it won't because it's empty. Could this have anything to do with the antivirus stopping it at some point in the process? Would deleting it or the whole temp folder potentially resolve it?
  22. So I've been trying to install a mega mod install of BGT (using the last version of BWP installer) that's compatible with GemRB and 10pp. Three times now I've achieved the first but failed at the second, my antivirus is definitely causing issues but after disabling it during the process I was able to get this (attached screenshot) suggesting extender.pl lines 26 and 27 are important but it didn't show up on the debug. Any insight would be appreciated, I'm getting better at reading the debugs and logs but I'm still pretty clueless. SETUP-10PP.DEBUG
