Area Specific Crashes

Recommended Posts

I have recently started using the fixpack and have begun encountering area that simply crash every time I try to load them.

The first such crash occured in the main level of the D'arnise Hold after I opened the drawbridge.

The second such area specific crash occured at the temple district somewhat far into chapter two.

I believe there was a 3rd area with this same problem, but I don't remember for sure.

At first, I thought it was the Darkest Day which was responsible for these crashes and uninstalled it. Unable to get completely rid of TDD, I uninstalled BG2 and started over.

Then, in this new game, I had the same problem occur when I tried to enter the copper coronet. I began to suspect that fixpack was responsible for these problems and uninstalled it. I was then able to enter the copper coronet, thus confirming my suspicions.

I can tell you that I have certain elements of unfinished business and questpack installed (I also had TDD installed during the first few issues). I had been using these UB and QP elements for a long time with no problem in any of my games.

Thus I have to conclude fixpack is causing these errors. Before anyone asks, yes I installed fixpack before all other mods. I can't say for sure that the conflicts are occuring because of other mods or not. But I can confirm the place and time of said conflicts.

All that said, is it possible I can get the script and dialog fixes for Glacias? I mean just the fixes for Glacias at D'arnise keep. I would really like that element and hope there is a way to retain it without retaining all the other problems with fixpack.

Thanx

Long time no see, Ayce :).

1. Post the contents of your WeiDU.log file.

2. Make sure there's a "Logging On=1" entry under Program Options in your baldur.ini file. Then reproduce the crash(es) and post the contents of your baldur.err file.

Greeting Miloch, thanx for replying.................................

Before I post the info you asked for, let me also report that now I have a crash at Trademeet, the crashes began as soon as I entereed Umar Hills. Once I entered that area, I couldn't reload any previous games from Trademeet. Oddly enough, I was able to load a game in the Druid Grove, but it crashed when I tried to enter the challenge cave with Faldorn.

Also take note, that this was after uninstalling BG2 fixpack. I have since discovered some of the fixpack files are still in my override folder, so fixpack is not doing a thorough job of uninstalling all files.

Anyway, here is the file info you asked for, thanx again.......................

I'm sure that is not the same set of components I selected, it seems BG2 fixpack did some creative editing when I uninstalled?

Examples, I did not select creature improvements from questpack, nor did I select item restorations, anomen's portrait or minor dialog fixes.

That can't really happen. Also any files installed by WeiDU should be removed on uninstall, if you uninstalled correctly. The only thing it doesn't really uninstall are strings added to dialog.tlk.

Are you using a save game from before you uninstalled some mods or something? That could explain it - you should always start a new game after installing or uninstalling any significant mods.

If I were you, I'd just do a fresh, full install, patch it, install the fixpack, whatever mods you want, start a new game. The fixpack shouldn't be causing area crashes like that (unless you didn't start a new game).

This may be related to Quest Pack bug that causes incorrect reporting of installed components. If you apply the BWP Fixpack before installing the mod, you shouldn't encounter this problem.

Also take note, that this was after uninstalling BG2 fixpack. I have since discovered some of the fixpack files are still in my override folder, so fixpack is not doing a thorough job of uninstalling all files.

I haven't heard of this happening before. In any case, this would be a glitch in WeiDU and isn't something Fixpack has any control over. If you can replicate this behaviour, you should report it to the WeiDU forum at PPG.

groan............................

Well.......................

1. I started a fresh new game and still have another crash issue with the copper coronet...................................

2. I'm sure I didn't select "all creature and area improvements" from the questpack and it seems to install them anyways. I just re-installed questpack and it installed "all creature and area improvements" again.........

3. UBv18 did something wierd when I tried to reinstall it well, I went back to v17 and it seemed to be working just fine until this crash issue....................

I think it's safe to say there are some Weidu issues occuring, doesn't help my game thoug.......................

BTW, here is my latest baldur.log entry, it seems to have more information than the last, maybe this will shed some light on something?

Baldur.log doesn't tell us much - it's baldur.err we need in the case of crashes. Also, did you use the BWP Fixpack version of Quest Pack like Mike1072 said?

1. Whoops, see below for latest baldur.err info.

2. Actually, my fresh restart did not include fixpack, just certain UB and Questpack items. Btw, where do I find this bwp version, I didn't see it on PPG. Maybe I missed it.

Anyway, here is baldur.err info.

The BWP Fixpack is on SHS. All those errors seem to indicate an item issue, like something that's present in your saved game that isn't present in your install (because you removed a mod or something). At least, that's what I'm guessing.

If you're still getting crashes in the Coronet with a *new* install and new game, try doing a weidu --change-log ar0406.are from the command prompt in your game folder (see the SHS megamod FAQ for more info on that). Then also maybe look at the area with an editor (NI or DLTCEP) and see if there are any funky mod-added items in containers. From a different area, CLUA them in and see if any crash.

Ok, first of all, you lost me there. weidu change-log? Wouldn't know where to begin. I went to spellhold and seached "megamod" and didn't find anything about that, not that I really know what I'm looking for. Sorry, I'd need more direction with that.

I have found that questpack keeps reporting "all creature & area improvements" as installed. I try to run the set up again and tell it to uninstall that component, it seems to uninstall it, then weidu.log reports it as installed again. I've never encountered this problem before. I tried to completley uninstall questpack and start over, same result, I said not to install "creature & area improvements" and it does anyway (at least it reports that component as installed).

Sorry, so long to reply to your last post, but my comp was down, then I got sick, I'm just now getting back into things. Thanx

This may be related to Quest Pack bug that causes incorrect reporting of installed components. If you apply the BWP Fixpack before installing the mod, you shouldn't encounter this problem.

Get the fixpack here.

Ok, first of all, you lost me there. weidu change-log? Wouldn't know where to begin. I went to spellhold and seached "megamod" and didn't find anything about that, not that I really know what I'm looking for. Sorry, I'd need more direction with that.
The megamod FAQ is here, in the megamod forum. It's good to learn how to change-log. It's easy and you can find out with reasonable certainty which mod(s) messed with which resources.

So, been doing more work on the druid spell mod?

Yes, I saw this before. At the time, I was trying to avoid all the headache of uninstall/reinstall. Since then, I have uninstall/reinstall twice (the first time without BWF, the second time with BWF) with the same result, a crash at ar0406 (the coppoer coronet). The BWF install did fix the erroneous reporting of installed components though.

All that said, it's still a mystery why this problem started at all, I have had 2 or 3 playthroughs with questpack installed without this problem.

It's also a mystery as to why all the bizarre Weidu behavior I've been experiencing lately (fixpack not uninstalling completely, uninstalling fixpack affecting UB & questpack, etc.).

Most importantly, I still have the crash issue with the Copper Coronet, which I now believe is not a fixpack issue. I have some suspicions, see below..............
