Not a showstopper, but irritating: in the first dungeon, when I return to the djinni after finding the matching flask, I get the original "I will give you a weapon if you bring me the flask" dialogue again, with no option to hand over the flask. After the conversation is complete, I can't reinitiate it by activating the table holding his lamp, as I could when I first visited. I verified that I have the flask in the primary character's inventory.

This may be related to the fact that every time I enter the djinni's area, the entire zone seems to be reset: all of the mephits respawn, as does the Summon Air Elemental scroll in the chest to the left.

Playing with GemRB 0.6.4.

Well, it happens reproducibly for me. I built from git and played through from a save before I first spoke to Malaaq, and observed exactly the same behavior. I also tried manipulating the TalkedToDjinni and HelpDjinni globals but was unable to get anything but the default conversation tree from IDJINNI.DLG. I definitely do have item 'misc4d' (shows up normally in Player1's inventory) when I go back.

When I first approach the Djinni's platform I get the following string of messages on the console:

[ResourceManager]: Searching for IDJINNI.dlg...[chitin.key]

Displaying string on: malaaq

[ResourceManager]: Searching for mdji.2da...[chitin.key]

[2DAImporter]: Bad signature!

[Actor]: TODO:Cannot determine 2DA rowcount for index: 60

When I first enter the area, I trigger the conversation with Malaaq when I'm about halfway up the stairs to his table, although he doesn't materialize until I activate the table (which reinitiates the conversation.) When I return to his room after obtaining the flask from the dryad, the conversation initiates (again without materializing Malaaq anywhere) at the same point and the table is still a usable object, but nothing happens when I stand near the table and activate it (if I'm far enough away I can get the 'not close enough to use this object' message.)

I'm running from git with head

commit a2ec7ab64d7789e321b2298d08406158ad88204b

; I had exactly the same behavior with the Ubuntu package for 0.6.4 (the only other version I've tried.) I'm using the GOG.com datafiles, with no patches or hacks installed.
