List: Meaningful creature types

Recommended Posts

Lots of creatures have races and classes that aren't among those a player can take. These generally don't have any special properties associated with them ... unless something else references that type.

The following are lists of all creature races and classes, outside the standard player options, that get referenced by any spell or item effect in the standard game. Plus the races that a PC ranger can take as favored enemies.

BGEE (patch 2.6):

Just a useful reference here: changing a creature to one of these types, or away from one of these types, may affect gameplay.

Does anyone know why there are these seemingly redundant entries in RACE.ids?

  • 132 SHADOW
  • 133 SPECTRE
  • 134 WRAITH
  • 175 SPECTRAL_UNDEAD

and CLASS.ids?

  • 170 SHADOW
  • 171 SPECTRE
  • 172 WRAITH
  • 175 SPECTRAL_UNDEAD

Aren't all of the above spectral undead? Of course they need unique races to distinguish them in the instances that they also have a character class, like for effective spellcasting levels, but I don't see the purpose of the 175 entry.

The IWDEE connection sounds right; the resources that reference SPECTRAL_UNDEAD are Shaman spells. Convert the class from one game to the other, and that comes in. You need the differentiated races to reference BG-series spectral undead, and the lumped race to reference IWD spectral undead. No harm in putting them all in so everything but the string references can be the same.

And speaking of IWDEE ... I don't have that game myself. If anyone wants to go through and compile its list, I'll gladly edit it into the first post. Compiling the list just requires a decent understanding of NI's advanced search and some time.
