Can't hit with fists while enemies unconscious

I've always wondered if this is a bug or not. Unless you're a monk you cannot attack an enemy with your fists if they are unconscious. Haven't seen it documented in any game manuals either.

Not really a bug, unless you are a monk you can't kill with your fists--the damage you can do has already been done.

I believe it was put in as a way a character could subdue an opponent without killing them. This is a feature in PnP, and I believe there was a bar in Beregost in BG1, where you weren't allowed to carry weapons, but a barroom brawl using fists was possible without making the entire town agro on you.
