  1. Sorry folks - more .tra changes. The bad news - I can't do much about it. The good news, the public v15 about to ship has a lockdown on .tra changes except for spelling from now until eternity. So you can count v15 as a completed set of .tras. Any further coding changes necessitating adding or moving dialogue will be resolved by either removing the content in question or coding around it using small independent files as mini-patches. Immortality, if you want to, you can contact me privately, and we can set up an online meeting this summer (or a series of emails) to assist in salvaging all your hard work so far. Most of the changes we made were simple movement from one file to another, and we should be able to keep what you have done. Others involve finding any .tra strings that are journal entries and moving them from @0 = ~My text goes here~ to @0 = ~My Text My text goes here~ so that journal titles show up correctly.

  3. Trep seems to do the job, and it matches the ClanDLAN tool (though you will want to investigate which one will feel more comfortable to you). I appreciate any community work on this, because it is a bit of a challenge, in terms of sheer volume. 3.54 MB in 126 .tra files uncompressed (on a 260GB FAT system drive, it works out to 6.03 MB).
  4. Unfortunately, due to the way the project has been built over time, there is no good way to do this I am afraid that the strings are liberally mixed together. The good news is that there are not likely to be big .tra changes ever again, and there are ways of handling this issue. One is to use the Untraify feature of WeiDU, and be able to see untraified .d files, so you can see who is talking. Another is more painful, opening code vs tra file and jumping back and forth - and I believe the third uis to look at the .tra tools that ClanDLAN has set up. Which reminds me, I need to update this thread. Not tonight, i am afraid...

I'll take a look - the changes with setup.tra and the _tmp.tra series, I will have to do an explination for you (and it will be easier if those simply get a whole new translation) I will take a look and see when i can get you a breakdown of changes, but for may of them, look for the "X#" and "P#" versions of older files - ADDIAL -> X#ADDIAL, etc.

  7. Mostly just a few typos here and there. Don't worry about it, I suspect it'll be good enough as it is - four new lovetalks is all you really need to translate. Kulyok's analysis confirmed - manual line by line check shows mostly spelling, grammar, and such - nothing that fundamentally changes the meanings of lines for translations until you get to the new lines.

  9. EXCEPTIONS: x#xanlt.tra comes up as every single line different in WinMerge. There are a number of lines that appear almost identical, but scattered throughout there are some changes (and there are additons at the end - the original file ended at @1431, the new one ends at @1525). The person assigned to this file will need to do a manual file comparison themselves, and to be safe probably needs to start over.

  14. Folks, I am so sorry, but I think it is safest to wait until after the release to get rlling on stuff. I know, with the thousands (more than that, in fact, but II don't have a most recent count) of lines added, there will not be very many changes at this point, but there will be changes and some of them may be structural. I will keep this stuff updated for the two communities that are already in progress, because they have alreadyput a good deal of work into translating these, but their job is going to be relatively tough. The existing .tras they have are going to need to be compared line by line versus the new ones, some strings moved, and some strings completely removed as they have been integrated into other .tras. I promise we continue to work within our philosophy, which is to distribute small, individual matching D/TRA pairs, for ease of parceling out to multiple translators in your communities, and ease of our bugfixing, but my suggestion is to wait until I send out the big "final". I will post a separate .tra package up here(as many people can't access an .exe distribution at work), and perhaps even open up a wikki project area for folks to discuss and assist in this process, but it looks like the safest way to make sure your community does not have headaches in deealing with this is to wait until we get the final. I am really sorry about this, because I know folks want to get these things started. I have attempted to change as little as possible in the .tra files by adding to the ends of them rather than rebuilding them and by keeping as much new content segregated from old as I can.

And I know that putting the whole thng into one setup is good, but perhaps splitting it will encourage a BG1 er to do the same thing, so that things written with the rcorrect coding structure (no OR(#), etc) can also be tucked onto BG1 seamlessly).   22. Sorry folks - Real Life has hit, and I am still struggling with integrating Tiax's Quest for testing and getting Dynaheir's Quest to work on a SoA based install without MakeGlobal(). Tiax took 6 hours to troubleshoot enough to install, and still has notbeen tested. In order not to inflict my horrific garbage on other people, especially those folks on a large BP/BGT install, please go ahead and use the file currently available on the internal site. I will try this weekend and Monday to get Tiax working and tested, and Drizzt behaving correctly - I have an 8 hour work session dedicated to it Monday, so I am hopeful that the version will be up then.
  23. (Sorry, Jastey and Kulyok and the two other PM folks currently waiting for the update promised today - I tried but it is not ready today...) There should be a new internal update available tomorrow afternoon. It will be dated 081007, and contains some new things to have fun with: fixes some glitches on a SoA based Tutu install, cleanup of some code, fixes to Ajantis dialogues and to Xan'rs timer install text, and if we are lucky a testable version of Tiax's Quest - the last scheduled quest to add to BG1 NPC. This testable version will need some folks to really hit Tiax and Dynaheir's stuff to see if there is anything that doesn't work, as I have not had time to test it, so caveat emptor. I hope to playtest myself and tweak the two quests as soon as possible.
  24. If you are a translation community who has already begun working on BG1 NPC files, as Clan DLAN has for Spanish translations, please contact me for information on the changes. The basic list of changes from the packages already in existence are summarized here, but please contact me for information on the files you are missing. Don't worry; of all of the files listed here as changes, only one of Xan's files has any major changes and additional tra numbers. The vast majority of the changes logged are minor typographical, punctuation, or spelling errors You may also be able to use some of the work (but only a little ) done on the BG1NPC.tra file - there have been soeme significant changes there. We are anticipating one additional .tra file within the next few weeks, and perhaps the addition of a small set of lines to one of Ajantis' files. The master list of changes is as follows: linked for html display here. I am currently creating a line-by-line comparison of changes (again, there are no significant changes in any but Xan's Lovetalk files at the current time) and will distribute that to the folks who have emailed me - if you have reqquested these through Domi, and have been told "just a few more days" for several months now, don't worry - PM me again to make sure, and i have almost completely final .tras available. A note to the willing translation community - several of these individual .tra files number into the thousands. You may want to tackle this sort of thing with an entire community, rather than try to go it alone Please contact Domi or cmorgan if you have any questions or would like to participate in translating the final version of The BG1 NPC Project into your home language!
