Why is it lagging now?

You might have an overstuffed override. You've got just about every mod that can be installed in place.

Unfortunately, I don't know what to suggest. I had this problem myself when I installed every single NPC mod in existance to test Crossmod Banter Pack, and I solved it by biffing my override folder, but that's a drastic measure, since no mods can be added after biffing.

Things you can try: get rid of bottomless containers, don't use avatar morphing script, don't keep huge stacks of items, clear your cash, turn off static animations, character movement sounds, other graphical things. Maybe someone else has suggestions?

Thanks! It actually helped. :) I would like more suggestions still, things can always be better :)

How big is your override folder? If it is more than 500 megs I think you should biff it. You should back it up before biffing it and biffing it might cause problems (But if your game is unplayable then I would say it is worth the risk.)

Good Luck!

My override is just below 500 megs now, so I restrain myself from biffing it.

@berelinde: I understood you very well :)

I never biff my override any more. The major culprits in inflating the folder are .wav files associated with NPC soundsets. They take up ridiculous amounts of space. Try just biffing the .wav files with a small batch file for that purpose. That always clears up my override-related stutter issues.

:)

// Recently Uninstalled: ~SETUP-SCS.TP2~ #0 #130 // Better calls for help

I did some thorough testing adding one part of a mod at a time, testing forth and back. Now after some days of testing I've found, that (on my laptop with Xp 1,6 GHz, 1 GB DDR2) the "better calls for help" and "smarter mages" causes some heavy disturbances (read: lagging) on maps like the map where Gorion gets killed and the Nashkel one and the map at the Nashkel mines (I haven't tested the game further). When having one of these components at a time my chars only jumps mildly ie. half a screen, but the synergi of both are capable of making my game crash at worst an freeze for some seconds at best.

Hmm my override folder has the size of 75MB and the disk-use (Whatever that means, but hope you get my point) of 411 MB.

I can't say I want to miss any of these components, and I don't think you'll be making a lite version of these components. What should I do? I must admit, that I haven't tried without the degreenifier mod, but the difference in performance with contra without SCS installed is too big to blame the degreenifier - methinks. Which of these components is the better? Many maps don't give troubles, should/could I install - uninstall these two components without problems when walking from one screen to another? Would it help buying a laptop with ie 2 GB of Ram? I'm desperate...

BTW I don't have large stacks, avatar morphing, and walking sounds on.

I had initially thought that it was large bodies of water that caused map slowdown (i.e. I get massive lag on Nashkel, the Undercity, the coast map with the shipwreck, and the Cloakwood Forest spider section). Maybe it's degreenifier, maybe not...I haven't played extensively without it to see.

:) I'm so sorry, it's so embarrasing; the failure wasn't due to any mod, but to the fact, that I had altered the frame rate in the config to 60. I'm so sorry for the commotion I caused. Now I really can enjoy playing again. Sorry again.

Update: It runs ok on a framerate of 45

The only slowdowns I noticed on my games are those that would sometimes occur when I left-click on a map area which is close to the fog-of-war.

It's not always so of course else it'd be lagging all the time I am exploring a new map. I have no idea what it depends on. It might as well not depend on SCS or SCS II at all.
