[BG2EE] Help figuring out what causes game crash.

Hi,

I am currently trying to kill Lavok in the Planar Sphere where I run into a bit of a problem. Everytime Lavok casts a certain spell, there is no animation, no verbal sound and when he finishes casting, the game crashes before it writes out what spell it was that he cast.

I have pretty much done everything that can be done up until you depart for Spellhold, except killing Lavok, Kangaxx, Shadow/Red Dragon and some other minor encounters. So far not a single crash.

Also, the only other oddity I have run into so far is that the Adventurers Mart is keeping a 0gp item in stock, and that the Berserk of Minsc shows the description for the spell Barkskin, though the Berserk works as intended.

I have no idea if I can do anything the the dump-files the game creates, or if they contain any useful information.

My Weidulog is as follows:

You can do something with the .dmp files but you need to zip them all up with the .exe and .pdb files of the game that crashed and post them to forum.baldursgate.com. But since this may be a mod issue, I don't know if they can help.

The other thing you can do is look at Lavok's scripts to see which spell he might've been casting. Look at his CRE files (with NI or DLTCEP) and see what scripts are assigned. Might vary based on your mods. Then look at the scripts, e.g. lavok01.bcs and see if you can find the spell he does before it crashes. The next one in the script is probably the culprit.

Ok, so I figured out 3 script blocks that 100% crashed the game. 509, 513 and 515. I assume they each represent a full IF-END-block? Is there any easy way to find out what script block, say, 509 would be, without doing find next over and over and fail the counting?

Ok, so I figured out 3 script blocks that 100% crashed the game. 509, 513 and 515. I assume they each represent a full IF-THEN--END-block? Is there any easy way to find out what script block, say, 509 would be, without doing find next over and over and fail the counting?
Well yes, if you have the modified game file(.bcs), then you can open it with Near Infinity -w1.1.0 or later or latest DLTCEP, you can search for the number(509 or 513 ... ) and find out what they are, and print them out... or you can actually extract the file as a .baf file with the tools, edit the .baf file with Notepad and remove the other IF-THEN-END blocks and copy/paste the ones that contain the blocks to a post here, so we can look at it, and possibly identify problems.

Not sure I follow... when I open the script with DLTCEP, there are only a ton of IF-END-blocks all over. There is nothing that specifies a block by number, and it's not the lines, because they do not match. So searching for those numbers yield nothing.

Ok, so I found out what script-blocks are crashing, and they are similar to this one, just a different target thus the evaluations are a tad different depending on who he targets, but the end result in the same. Crash.

Which explains why I have never seen him use gate before a crash.

In the spell ability part, it holds three references to "Use EFF file (177)" which in turn references one each of the possible summons from a gate, for Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic alignment in the same manner the standard level 9 Gate-spell works.

Could this be a conflict with the aTweaks-part called Even More Refined Fiend Summoning which forces you to pick the creature you want summoned, rather than the game picking for you? As per: http://avenger981.gi...me_atweaks.html

I'll try un-installing that component to see what happens.

Edit: Still crashing. Only way I've found to get around the Gate-thing is when he starts casting a gate, use invis potion on the one he was targetting, which seems like a kind of stupid abuse. Shouldn't he target himself with the gate?

Edit2: I decided to try out the Tolgerias encounter aswell in the Sphere, and he also uses the dw#basum.spl which causes a crash.

Edit3: Right, the DW#BASUM.EFF specifies Type: Summon Creature; Resource: CREFILE_.CRE, though clicking on that line it says None. I assume that is meant to point to the Balor which is the DW#BASUM.CRE. Now the real question. What could have caused it to become like this? Is there anyway to see where the DW#BASUM-files come from and what has touched them?

Edit4: No luck trying anything "creative". Also, giving the DW#BASUM-spell to one of my casters via EEKeeper just makes them go through the casting animation, followed by no effect.

So I did another test. I took a regular clean BG2-install(not EE) and installed the stuff in the exact same order, and with the exact same components(barring a few that were handled/refused for EE in particular) and I checked the spell-files after I got to the part where I installed SCS-components, in that state all the spells did indeed either have a creature or another spell assigned to them, which were only referenced as CREATURE_.CRE in the BG2EE-installation(with aTweaks). Then I started installing aTweaks, and when I got to the PnP Fiends component, the installation fails when chosing the second option(which in the readme says it should only alter SCS-fiends, though references as SCSII(which doesn't exist anymore)).

I cand send the SETUP-ATWEAKS.DEBUG-file if interested, Wisp. It says it's too large to attach here.

Edit: PnP Undead also causes error with the latest SCS, I uninstalled both components and the result was that the gating now works without a problem for enemy spellcasters. Latest SCS + PnPUndead and PnPFiends does not seem to be compatible.
