Thug Kit Idea

Troll

Recommended Posts

I have a kit idea called Thug, a thief who uses brute force rather than stealth to achieve his goals. So he has the Assassin penalty to thief skills every level and the swashbuckler no backstab multiplyer ( i can't figure out how to give him both penalties, I've tried the adding of the hexes but it won't work, so help there would be great) and he can put two proficiency slots in his thief weapons. I'd like to let him use maces, flails, hammers and axes, but I don't know how. I also toyed with the idea of giving him a whopping three proficiency slots in quarterstaffs and clubs (the blunt melee weapons of thiefdom) because they are very thuggish weapons. He has the 'drunken rage' ability, which is basically a less powerful version of barbarian rage. What do people think? Do people have ideas about it? Can anyone help with my problems? Just throw 'em all at me!

You can't give a thief kit the ability to use any weapon unless you give the same to all thieves. Now, you've talked a lot about disadvantages, but the ability to specialize (or even achieve mastery) in thief weapons is no way near enough to counterbalance what you are taking away. You're gonna have to think up a better advantage.

I cand send my version of that kit.

THUG: ...

Can't be good. Only humans, half-elf, dwarfs or half-orcs.

Advantages:

+1 to thaco and damage

+1 to damage per 5 levels

+1 to hp per level

1% immune to damage per level

- Once per day per 8 levels he can use 'Brutal fighting', which give him +2 to strenght, 10% immune to normal damages (slashing etc), bonus 20% hp. And any hit got 20% chance to stun enemy for 2 rounds (throw vs. death without mod). Brutal fithing duration is 5 rounds.

Disadvantages:

Only 15% thief skills

-2 to charisma

-2 to reputation at starts

I'd suggest dropping the penalty to backstab, since I imagine a thug would be a bit of a specialist in jumping people from behind. If you can't actually manage to allow access to the additional weapons (maybe there is some tricky way to do it, but I don't know how it could be achieved) then just allowing specialisation in thief weapons would be fine in my opinion.

And to fill up on that reduction to theif penalties, the drunken rage could be a complete copy of the barbarianor berserker rage ability. The immunities that provides are pretty spectacular, and it would fit the concept ncely.

Thanks alot, all this has been really helpful. Here's what I've finally got.

THUG: The Thug is a thief who uses brute strength and intimidation rather stealth and cunning, a class of brawlers, half-wits, henchmen and drunks.

Advantages:

- Gains +1 to hit and +1 to damage with all weapons.

- The Thug may give himself over to a drunken rage once every five levels (starting at level one with one use). Once drunk, the Thug gains a +2 bonus to strength and constitution, but recieves a -2 penalty to armour class. The frenzy also hastes the Thug and protects him from holding, stunning, mind-altering and fear spells.

- May place two proficiency slots in any weapon a thief can use.

Disadvantages:

- Only recieves 15% thieving skill points per level.

- -2 penalty to Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma.

- Must have a Chaotic alignment.

- Only available to Humans, Half-orcs and Dwarves.

How's that?

Alignment and racial restrictions tend not to be listed as disadvantages for classes or kits. The rest of it looks ok, though I'd suggest any non-Lawful alignment rather than just any Chaotic.

You can ask about that shaggie. Check in Pocketplane list, International mods, Polish. I don't remember his mail.

Looks good to me. Perhaps if you want to go the higher HP route as well (if it turns out to need more bonuses) you could try allowing fighter CON bonuses (er... if it can be done), which could make the CON increase from the rage even more handy.

hmmm... bonus constitution points in rage. it isn't a good idea. Increasing thief con. to more than 16 haven't got any effects. Better idea is give him +15 to hp.

And a next thing. He should got brutal fight style! Then.. worse trac0, better damages.

Your sure raising a thief's con past 16 has no effects?
