  1. Hi Angel,

Just defeated a Young Black Dragon in Mutamin's Garden and cashed in on 3500 XP + 450 gold (Aurora's and XPMod reduce numbers).

First thought was : Holy crap, that's a lotta goodies!

I know you wanted to beef up the Garden, but perhaps a little less on the reward side?

    Thoughts?

Longbows do 1d5+2; composite longbows do 1d5+2+[whatever extra damage composite bows already did].  I think it was +2, so they probably do 1d5+4.

Put another way: short bows average 3 damage per hit; longbows average 5 damage per hit; composite longbows average 7 damage per hit.

According to the Wiki for composite longbows:

"giving a bonus to damage of +2 (Baldur's Gate) or +1 in (Baldur's Gate II)"

So I'm assuming you were using the BG rule (+2).

    Also, no change to THAC0?

For those curious about what I am up to, I am currently working on new versions of MiH Item Pack, MiH Spell Pack and MiH Encounters & Quests.  This will be a massive rewrite that uses @DavidW's SFO (and in a few places SSL) library, like SCS, Wheels and aTweaks do.  Item Pack and Spell Pack are almost finished, and I'm about halfway with Encounters & Quests, the mod that will profit the most from using SFO and SSL.

    Thanks for the update.

Is the rewrite for behind-the-scenes purposes - or is it something from which the end-user will benefit?

That's the effect the gloves already have in a standard game.  "BG2 Items in BG1" does not install new items, it uses the ones already present in BGEE/BGT.  Perhaps you have another mod that upgrades them, Item Revisions maybe?

Yep - you are correct; it's Item Revisions.

    Gloves of Missile Snaring

    Equipped Abilities:

    Off-Hand THAC0: -20 penalty

    Deflect Arrows: deflects ranged weapons

    Requires: 15 Dexterity

    Usable by:

    Bard

    Thief

    Monk

Notes: I've drastically improved them while keeping the original concept (which was +2 AC vs. missile weapons). I've made them usable only by bards, monks and thieves (single class only) for balance, technical and concept reasons.

    Even SixOfSpades agrees:

" Wait--so the intent is to be a permanent Protection from Missiles, available only to Monks and those using Single Weapon? The effect would be too strong, even if you could perfect the implementation--which might not be feasible. "

    Thanks for the help.

Just out of curiosity - Would you have moved the "improved" version to BG1?

  6. Hi Angel,

I just equipped Imoen with the "Gloves of Missile Snaring" (MIH-IP) and think it might be overpowered.

With just her, I can tap dance all over weaker ranged enemies (bandits/kobolds) and even special ranged encounters (e.g., Zargal/Malkax/Geltik).

Perhaps downgrade from "Protection from Missiles" to "+2 bonus from missile attacks"?

  7. "OMG people actually play this!?"

Yep - and agree with the others that I'm really enjoying your mod.

Just started a new game w/ v2 and felt the difference when i couldn't just pick off a Dread Wolf w/ ranged weapons.

Can't wait to see how your "Enhanced Xvart Village" + Big Picture's "Improved Xvart Village" stack up - Should be amazing!

I would go so far as to say that MIH + SCS is now the new "gold standard" for tactics mods.

Thank you - thank you - thank you.
